Elite roleplay: Off station

OFF STATION

Your ship, deep space, anything that is not happening inside the Citi Gateway or Ingaba...

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

Amata needed a few seconds to process everything she just heard as it was still just an audio-link only, then responded. "Captain Yamamoto, this is Amata Lirein. It seems obvious to me that Commander Ao is currently in dire need of medical attention. How serious is it? And more importantly: Do you have the capabilities to treat him where you are or are you in need of the medical facilities only a station can provide?" She looked at Nerys, quite sure that what she was hearing right now would get the doctor's attention.

Ender listens to the man talking before giving a slow nod. He wasn't quite attached to the floor, very slowly drifting away from it, but he had managed to slow it enough not to matter yet.

"What I want you to understand, is that I consider this kind of business to work best if mutually beneficial. If I were trying to force or blackmail you, it's more likely that you try to turn on me. If you don't think you got anything more valuable to me than credits, or if it's the only acceptable payment to you, that is fine." He took a brief pause to crack his knuckles, seemingly out of habit rather than as a threatening gesture. "I don't expect you to part with anything of value before I give you anything. But likewise, you must understand I will not part with anything I think got value without knowing what you are willing to pay for it. I don't know what you would want to know yet, however. I already know some things, other things I can find out, or arrange. What do you want? The names? The ships? The association? Why they're doing this? To make it stop?"

The man lifted his left hand and made a short gesture with it, hand open and palm facing away from the floor.

"Here's the deal: You tell me what you want to know, and I will start working. Once I know more about the full extent of work required, we can negotiate about a price. If we come to an agreement, I will get what you seek, and you will pay what we agreed. Do we have a deal?"

A C Ender

"Here's the deal: You tell me what you want to know, and I will start working. Once I know more about the full extent of work required, we can negotiate about a price. If we come to an agreement, I will get what you seek, and you will pay what we agreed. Do we have a deal?"

“Capital!” Exclaimed Creamy a little louder than he intended glad to finely be having a normal conversation.

You get cracking and I’ll sling you some pay once you got a lead and some more once ya done. A half now and a half when on delivery sort of affair. I got a few hundred million on hand so…” Ninette played a low buzzing noise. ..”Ar, excuse me a moment please Ender”

Creamy blocked Enders' view of a holo- display with his body and Ninette displayed his current account balance. The PA also reminded him via text that he didn’t currently have direct access to his money thanks to his Slate and major IDs all being aboard Nerys’ ship. Creamy didn’t have much over sixty million credits at all. By his standards, that was only a couple of month’s standard of living money.

He remembered he had brought a few ships along the way to the Inara system to throw off people that may be following him. He did have a Dolphin in the fitters being decked out to a very high standard. That ship had absorbed a lot of his cash. He turned off the display and turned back to his guest.

“Ar, umm.. Don’t rush that man. In the interest of honesty, I need to liquidate some assets to free up some credits and attain new account access credentials. Mine are currently back on Citi Gateway and I don’t think your work will come under the Pilots Federations approved vendors so I can't do a COVAS transfer” he said with a comical smile.

“Worry not dear boy, I’ll have a sensible amount of cash ready soon. I am also a favoured customer for a fair number of the galaxies highly desirable and hard to attain goods, so that’s another avenue of tradable resources I could pay you with as my credit with them is always unquestioned. Anyway, that’s a discussion for later what?”

Creamy strolled past Ender towards the bar to fetch himself a glass of sparkling water. While he was there, Creamy took the bottle of scotch off the shelf that Ender had opened. After topping his glass and injecting the water, Creamy left it on the bar and approached Ender.

“Knowing why my friend and I were attacked on Citi Gateway would be a good start I feel. If you are happy with our arrangement I’ll have Ninette request contact with your COVAS so you can reach me when necessary upon accepting. For now, I would like to head for a safe harbor and have my landing gear replaced” hinted Creamy with a lot less subtlety than he intended.

Creamy extended his free hand and the bottle to Ender.

“You can have this as you seemed to enjoy it” he said raising the bottle a little “and I like to close a deal by shaking hands” Creamy waited with his hand outstretched.

Ender couldn't help but smile at Creamys apparent hapiness. While Creamy had his back turned to him the first time, watching the holo-display, Ender took the opportunity to move his right hand to his mouth, letting the scotch globule free into his mouth. It was a good tasting one, and he had been wanting to have a bit more of it. Ender wasn't really worried about not getting payed. And man with a decent size ship and will could get credits. Should Creamy fail to honour his contract? Well, then whoever had been hunting him would be the least of his concern. Besides that, Ender was patient. He he already had a sizeable amount of liquid credits available, and several ships. His typical lifestyle wasn't exactly expensive - having a ship which was cheap to operate, and having no expensive habits to speak of had its benefit.

"Indeed, we will discuss the exact details later" he interjected when Creamy brought up the discussion to be had.

He nodded, pleased at the progress as Creamy turned back to him. He was curious about the replacement of the landing gear however. He reached out his hand and took a firm but not rough hold of Creamys hand, and attempted to shake it once, making him bob up and down in the micro-gravity. "We got a deal... And if you're looking for a safe harbour for your landing gear replacement, I know some places which will do as told and not ask any questions." Ender looked at Creamys eyes, smiling genuine. If it was from being friendly, or the deal they just made wasn't quite obvious.

"Oh no, I got a place to set down. Just don't want to move off while we're still attached. That would be bloody stupid and with that odd choice of device your wearing on ya wrist, it would also be suicidal"

Creamy was eager to answer Nerys' message and get on his way to .. Short Stuff's carrier.
17 Oct 2020, 10:38pm
After seeing Ender off, Creamy took his shoes and boots to the cockpit along with his polish, scuff repair, and a selection of color-coded cloths and brushes. Sitting in the cockpit Creamy had Ninette plot a course for .. Äu’s carrier, but sat down with his ice-cold sparkling water to read the message before starting the trip.

To Creamy from Nerys Nymei.
We are making contact with Ao right now and we should be able to share his position with you very soon. Please do not take unnecessary risks and be extremely careful until we'll be sure that your ship is not tracked. If we move with caution, we will be able to reunite all together very soon.
Nerys, out.

That seemed very formal completely lacking Nerys' personal touch. Creamy shrugged and picked up the first piece of footwear that needed a lot of attention. He could surprise Nerys and the others by hopefully turning up before they arrived. Creamy was confident that .. the chaps’ staff could take care of a tracker if it indeed existed. After checking that everything that wasn’t magnetically attached to a surface was in a container that was, or under a retaining strap, Creamy started the jump. He had a while before he would arrive, so he was in no rush to contact the lovely sounding Captain Yamamoto.

Once the scuffs were filled, smoothed, waxed, and polished away on his favoured pair of brown shoes, Creamy got to work on bringing them to a mirror shine.

“Ninette darling, please connect me with Captain Yamamoto if you would be so kind”

Once the channel indicated an open line, Creamy spoke without waiting for the coms officer to answer.

“What oh there. It’s Lord Goodness the Third again. May I chat with Attracting Captain Yamamoto please that man?”

Nerys listened carefully to the CFL-radio exchange. Ao had been hurt? And while protecting her!

"Damn" she whispered, clenching her fists. "I can't do anything from here... How far is he?"

"In my line of work, you have to take precautions. Kidnapping is common, and nothing would be easier than disconnecting a docked ship and lock someone in an airlock. This device..." Ender tapped his right wrist "... is to stop that happening. If someone is actually suicidal... Well, docking would have been a death sentence regardless, so you better spot that behaviour and not attempt a meeting like this."

Ender accepted the bottle from Creamy and gave him a courteous nod.

"I won't keep you longer. I will be in touch as soon as I got some more information."

He turned around and kicked of from the floor, twisting as he moved to the ceiling and pulled himself towards the umbilical at high speed. He raised his voice to speak to Creamy.

"I will disconnect my ship when I'm through the umbilical. Fly safe commander! And if you can't - fly dangerous!"

Even with one hand holding the bottle, he was proficient navigating with just one hand. He made it back to the umbilical significantly faster than they had moved away from it. The airlock cycled easily, and he drifted back to his ship. He closed the airlock behind him, and manually disconnected his ship. "That was fruitful" he thought, nodding to himself.

Back in his cockpit, he wasted no time and boosted past A Knight of Goodness. He turned around with flight assist off to face the krait, giving a pitch up-down command to make his Diamondback nod towards the krait. He didn't know if Creamy would see the ship, but it was the gesture which counted. Having done this, he engaged the next system in his plotted route and engaged his frame-shift drive. He gave another boost and engaged thrusters to align his trajectory, and jumped out of the system.

Rose replied to Amata;
"Standby"

Doctor Forge had already arrrived and was examining Ao for signs of an infection, he had stopped at a rash on Ao's right arm.

"Acting Captain pass me a glass"
Rose passed the doctor one of the drinking glasses, who rolled it back and fourth across the rash.
There was no change, he swore loudly before checking a similar rash on Ao's left leg above the cast, same result, he stood up announcing:
"Sepsis"
The doctor brought up his wrist, he had a portable console there and spoke.
"Medical emergency, Captain's quarters aboard the Yamato, medical room standby for emergency paitent transfer"

Rose stood silently, horrified,
"Acting Captain, its just lucky you were here this late, at least it answers my question as to why YOU are listed as the Captain's next of kin" Doctor Forge spoke with a bright attitude and gave Rose a cheerky wink, no doubt and attempt to calm her down.
"However...as his next of kin you have a decision to make, we can try to treat him using I.V fluids and biotics, but that has proven ineffective thus far, the other option...is amputation, now i cant make that decision for him, and considering the Captain's state of mind neither can he...only you can"

"Is there any other way?" She asked, trying not to sob.
Doctor Forge shook his head;
"Not unless you have a supply of nanomedicines stashed away and a Doctor trained to use them, even then, if it is as bad as it looks he will loose most of the mobility in that arm, as for his leg, I can't tell until I have the cast off, even then, taking the cast off this early could have serious side effects on the damaged bones, but if his arm is this bad, his leg will be worse, im sure of that.
Acting captain you must decide! And soon, If this keeps up I don't know how long he can hold up like this... I'm going to take him to the carrier's medical bay and stablise him first, I will call you for your decision when he is ready"

Rose slumped into the chair by Ao's desk, as Ao himself was loaded onto a stretcher by the medical team that had just arrived, and carried out.

An Icon appeared, informing her she had another incoming call from creamy.
She accepted Creamy's call and added his line to the ongoing line from Amata, Nerys and Jason, everyone could see everyone

Amata looked at the screen that now showed both an unknown woman on one side and Creamy on the other. Seeing him resulted in a short flickering of anger on her face before she turned her attention to the woman. "Captain Yamamoto, I assume?"
19 Oct 2020, 5:53pm
It looked like the sort of screen call Creamy enjoyed. Three attractive women, two dressed to impress and one looking great in a sheet. The faces he was seeing told a different story. Amata looked like she had just been slapped in the mouth with a frozen lemon juice hand; Nerys was lovely as usual, but a serious set to her eyes and jaw hinted at something going on. The look of worry, turning into fear on who Creamy supposed was Rose, confirmed something not at all good was happening.

Creamy gave Nerys a lil wink but kept quiet. Many experiences had taught Creamy that sometimes it was best to keep quiet until he knew what was going on. Saying the wrong thing to beautiful women could get ugly.

Rose nodded into the camera.
"Yes, Im acting Captain Rose Yamamoto, i'm...i'm...."
She took a shudderimg breath and unconsciously began twisting the neckline of Ao's shirt she had thrown on during the commotion between her fingers.
"I'm filling in for Captain Ao as Captain of the Yamato - II....until he gets better"
The last four words seemed more like she was trying to convince herself rather than making a statement
"Are you all safe?"
19 Oct 2020, 7:58pm
"Jason, Nerys here and myself are safe and on our way to Stephens Enterprise in Burojinura. Though thanks to Mr. Goodness here..." she looked at Creamy, her anger now clearly visible. "...we almost got killed in that motel. If it were not for Ao us three would be dead by now." She looks back at Rose. "What's his condition?"
19 Oct 2020, 8:10pm
Creamy raised an eyebrow at the second wild accusation from the crew of that ship and remembered to challenge it at a more appropriate time. It had probably been a stressful situation and highly-strung women tend to be prone to hysterics at times like that.

Creamy carried on listening and waited for an answer to Amatas' question.
19 Oct 2020, 9:53pm
Until he gets better.

Nerys knew very well those words. And their tone. The pain. The fear in Rose's eyes. She clenched her fists.

"Commander Yamamoto" she said, without waiting for Rose's answer. "Nerys Nymei here. If your physician desires a medical consult, please tell them to open a direct channel with me. I can receive Ao's medical chart in a few seconds."

Then she turned towards Amata, whispering very softly so as not to be heard on the communications microphone. "Can you bring me there quickly?" she asked.
