Elite roleplay: Citi Gateway

CITI GATEWAY

The Orbis station is a center of activity. Within the station a myriad of places can be found.
  • The Warrens: Where the poor plebs of the station live. It's is a breeding ground for the most unscrupulous. Keep an eye on your wallet when traversing the corridors of these areas.
  • Habitation Complex: For those workers and pilots that can afford it, this area provides closer to 1G gravity for more earth like living.
  • Commerce Divison: and Administration Where the larger corporations make their home. Station administration can be found here.
  • Industrial Complex: Where industry manufactures their various goods.
  • Entertainment: District Bars, theaters and night clubs, tattoo parlors and other establishments can be found vying for a commanders credits in exchange for a bit of fun.
  • Station Security: A high tech brig used to house law breakers until they can be tried, and or deported off station.
  • Medical Ward: Where commanders can get patched up, enhanced, or fix existing cybernetics.

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

"Ah, they're fairly common. Dizziness and nausea... Like, if you experience them more than you should, under the circumstances. Ataxia... Mean, coordination impairment. And, amnesia, for the period when the meds were active, is an extreme case and a big bloody stop sign."

I couldn't remember were there something else, so I took the pill bottle from the bedside table and used the communicator screen as a makeshift light source to read.

"Yep, that's all," and, while the communicator was still in my hand, I thought of the godsdamned news article again. "Just be sure not to read the latest GalNet crap. I swear, those gobshites should really consider hiring someone who can do more than absent-minded copy-pasing bits and pieces from lesser known media. A simple warning line could've saved lots of people from having their day friggin ruined by... You know. Stuff you don't want to remember."
09 Aug 2023, 7:42pm
“Oh.”

Eyes still closed. I didn’t need to be told more. Definitely dodn’t want to remember. Even the vague hint still made a chill go through my body.

“If I became dizzy because of the pill… wouldn’t know about it if I was. I’m always dizzy after waking up with not enough sleep.”

I took a few long, drawn-out breaths. Beginning to feel hungry, so something in my body was starting to function.

“Food sounds good. If you could …”
09 Aug 2023, 8:19pm
"Yep..." I said with a mix of disappointment, sadness and pitch black irony in my voice. "That's a crap. Everything about that is a crap."

I placed my communicator back on the bedside table after checking with Marshmallow's systems remotely: expectably, the transmission was complete already and now our researchers had some food for their minds, like, exact and precise data, not stories told by shocked people or over-exaggerated crap from the news.

"Then I hope you will get a bit more sleep in foreseeable future. I totally hate it, when I should be energetic and do things, either with mind or with body, but both of them are sleepy as shit. My sleep pattern's been disrupted, like, years ago, and it's an uphill battle to fix it. Argh. Ah, okay, stop ranting..."

I shook my head.

"I guess those vending machine bacon sandwiches are the best we can get here. Sorry, this place is kind of... Low-cost simplistic plain stuff. At least we have somewhat acceptable beds here and the toilet isn't placed in the corner right over there", I pointed at a corner near the entrance automatically, then realised Kasumi can't see me. Or can she? Maybe her eyes... operate in darkness? "Couldn't find anything else closer that fits the requirements better. Ah. Whatever. Let's get something to chomp."

Saying that, I stood up and took the stack of my clothes, then went to the bathroom to put them on there, in order not to dispel the darkness by turning the main lights on. There was still more than enough time to rest until they start knocking on the door, like, extend or leave.

I waited for Meowers to come back out of the bathroom, setting myself up on the bed properly, rather than just staying laid on my back. A thought crossed my mind, then.

‘What was I thinking sleeping in the same room as another person like this? Whatever. I guess if that woman was going to try anything I’d have known about it already.’

She returned as I finished that thought, and I took a moment to eye up her build. Slightly taller than me, certainly much heavier, and probably stronger too.

“I’ll just take those bacon sandwiches, for all they’re worth. Or one of them, anyway. If you could find one without cheese, that’d be good too, so I don’t have to go picking it apart.”

Part of me felt tempted to take a look at what the kitchen offered, but the other didn’t want to deal with cleanup, or dealing with the bother I was put through by touching anything remotely unclean, like an egg would probably be - even though I really wanted to make one, or some kind of omelet. Instead, I just went into the bathroom to take a long shower.
09 Aug 2023, 9:24pm
"Sure. Those sandwiches are the best you can get from that... apparatus, anyway", I smirked. "Mostly, it filled with flashy snacks that are cool when you're a teen, but you're going to regret putting the whole goddamn periodic table into your belly".

So, off to the corridor I go. When the machine finished whirring and humming, extracting the packages from the confines of its insides, I took a closer look. Expiration dates seemed okay, and no visible damage to airtight wraps... The packages themselves had a lookalike design, with striking yellow words over the dark blue background, and there were those... Ah, I saw those sandwiches, utterly standard fast meal, these weren't photos of them: ungodly over-postprocessed and edited in such a way that might make people think that particular sandwich is a feast worth the kings. 'Max Bacon', and a smaller text below, 'Time to get porky'. And, smaller ones, 'Norm Bacon', 'Max's younger cousin'. 'Please, dispose of the package properly, unless you're a pig'. Amusing.

With one can of mix-fruit juice and two cans of cold tea added to my purchases, I returned. Kasumi wasn't in the room: judging by the sound, she went to take a shower, so I put everything but one tea can on her bedside table and headed for kitchen, to have a smoke and a tea.
09 Aug 2023, 9:39pm
I came out of the - somewhat foggy - bathroom with a towel on my head, wrapped around my hair to absorb the moisture, to find a - smaller - bacon sandwich placed on the bedside table, along with a can of fruit juice.

Wasting no time in getting started, I peeled the sandwich out of its package, ensuring there were no undesired additions on it, then popped open the can. Both were rather quickly gone, and I still felt a slight bit of hunger, but it would only become a problem by the time it was… time, to eat again.

With food needs out of the way, I joined Meowers in the kitchen, staying clear of any smoke circulating out through an air vent.

“So …”, I started, not entirely sure what to say. “I just… wanted to… explain, I guess. That, implant, in my head, isn’t just a dumb ‘chip’ programmed to do one thing only. Like, it is kind of alive but also not? Thargoid technology is confusing. Anyway, what I’m trying to say is, it might be able to affect what’s going through my brain… not that it seems to have, so far.”

I sighed.

“I don’t really want to talk about all that stupid Thargoid nonsense or whatever all the time. I just need a break from it even for one day… as much as I can have one, when I hear them day in, day out. What do you say we go see if anyone’s around the bar or other places once we’re done here? Though I will brush my teeth before that.”
09 Aug 2023, 10:16pm
"Sure. I can guess, it's... Quite tiring," I nodded thoughtfully. Anyway, there should be breaks in heavy things; and I proceeded with more casual tone, after having a drag of vanilla smoke. "Then let me grab the sandwich and the second tea from the room, to deal with them here. You may be hell sure they'll be gone by the time you finish putting your suit on."

And, when I was about to get back to the room, and made a half of a step already, I extinguished the cigarette butt and added, changing my voice to something quieter and... deeper, maybe.

"Thank you for sharing all this with me. If a question, like, why am I being nice and whatever, bothers or ever bothered you, I can tell you everything you want to know. Way better than expecting me to ask you for something you don't want to do, in return. Like, returning the favour. No, not the case here."

I let those words hang in the air for a moment.

"Ah. Anyway. Thought, like... What kind of a person might I have been if I'd been born in a different age. Like... Two to three thousand years ago? A barbaric warrior, smashing heads at daytime, eating tonnes of meat by the campfire at evenings, and then performing some shamanic rituals at nights? Phah. Or, in the future, by the same stretch of time? What kind of mysteries may be out there, yet to be solved, in the space beyond our Galaxy? And... And you? Ah..." I giggled slightly. "Nevermind. Rhetorical. Just a random thought of a brain not fully woken up I guess."

And I went back to the room to return with a sandwich and a tea, since there was no reason to devour all that sitting on the bed anymore.
09 Aug 2023, 10:24pm
“I can’t say the question crossed my mind yet.”, I replied, then watched Meowers go off to get the second sandwich, returning a few moments later.

“Also don’t think I’ve thought about, well, what I would be if I was, I don’t know, in another universe or some weird stuff like that. Not too much, at least.”

With that said, I grabbed my suit from the other room and began to slip into it, ensuring my hood stayed outside of it. I also pulled it up then, so I wouldn’t forget about it, then went off to brush my teeth before we left.
09 Aug 2023, 10:32pm
"No worries then, let's go back to the bar," I nodded. "And feel free to ask about whatever you may want, if you think I'm holding out on you or something like that."

And, technically, I was wrong. Sandwich had been pretty much annihilated before Kasumi got her suit on, but I had some tea left in the can, because a question of having another universes around somewhere, at least a physical possibility of that, made me stop and think about it a little. Not that I couldn't finish the tea on the go anyway.

Continued to The Bar

Omni Pol, here? Didn't they have their hands full with all the jackals picking on people displaced by the Goids? Why would one of them show up to investigate a missing person. Maybe Silvia was more than just a barmaid, almost everyone here was more then they appeared to be, even Willow her self. Right now, she was worried she hadn't given the right people the details she had found, but that could be fixed when she got back to her bunk.

Once the door shut behind her, Willow let her slate go forgetting there was a little gravity out here on the habitation ring, and her slate dropped to the floor.

"Dam it Willow, just chill. Like, the badges are not on to you, calm down ok?"

Opening the little cooler in the cell sized room, Willow took out a tin of soda with more sugar than the can should be able to hold, cracked it with one hand taking some deep gulps. The cool drink soothed the rough patch on the roof of her mouth where the just-nuked-pie had done a little damage.

Picking up her slate, she checked her history. Silvia and the ninja hadn't stopped stalking her since she stupidly tried to help the now Dark-One, to shake off unwanted company. Willow had failed in trying to help, but that didn't stop the two women bombarding her with messages. Not being much of a socialiser, Willow had tried to ignore it because as far as she knew, this was how people normally got on, even if it felt weird to her. There it was, another long rambling message from .. Kasumi. OK she had a name.

Opening a new message window, Willow pause with her thumb just above the screen. What the hell was she going to say? The woman had already confessed to being some sort of experiment, like a Goid hybrid or something. Some how, she had taken offence when Willow told her that was a complication she could do with out.

It was a hard one to work out, but Willow had a passion for finding peoples lost loved ones, and bringing them home for the last time. For once, it would be nice to help find someone alive, and not have got make a coffin for them. Besides, although Silvia was a bit to loud, and an emotional wreck, she had tried to be nice to Willow, just for the sake of being nice. Kind of like Vee. Making a choice, Willow let her thumb do the talking.

So hi Kasumi, I guess

Yeah so I was like, I had nothing to do, so I went to my. You know, never mind. Anyway I was looking in to that carrier and the dude you mentioned, and like, I got something. I got a name and location form like a few hours ago. Ok, so it may not be there now, but I also got the latest details about the Queen Ann's from its last registered refit. Like, its old, and like, if I had a carrier, I'd never stop customising its lay out, but I mean, I got tech specs on it too. That can help with. Yeah I'm like writing a book here, so I'll just send you what got, ok.

It sounded like a brush off, but Willow was a bit paranoid after getting a good looming from the tall Omni Badge. She had more advice, but she the bar was out of bounds thanks to the badge, so it was back to talking thumbs.

Nar, mom and dad still have a warehouse full of parts I've collated over the years. But, if you can get me accesses to Silvia's quarters or her ship so I can gather samples, I can calibrate your sensors to find her once your close to the carrier. Like, if you got a good sensor package on your ship that is.

And hey, if you got a hack, um I mean, research probe controller, I can marry that up to the Queen Anns' last known data, and you can "Research" the hell out of the thing, and use its computer to, you know help out. If you can get a limpet to it.

I mean like, my ship is decked for that sort of thing, but I can't fly one handed.
10 Aug 2023, 1:42pm
Willow was sat on her bed with her knees under her chin. After having nothing to do for days on end, it was pretty exciting to be in on some proper action. Her thumb started started typing as soon as her pad vibrated.

So like the limpet, if you got a recon limpet controller, you can like, send one at a coms cluster on stations and stuff, and use it to hack into the computer. If you got like, a real good controller, or a hacker using the link, you can get into the carriers computer and do anything you want. Doing what I do, I sometimes have to go where I'm not supposed to be you know?

So if you have a ship engineered to cut out as heat like mine, you can drift up to any thing and they can't detect you. Like they can see you, but, well you know what I mean right?

Hey, I guess I can find out where she was staying, you know, being staff and all. And maybe there's some of her stuff if the staff room at the bar, but like, I really need her living quarters to get a collection of samples to calibrate your ship to find her. So you got a manifest scanner, or any limpet controllers on your ship
10 Aug 2023, 2:16pm
Security told Willow there was no hab registered to Silvia, so she must have slept on her ship. If Willow wanted to gather enough bio-data on Silvia to calibrate a sensor to pick her out of a crowd, she'd have to get on board, and that meant talking to the blue one.

Picking up a bag, Willow got Damran to give her clearance for the quartermaster. She had her own tools for taking gas and bio samples, but they were back on her ship 20 odd light years away. After getting everything she needed, Willow asked about the Omni Pol guy. Apparently he wasn't in the bar any more, so the asked security to escort her to the rooms behind the bar.
10 Aug 2023, 2:42pm
On her way to the bar, her slate went off again.

Oh like, they definitely know when a limpet is on, but like if you go, cool running when you launch the limpet, then back to normal, and toggle it again when the system is just about cracked, you don't build heat, and although they know some one is there, the sensors can't find you. Someone literally has to see your ship, and point at before they can do something about it. Could be real helpful to turn off their targeting or like, let you open an air lock so you can get in real quick, you know?

Like, I do it quite a lot to PF satellite, and communications stations when I'm looking for system registry data. But like, I've been sneaking up on megaships and things with my brothers and sisters since I was still playing with dolls. Its a skill you know?

Did you know bigger ships dissipate heat more efficiently than smaller ones? Like except for the D-Back and maybe Dolphin. So your ship may be big, but it's hard to detect if you keep it cool.

Anyway, I'm nearly at the bar. Security are going to let me poke around the back.
10 Aug 2023, 8:12pm
While I was at our local headquaters, I received info that our ships located in T Tauri would be slowly reassigned to the systems near Thargoid occupied ones. When I packed it, I had time for newest Galnet news.

I prefer personal way as this one should be tracked by Diaz since we all in Omni Pol good know that he is not stupid or beginner. So I headed to the bar to meet her, and hoping in presence of three women from morning.
