Elite roleplay: Citi Gateway

CITI GATEWAY

The Orbis station is a center of activity. Within the station a myriad of places can be found.
  • The Warrens: Where the poor plebs of the station live. It's is a breeding ground for the most unscrupulous. Keep an eye on your wallet when traversing the corridors of these areas.
  • Habitation Complex: For those workers and pilots that can afford it, this area provides closer to 1G gravity for more earth like living.
  • Commerce Divison: and Administration Where the larger corporations make their home. Station administration can be found here.
  • Industrial Complex: Where industry manufactures their various goods.
  • Entertainment: District Bars, theaters and night clubs, tattoo parlors and other establishments can be found vying for a commanders credits in exchange for a bit of fun.
  • Station Security: A high tech brig used to house law breakers until they can be tried, and or deported off station.
  • Medical Ward: Where commanders can get patched up, enhanced, or fix existing cybernetics.

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

"Ah, crap," I said, running all possible options in my head. "No doubt Azimuth will keep a wing or two of those folks, and they have enough firepower to cripple the carrier and drop it onto a star."

"Especially Azimuth," I stated. "Their operatives are brainwashed expendable puppets, although those puppets have both skills and tools. With that approach, they may as well kamikaze the godsdamned carrier after depleting their ammo. We, kind of, want to get rid of that thing too, but only surviving the fireworks party."

"And they will show up, I assume. Whoever at Azimuth planned that thing, knew what kind of... partners they're dealing with and didn't want to see their people ending up being Diaz's new line of merchandise. Crap. Never had to infiltrate a carrier. But something tells me that we have to be sure those turrets won't light our arses up on retreat, once they figure out we aren't Azimuth."
15 Aug 2023, 6:07pm
"I can fix that once on the inside. Just remove our ships from the targeting parameters and do some... convincing... to stop the system from letting anyone else in. But ..."

I sighed.

"I'm not sure how much good that will be with a whole bunch of escort ships and those of Azimuth to contend with. I was really hoping to not have to rely on that option."

A spark suddenly entered my mind.

"Well, I don't know how that would help with the situation at the carrier, but I have one of my own that we could at least use to get there, or somewhere nearby. Not a chance in hell I'm jumping a Corvette all the way out there manually."
15 Aug 2023, 6:19pm
"You have a... what?!" I raised my eyebrow and looked at Kasumi. Not as much in a surprise, rather than to emphasise. I knew private carriers were a thing, but I didn't think that I'm going to meet one of the owners, and, in my imagination, a picture of an average carrier owner and an image of Kasumi were miles away. * OOC: My in-game carrier, AXDF Amaranthine, 'doesn't exist' both in my and in AXDF lore, this is an asset I've been using in game only, for game purposes.

'I'd like to interject if I may. What else was in that file that would warrant such an aggressive ghost organization for a single asset? Like there has to be a reason they would send this group as an escort right?'

The question showed my concern as well as my interest into the contents of the file. I hoped it would shed more light on the current situation and allow us to further understand how much opposition we would be facing.

'I can't imagine Silvia's implant alone would warrant this kind of response. Though it might provide us with some much needed assistance. Those raiders won't take kindly to being shot at. Sure some will flee but others will stay and fight them.'

Meowers"You have a... what?!" I raised my eyebrow and looked at Kasumi. Not as much in a surprise, rather than to emphasise. I knew private carriers were a thing, but I didn't think that I'm going to meet one of the owners, and, in my imagination, a picture of an average carrier owner and an image of Kasumi were miles away.

“I do, but I don’t particularly… ‘operate’ it, so to speak. I use the remote control interface to tell it where to go and occasionally throw some tritium fuel at it. The crew handles the rest.”

I decided to leave out the part where I had an AI to handle most of the other operations required, so I hardly had to do anything to maintain it.

“If you’re asking where the funds came from, well, someone decided that people bringing back plant scans from deep space weren’t paid enough. And you wouldn’t believe how much money that brought in from me just doing what I liked.”

I briefly paused.

“Come to think of it, didn’t you dock at that thing when you and Silvia went and poked the Maelstrom Thargoids? Anyway.”

I turned to Venus.

“Yeah, and about that - they’re planning some ridiculously dumb shit that has no chance in hell to work. Just have a look at it yourself. It explains itself better than I ever could.”

I sent the files to both of them, and waited as they read through the ‘Project Deliverance’ nonsense.
15 Aug 2023, 7:16pm
"Hm. But I didn't think it's yours. Anyway..." I took my comm and opened the incoming file.

Every line of that text contributed perfectly to my sarcastic grin, making it distinct and sharp, and moved my eyebrows up onto the forehead. I couldn't help but make an audible facepalm which marked the end of the file, and by the time I finished reading my jaw was already a little numb from that smirk.

"Oof. Azimuth should've been writing cheap movie scenarios about mad paranoid scientists. So much planning and effort for creating something so innately moronic and flawed, doomed to fail."
15 Aug 2023, 7:16pm
I open up the file on my data pad and read over everything. The details explain a very similar experiment to Project Seraph with the intent to bomb a titan. Reading through I notice something disturbing.

'They intend..... no.... they intend to use Silvia as the primary subject..... if she dies they will try again with other subjects. They don't intend to cut the chips out of Melli and Silvia they intends to cut it out of Melli and subject her to this hell.'

I drop the data pad in horror and stumble backwards. My face turns pale and I nearly vomit thinking about Silvia being subjected to anything that horrific. I look to Kasumi and Meowers fear on my face.

'We have to go soon. We can't risk letting Azimuth show up. We still have about 2 days before the scheduled exchange. Unless either of you opposes this we need to act now. I know it sounds rash but I can't let her fall victim to this fate.'
15 Aug 2023, 7:35pm
“I don’t intend to wait around much longer, but, uh… I think there’s some parts to the plan that we still need to go through. Like, yeah, you’ll approach and go into the carrier to keep it where it is, and we stay outside to fight those support ships and blast that transport to hell. But we still need to go inside at some point, and group back up. And trying to get docking systems under my… our control, while fighting, would be difficult.”

I paused for a moment to let the question in that statement sink in.

“So, a meeting point in there would be good. I guess you know that carrier’s internal layout?”

I looked at Venus for that.

“Also not sure when you want us to approach. Once our support ships engage, or when the turrets open up on who they were supposed to protect?”

I sighed.

‘Ok. Slow. You’re not there yet.’, I thought to myself.

“I… also tried to talk to whatever is at the other end for the Thargoids. No guarantees about it, but I tried to get them to not show up unless I call for them, or at least not fire at us. They’ll know I’m on that carrier so that should keep them in line - they seem to not be quite as inclined to kill me, if you’ll believe that.”

I shook my head.

“Won’t lie to you, though - I don’t trust them much. And with the kind of fight I have in my mind kicking off around that carrier, I have a feeling they’re going to be really drawn to it. Going to have one of those field neutralizers on my ship, just in case. Or maybe that fancy variant which lets you go to the Titan but only works for your ship, but I don’t really want ours drifting dead in space either.”

A longer pause followed as I focused my thoughts.

“One thing for sure, though - I won’t let them do to Silvia what they did to Seo, and tried to do with me. Hell, it’s more likely that would just kill her outright too, as soon as they start the connection.”
15 Aug 2023, 7:50pm
"So...", I looked at Kasumi, then at Venus. "I'm no infiltration or other covert ops expert, I think I'd better stick to one of you and follow your commands. Wherever you might need a covering fire, or a killzone corridor, I'll be there to do so. My engineering skills... I can put their sewage pumps in reverse for some weird fun, but nothing more I'm afraid. But, yep, I'd totally like to give them some hell, and I can manage that. Also, Marshmallow is outfitted for AX, in case our green friends start misbehaving."
15 Aug 2023, 7:52pm
'When the fireworks start I'll submit a docking approval for your ships. As soon as you see the countdown clock get there as fast as you can. The hangars are on the upper levels of the carrier. Meet up with the assault team that Aventus will be delivering in the hangar one over from yours.'

I pause thinking for a moment and turn to look at Kira.

'Did Melli have her armor when she was taken? If so I have a feeling Diaz will have locked it up in the armory which will be down 1 level at the base of the stairs at the end of the hangar corridors. Grab that and get to Melli. I'll work my way to you guys and meet up there.'

'Once inside delete anything that stands in your way. Diaz will likely hide out in his quarters just below the bridge. Which if there is anything I can use to reclaim my title, it will be in there. I will have to steal a ship once everything is done as my cutter will be long gone. I have a routine set up to have it jump out of system antagonizing the raiders with a holo projection of me displaying on open comms to piss them off.'

I look to Meowers once completed.

'When I say delete anything that stands in your way.... I mean it. Vaporize these people with extreme prejudice. Any and all bounties we claim on them will be yours to use for the AXDF war efforts.'
15 Aug 2023, 8:15pm
“I guess that’s something. I’ll get on as soon as that transport has been reduced to rubble floating in the void, if it shows up when we do. Not even a chance I’ll let it dock. If not, well, Azimuth can suck my middle finger.”

I stopped for a second, amused at the thought.

“Actually, they can suck it anyway.” I looked to Venus. “No idea if that little fox-thing had any armor or if Silvia had brought it along. We’d gone over into a hotel - my ship was a bit of a mess after that idiot Grenshaw thought he could get the jump on her. Sadly, he’s still alive.”

A thought occurred to me.

“Wait. Does he even know you’re still alive?”

I meant Diaz, and emphasized the ‘he’ as a result, hoping to eliminate any doubt about who was being referred to.
15 Aug 2023, 8:17pm
"Sure. Consider it done. Will be doing preparations today. Like, ammo, up to maybe one and a half thousand rounds in total, barrel coolant liquid containers to keep the party going," I counted on my fingers, "Shield batteries, some frags, EMPs and flashes to throw at them, a few field medkits... In short, I'm going to have a magic backpack full of funny stuff."

"And also, I'd be totally grateful for any direct undeniable proof of Azimuth and slavers cooperation. Maybe even connected to that Black Flight BDSM club, that'd be even better. Messages, docking schedules, comm logs, whatever. My superiors already know where and why I'm going, but they still need something in case of unwanted questions."
15 Aug 2023, 8:19pm
“Just plug me into the system and I’ll get whatever data you want or need. I’d say I know a thing or two about it after some… practice, on a few Federal and Allied databases.”

Expecting funny looks, I decided to add to that.

“And no, don’t ask about it. I was bored. I also kind of forgot what I found in them.”
15 Aug 2023, 8:32pm
'No one knows I'm still alive.'

The answer is short and to the point. I pull up an imagine on the holo projector. It's an image of a gravestone and a picture of someone who bare a striking resemblance to me. I turn away from the projection feeling remorse for the woman on the screen.

'I am a ghost. I don't exist. Not legally anyways. He made sure of that. I had intended to fake my death and disappear into the black with Silvia. Now I have to prove everything was his doing. I'm tired of running, I just want peace again.'
15 Aug 2023, 8:49pm
“Well, sounds like a better outcome to me than hiding out in the middle of nowhere. Or wherever you’d planned to go. And, as far as I’m concerned, I have no problem providing whatever evidence you need. Or getting it out of the carrier’s systems.”

I moved away from the table.

“Anyway, is that everything? Or do you still need us around here?”
