Elite roleplay: Off station

OFF STATION

Your ship, deep space, anything that is not happening inside the Citi Gateway or Ingaba...

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

A thunderous gong sound rocked the whole station, making it spin and crash into the Robigo sun.

Well, no. Not exactly. It was just Nerys' jaw hitting the floor of the cargo bay. And the station was spinning all around her. Or so it seemed to her.

"What? Are you serious? No! You cannot be... oh nononono! A ship? But it is worth much more than..."

Having forgotten to stick in at least one breath between all these words, Nerys was forced to stop.
24 Mar 2020, 3:10pm
"Pish! It's just a ship and not one I'm overly fond of. As I said, I'm going to flog it and give you a bunch of cash instead if ya don't want it"

Try not to look pompous and entitled.

"You have done me a great service Ms Nymei. It is my duty and honuor to show appropriate gratitude"

Give the Doctor a moment to gather her self.

"Do you want to take a dekko at it before you decide? It's only a short ride to the bay it's stored in. It's that or the monetary value. Oh, and my hospitality for the time you are here"

Press the accept button for selling the other ship I own leaving me with my Cobra and the Diamondback, not to mention a comforting amount of cash to help rebuild my status.

"Oh... I... Yes, I would like very much to see your ship. I heard that is... a great choice for explorers. But first... it's my turn to offer you a tea. For the good advice you gave me, the pleasure of your company, and... well, everything. It has been a great first trip for a rookie like me."
24 Mar 2020, 4:40pm
"Capital!. I accept your offer.  Just so happens I know some pilots that fly for a liner company that has a top class lounge where we would be welcome"

Still holding Nerys by the hand, take her on a Maglev ride to an Imperial themed cruise company's  lounge not far from the docks.

Greet the hostess of Lamaconda Cruises warmly trying not to flirt with her as I usually do and get us seated in the first class lounge.

Lambast MercyUnder the silent bombardment of six pairs of accusing eyes, Kai had to say something.

“Wot?”

"Look, we're not dumb" Raven said

"Yeah, I'd recognize that ass... uh, I mean that figure.... uh I mean, uh... regal posture?" Echo was interrupted by Silas clearing his throat loudly. He and Raven looked toward Silas to see he had one eyebrow raised, an expression they'd gotten to know well over the years.

"Uh... I mean... crazy coincidence, right Lamb? Like... aren't you upset these two are totally pretending to be you guys?" Echo changed his tune.

"Quite." replied Lambast shortly, as she walked toward the washroom. Kai followed, making eye contact with Silas in a way that ever so slightly said 'thank you'.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the look of pure amusement on Maul's face. Silas looked at him and shrugged, to which he replied by shrugging back and spinning his chair toward the monitor.

---

Once the girls had put their shopping away and quieted the 'rumors', the group went to visit Adle to close out the contract. Silas and crew had kept it short and sweet with a handshake, thank-you, and a final payment. After that they had stepped outside to give Lamb and Kai a moment for a more personal goodbye. Maul stayed back, presumably to offer some kind of gratitude for his treatment.

"So, that wraps it up, gentlemen." Silas said, leaning on the wall next to the door.
"Echo, were you ever able to learn anything new about this Carter Technology Centre?"

"Eh, not a ton. Looks like any other business complex as far as I can tell. I'm guessing its got something to do with Maul's 'corporation'." Echo replied

"Well... I'm out of ideas. I say we just head to Obambivas, and send Raven and Kai in and let them do their sneaky ninja thing."

"I am in favor of this idea." said Raven in an uncharacteristically level tone.

Just then the door opened and Maul exited Adle's suite, a little off put by the group getting silent and looking at him.

"Uh... Hi?" he said awkwardly.

"Hey, sorry we weren't being weird, just talking about next steps. Have you found out anything else about..." Silas was interrupted by Maul, who already had his slate out and was turning the screen to show him.

"Yeah, got all the telltale signs of a corporation front."

"Oh..." Silas was temporarily out of words.
"Well, I guess we check them out. We should keep an eye out for those weirdos that gave us the info though, this could be a trap." He said, finding his tongue again. "We should leave for Obambivas as soon as Lamb and Kai are finished.

They all nodded in agreement and proceeded to wait in silence for Lamb and Kai to exit the suite.

Creamy Goodness III"Capital!.

"Wow..." Nerys blushed, looking around, then down at her modest flight suit. "You should have warned me that it was such an exclusive setting. I would have tried to put on a more elegant dress".

The lounge was luxurious... and so was the hostess. Nerys smiled at the rigorous self-control shown by Creamy.

"I said tea, but maybe some wine is more suitable to celebrate the occasion?" she asked to Creamy, while the gorgeous girl was waiting for their order.
27 Mar 2020, 3:12pm
Seeing the change in Nerys, take the opportunity to put on my airs and graces. Stand to attention click my heals together after trying out another salute, and bow to Nerys.

"If mademoiselle would care to be seated.. ."

Pull Nerys' arm so she is span toward a sofa and she has no choice but to sit once the back of her legs makes contact with it.

".. ..and if she is inclined to allow one to order on her sagacities behalf then so shall it be"

Kiss the back of her hand and address the hostess.

"Something red if you please to compliment M'lays cheeks I think. It had best be light and fruity as we have been traveling. Perhaps a menu would not go amiss should the fancy take us. Thank you Liddier"

Have a quieter conversating about having a new slate and cred-stick brought to me while I chat with Nerys.

Wait patiently for the floor staff to bring a coffee table over and retire before giving all my attention to Nerys.

"Don't worry about that, everyone here is used to pilots and anyway, your flight suit is of much better quality than my own. Once my new slate arrives we can talk business, in the meantime, I'll be happy to be of what small use to you I am able"
27 Mar 2020, 11:16pm
"A very... interesting place" Nerys said, with a shy smile. "It remembers me of the Franklin Bar 3000, the favorite lounge in Philadelphia for graduation parties of medical students. Expensive but very classy. My father invited more or less half the city when I graduated, and I was... well... definitely embarassed, but very proud of him. I had a green dress, with a pearl necklace... it should still be in my bag somewhere... the necklace, I mean... oh, sorry, I digress."

With a sigh, she forced herself to shut up. When she was nervous, or embarassed, or unease (that is, 99% of the time), Nerys had a tendency to talk too much and too fast. Meanwhile, a couple of waiters arrived with a small service table. One of them served coffee, the other one a teapot with pastries.

"Lord Goodness" one of the waiters said, in a low tone. "May I suggest you a Chianti Classico Poggio delle Rose? It comes from the ancient region of Italy, on Sol and it is delicious. You will not find a better wine in this quadrant of space".
28 Mar 2020, 9:21am
"You'll know better than I dear boy, the Sol wines are a stranger to my pallet"

Remember Nerys' assistance in that respect.

"We better go for something very gentle in fact, I'll leave the choice entirely to you or your sommelier thank you"

Turn my attention to Nerys.

"Do be at ease Doctor, this is just a stop-gap while we wait for my assets to become accessible. I knew the concierge would be amenable to handling the nitty-gritty on my behalf. If you want to get ready to go out, I can furnish you with the five thousand you originally estimated would be a fair price for this trip. You deeply underestimated of course, but a deal is a deal as they say"

Sit back and spread my arms along the back of the sofa draping my right arm around Nerys.

"I have also instructed the concierge to take care of your docking fees by the by, and if you wish to use your fee to purchase a new green dress and accompany me out this evening, you would not find me unwilling. I think we should relax a little while, take a look at your new ship, sell your cargo and then you can decide on staying a while or discovering more skills you have up your sleeve"

Ignore the urge to stroke Nerys' hair remembering my promise to behave.

"The  Winds change ay Doctor?"

The sommelier brought the bottle and opened it at the table. Nerys tried the wine and didn't even need the tongue implant to confirm that it was excellent.

"Let me understand" she said, after a couple of glasses and some small talk. "You want to give me a ship and also five thousand credits to buy a dress? It is really too much, Creamy. Seriously. But... oh, well, I am curious. Maybe tomorrow we'll part our ways, and the galaxy is big... so I think we deserve an evening of relax."
30 Mar 2020, 6:13pm
After a little rest, feeling light-headed from the wine take Nerys to see the Bones Jumper.

"As you can see, its a stock Diamondback with very few light-years on the clock, I only flew her for about four days. The ground crew are putting the lasers back on and fitting a shield gen for you. I must have whipped it out for .. .. whatever I upgraded to after this boat. All its got on top of the standard Diamondback is an extra cargo rack and a C grade FSD"

Turn to Netys and put my hand on her shoulder.

"I am sorry about that, I was under the impression it was a bit better than that, but there you are. Well, feel free to have a gander; if you decide you want it, all you have to do is put your pilot ID in the hanger computer and confirm the transfer I have authorized. While you're having a lil poke about, I'll be here trying to raise Simon Faraday-Drak. He buys personal supplies for the CDE Corporation and he's always on the lookout for good tea"

Keep my slate in my hand in case Nerys has any questions.
31 Mar 2020, 1:14pm
"Wow... just wow".

Nerys looked at the ship in awe.

"A bit better that that? Are you joking?"

She had just learned to manage the fifty tons of the Sidewinder, but now Nerys was in front of a ship that was ten times heavier and three times longer. Basically a monster for her rookie piloting skills... but boy, she was so beautiful. Her best feature was a huge compartment for a FSD drive... and that meant an awesome range for exploration.

The display of hangar computer was flashing, like a siren's call. Cautiously, almost fearing to break the spell, Nerys touched the screen with her fingertips. The sensors inside the screen read her DNA and confirmed her identity.

According to the Pilots Federation regulations, do you accept the transfer of property of the ship identified with the frame number DBX-A53535....

"It's true" Nerys whispered. "It is really true".

She touched the YES square with her fingers, saying "I accept" at the same time. The computer registered her voice, her fingerprint and her genetic signature, confirming the transaction.

"Commander registration completed into the ship's memory" the computer said. "Do you want to synchronize the COVAS character matrix from your previous ship?"

"What?" Still lost in her dream, Nerys did not understand immediately. Then she nodded. "Oh, yes, yes, of course. I cannot leave Celeste!"

"Synchronization in progress".

It was done. It was really done. The main hatch of the DBX lowered gently with a hiss.

She has an hatch. With an access ramp! No more ladders!

"I am... speechless" she said.
31 Mar 2020, 3:36pm
Kai and Lamb exited Adele’s office a few short minutes later. All eyes turned to look at the two women.

“Uh...Hi?” Kai finally said, breaking the silence.

Silas glanced over at Maul and then waved away the awkwardness. “Are we ready?” He finally states as he walks up to Kai and places his arm around her shoulder.

“Yes, we’re squared away with Adele. Obviously, she is very disappointed that we’ve returned but, to her relief, we assured her that our stay was only temporary.” Kai said looking up to Silas.

“On the other hand, Adele did provide us a parting gift.” She produced a small data stick. “This is an uplink code. Drop it in the COVAS and it will allow Adele to send us secure data bursts. She’s having her intel people look into Obambivas corporations.”

Silas raises his eyebrows in surprise, removing his arm from Kai and leaning over onto Lambast. “Well, well...not only does Lamb not deceive me about her field trips, but she also provides nice presents.”

Lamb pushes him off jokingly, “Dummy, it was Kai’s idea to ask her about it.”

Silas looks dejected. “Oh.” Kai punches him softly in the ribs. “Jerk.”

The three finish walking up to the group. “Okay, so um, Obambivas then?” Maul asks jamming his hands into his pockets, wincing in pain.

Lamb appraises him, “Still sore?”

“Yeah,” Maul says while stretching out his joints. “The surgery did a treat and the quick healing tank but I’m still stiff where I got hit.”

Silas interjects, “Well, we can take the Arbiter and Hand and go sort this nonsense out and then pick you up later?”

Vega pipes up, “No sir...we’re all in this together. Your stuck with us now.”

Silas had a look on his face like, “aww shit.” He adjusts his weight to his other foot. “Okay then, Well, I’ve got my crew for the Arbiter. How do we want to split this up or Maul, do you want to bring your own boat?

Maul pipped in, “I would imagine if we’re trying to sneak into Obambivas and not alert anyone, the fewer the ships the better.” Kai’s arm shot up. “I call dibs on pilot seat for the Hand.”

Everyone looked at her with the same expression. “Duh.”

Echo leaned into the circle a bit. “Toast before we go?” Silas gave him a shove. “Toast later. We have a lot of work to do.”

The group hashed out a quick plan and rendezvous location prior to jumping into Obambivas. From there, they would prep their ships and covers and ensure they could update all parties on any pertinent information updates from Adele’s gift before entering system.

—Hand of Lambast—

Kai settled into the pilot seat while Lambast took up the co-pilot seat. Maul and Vega settled into the aft cockpit seats and strapped in. Lambast started to industriously power-up ship systems and wake up Holly.

“Hoooooollllyyyy! Kai here, seat please!”

Holly’s monotone voice responded, “Already adjusted little one.”

Kai wiggled her butt around, “Oh...so it is. Good job.”

A loud crashing sound from the cabin made everyone crane in their seats. Maul was the first out of his chair, pistol in hand taking cover behind the cockpit door jamb. Lamb wasn’t far behind with a dagger at the ready. Kai continued running through her pre-flight checks.

“Ow! Shit....” rings out from a feminine voice in the cabin. Maul, having a good idea of where the individual was, quickly cleared around the door, sticking the barrel of his pistol into the forehead of a short but cute female. She dropped her glass of tea, letting it shatter on the cockpit floor staring intently at the pistol pointed at her head.

Lamb quickly pulled Maul’s pistol down. “Naomi, what the hell are you doing on my ship and how did you get in here?!” Lamb demands.

Naomi, in shock, “I...I, uh..well, I asked Kai...”

Lamb turns on her heel, staring lighting bolts at Kai as she peeks up over the pilots chair, her blue eyes filled with mischief.

Lamb indicates the storable, collapsible fifth seat along the cockpit bulkhead. “Deploy that and sit there.”

Lamb takes her seat again in the co-pilots chair and opens a private chat channel with Kai via the cockpit consoles.

“What the fuck?” Lamb types.

Kai pauses in her checks to respond. “...”

Lamb stares at the little screen. “...”

“...”

“HURRY UP MS. DELANA!” Lamb gently taps out on the little keyboard.

“...”

Finally, Kai’s message posted.

“Look, I know your mad, I’m sorry. She’s an intern and was super excited and had no reason to stick around here and asked if she could go and promised she would stay out of the way and if we didn’t want her, we could drop her at the next station and she just wanted to leave here so I gave her the ship entry code and I’m really sorry. Can we keep her?”

Lamb gently, but distinctly typed out another message. “We will talk about this further, later. And what did I tell you about punctuation!”

Kai smiled as she finished the pre-flight checks and powered up the reactionary thrusters, looking over at Lamb, “Always be on time!”

Naomi pipes up from the back, “Wait....Kai’s flying? That’s wicked!”

Lamb turns to her, “Manners young lady.”

“Cleve tower, HOL33, request immediate departure clearance, PAD 38.” Kai said as she shifted in the cockpit chair.

The clear voice of the controller echoed back into the headsets in the cockpit. “HOL33, Cleve control, cleared for departure PAD 38. Fly safe Commander.”

Kai glanced back to Naomi, “Ya ain’t seen nothing yet!”

She stoked the reactionary thrusters, lifting the Python off the pad, clearing the infrastructure cranes. With a deft flick of her wrist, she punched off the flight assist, went to full throttle and stroked the boost. The Python crammed the occupants back into their chairs, pinning their bodies to the aircraft. Kai smoothly executed two crisp rolls mid-boost, leveling the ship just prior to entering the mail slot atomizing field. Naomi was hollering in the back. Lamb drowned her out, “KAI! WE TALKED ABOUT THIIIIIIISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!”

Smile to my self at causing a *Kid at Christmas* moment in Nerys and watch her go down to the deck to get a better look at her new ship. Without interrupting her, take my leave so I can sort out some new clothes and a place to stay, but type her a message as I walk away.

A change in ownership requires a change in the Ships name don't you think? Once the ground crew is done, may I suggest you take her for a little hop about so you can get a feel for the difference? Newholm Station in Sothis is far enough should be no more than 3 jumps in that boat. While there, you can load her up with Crystalline Gold. Newholm is the only place in the galaxy that mines it, and it just so happens that the crystallisation process turns the gold a little red, so it perfectly matches your hair. I think it would be a crime if you were to leave this area without getting your self some.

I'll credit you the agreed fee once I have visited the bank, then I will forward you Simons' information once I have organized your introduction. Should you require any further assistance, please feel free to contact me. Also, if you would care to have a reason to buy a new green dress and wear your beautiful pearls, I will be at the Inner Ring night club eagerly awaiting your arrival.

Eagerly yours, Creamy

Nerys spent some time talking with the ground crew, sorting the bureaucracy.

The new name was chosen without fuss. When she had retrieved the Sidewinder, her new life seemed a nightmare, a story with a bad ending. But Nerys hated bad endings, so had decided to name the ship Fairytale, because in those stories everyone lived happily ever after.

This Diamondback was just another fairytale... only three times longer. So it was quickly renamed Fairytale 3.

The ground technician was old. He smelled of engine oil and solvent, and Nerys's nose implant was compiling a detailed list of every aromatic hydrocarbon released by his coveralls.

"Aye, ma'am" he nodded. "No problem in writing the new name. Is it F-A-I-R-Y-T-A-I-L, right?"

"No, no" Nerys answered. "I am not Lucy Heartfilia".

"Beg your pardon?"

Nerys sighed. "It is F-A-I-R-Y-T-A-L-E. And the registration number is FE121".

"Yeah, noted. Good. Since we're touching the hull, do you want a new paintjob? It's not expensive if done together with the name".

"A new paintjob? Can I choose the color?"

"Sure you can. Have a look at the catalog. New paint also helps with heat dissipation and makes targeting you a bit harder. Just a bit, but everything counts, right? By the way, I heard you met a pirate coming here. Good job with that evasive maneuver, lass".

"Oh. Thank you, just luck" Nerys replied, blushing. Then her finger touched a picture in the catalog. "This one" she said. "Salvage Red".

"Are you sure? It's a bit... conspicuous."

"I plan to go out there. Outside the Bubble. It is very dark... I prefer to be visible."

"Your choice, lass. Give us three hours and the paint will be ready and dry".

The ground crew kept their word, and in the afternoon the ship was ready. Nerys tried it for a short jump around Robigo, and it was wonderful, but she decided to wait until the next day for a longer trip.

Now it was time to get ready for the evening.

The evening. It's just an evening, girl. A nice evening with a friend. So behave and stop being silly.

She took care of her rebel hair... a difficult task indeed... then she tried the new dress, her father's necklace... and even a bit of makeup.

Wonderful. Too bad I cannot wear sneakers with it. Last time I wore heels it was at my graduation. Let's hope to not make a bad impression.

At 9pm, she found herself in front of the Inner Ring night club, blushing furiously. Please don't look at me. Don't look at me. Don't look at me.
