Elite roleplay: Off station

OFF STATION

Your ship, deep space, anything that is not happening inside the Citi Gateway or Ingaba...

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

Amata ponders about what she just heard, then nodded. "Very well, I think it explains what happened well enough. Gerhard, please inform Jason in the cockpit to change course and give him our new destination." "Of course, Commander."

Amata looked at Nerys. "Anything else you might need to relay to the Captain before we close the channel?"

(I'm like two or three months late with this but ah well)

Falcon15eCal pinched her cheek as she turned away, “My dear Kai, how many times did I tell you, never listen to their words, listen to the little words that they never say. Nineteen hundred sharp, system time; you know the place.”

With that, Cal stood from the booth, deposited a rather large credit chip on the table and waved toward the server kiosk and walked out of the coffee shop.

Maul kept silent with a quizzical look on his face as he watched Cal leave.

"What the hell did he mean by that?" Maul asked.

Vega suddenly nudged him with her elbow and showed him the message on her slate. It was a message from Echo about Kai's "surprise party". Lamb wanted everyone back on the ship in three and a half hours. Considering no one was aware of any of this till this exact moment, it was indeed a surprise.

"Three and a half hours?! But thats..." Maul began to exclaim. To which Vega responded with another elbow to the gut.

"Ow shit...." He grumbled.

Kai looked at the two of them a bit perplexed but she'd been around them enough to realize that this kind of behavior from them was actually fairly normal.

"Yes that's what he said. "Nineteen hundred sharp" would about three and a half hours from now." Vega said in an attempt to cover for Maul.

Kai took a moment to check her slate too as she had also received a message from Echo.

"Update?" was all her message read.

Kai was a little shaken by the encounter with Cal, so she chose not to answer him back.

"What are we gonna do about this meeting?" Vega asked Kai.

Kai slightly shook her head.

"'We' aren't doing anything about it." Kai said firmly. "I'll be going and you two will just have to give me support by doing....whatever it is you two do with all those gadgets."

Maul furrowed his brow but was afraid to say anything else after that second elbow to the gut.

"Maybe we should talk to the others first. We should really do this as a team. Don't you think? I'm sure Lamb would understand." Said Vega.

Kai suddenly had a mental picture of Lamb's face and she looked pissed. More pissed than she usually does.

"No no no. This stays between us!" Kai said as she slid out of the booth. "Besides, we don't need those other guys. There's plenty of brain power between the three of us to handle this."

Maul nor Vega bought that line and by the look on Kai's face, she didn't either.

Maul and Vega looked at the Kai as she stood there with a big  awkward smile on her face.

They then looked to each other. Vega shook her head at Maul as he shrugged and looked back to Kai.

"This dude said you know the place, right? Let's just go early and get the jump on em." Maul said as a faint smack could be heard from Vega as she facepalmed.

"I just need to swing by the Hand and grab some...'gadgets' ".  Maul said, grinning as he did the air quotes.

Kai's awkward smile turned into one of genuine satisfaction as she began to realize that perhaps twiddle dee and twiddle dumbella could actually pull this off and keep Lamb from knowing a thing about it.

Amata Lirein

Amata looked at Nerys. "Anything else you might need to relay to the Captain before we close the channel?"

Nerys shook her head. "The data I've sent is enough for now. Keep monitoring the patient and cross your fingers... We'll try to arrive as soon as possible."
25 Oct 2020, 6:27pm
Amata nods. "Very well. Captain Yamamoto, we'll see you soon." Amata advised Gerhard to close the channel, sighed and then turned back to Nerys. "Is Creamy always this much trouble?"
25 Oct 2020, 7:54pm
Amata Lirein"Is Creamy always this much trouble?"

Nerys sighed. "Well..." she said. "With me he has been always a perfect gentleman. And... well, he is still my patient, so... " she smiled "...I avail myself of the right not to answer".
25 Oct 2020, 8:28pm
Amata sighed once more, then shrugs. "Guess he's just unable to handle criticism then. Either way, if he contacts you again please promise me that you tell him how his actions had put us all at risk. It's obvious that he likes you a lot, maybe you can get through that thick skull of his."

She raised her arms over her head, stretching herself. "Well, guess we'll should make the best of this short break we got ourselves. Cannot wait to get me something to eat and take a shower. Hell, maybe we can even have a quick nap before we reach that carrier."
25 Oct 2020, 9:19pm
Nerys nodded. "These are the three magic words that every doctor in emergency room repeats like a mantra. Shower... just taken. Something to eat... hell, yes. And a nap... well, one of our teachers repeated often that surgeons are like phones: they must take advantage of every battery charger they can find."
25 Oct 2020, 9:30pm
Amata smirks, then stands up and starts to unzip her Remlok suit. "I think I'll have a shower first. Since you already had one I think it would be best if you head to the galley and prep us all something to eat. The food cartridges are in the upper left cupboard, plates are right next to it. The printer for them is on the console, and silverware is in the center drawer." Amata headed towards the bathroom, peeling her upper body out of the suit while walking towards the frosted glass door.

Creamy let the Star Wolf know he was going to stop for some vital repairs and have the ship checked for tracking devices, after all it was mostly true. Finding a resort where his ship wasn’t wanted didn’t take long. A Knight of Goodness did a lap around the Tranquillity Stop before heading to the station. Privet craft were not allowed to dock at the leisure complex, clients had to take a shuttle. It was only going to be a four-hour break, but it was going to be full of nothing but relaxation and good company, well people paid to be good company.

Some professional-level relaxation would give the technicians at the station time to fit some new landing gears and install some of the simple software and systems Ninette had put on the impressively long list. It was a shame he didn’t have time to get the rear armour and hull repaired too.

Lying on a heated massage table with nothing but a towel for modesty while the talented Tattiana worked her eldritch magic on his aching muscles was a small slice of heaven. His swollen knee had started an interesting story, and for once Creamy had no need to embellish the tail to make it sound unbelievable and interesting. After a short trip to the infirmary for an anti-inflammatory, Tattiana returned to ease the muscles in Creamys’ legs and hear the rest of the story.

The injury earned Creamy a free session in the low-gee physiotherapy pool witch used the hour Creamy was going to spend in the bar, but the company was still good. Tattiana suggested she help Creamy apply some tan toned Altairian Skin to hide the bruising around his keen. It took a moment for the penny to drop and Creamy was very surprised at himself for missing it, but he had put an hour aside for R&R and it would be rude not to show a little gratitude.

After showing appropriate gratitude to his therapist, Creamy headed for the departure lounge. The Altairian Skin would be a good gift for Nerys. With a fair stock of that stuff, Nerys could save water when she went to Colonia. If he got her some of the colour changing cultures it may elevate a few hours boredom out there. Creamys’ nose told him he was wondering near an aromatherapy room. He looked in and saw a few people relaxing to claiming music and burning innocence. He smiled to himself because it gave him a good idea for some mischief gifts. Creamy just had to think of something for Johnson and Êô too so it didn’t look weird.

Nerys blushed, surprised by the show... wow, she definitely is in good shape!... then nodded. "Oh... yes. Yes, of course." She turned on her heels and trotted out, searching for the galley. She had no experience of a ship so big, but there were plenty of signs and arrows in the corridors, so she reached her destination quickly.

The food system was exactly like the one on her DBX, but the silverware was real silverware, with small magnetic plates to keep it in place, not recyclable plastic. Nerys took out the food cartridges from the cupboard and examined them: even if they were not real dishes, their quality was better than the ones she was used to. There were the usual "burgers" and "hotdogs", but also more sophisticated variations.

Uhm Nerys realized. I don't know Amata's tastes, and neither Jason's. I don't know if they have some nutritional, cultural or religious limitations. Let's improvise!

Medical students in Philadelphia took turns doing the cooking for the whole class, so she was used to prepare food quickly and for a whole variety of cultures. Nerys selected a cartridge of veal stew... certified halal and kosher, the label said... then one of potatoes and another one of green vegetables. This way, potatoes could work as side dish for the meat but also as a main dish for the vegetables if someone was vegetarian or vegan. She printed the food then added some spices, salt, and tasted the result. Not bad at all.

She searched for some red wine, and her tongue implant helped her to choose the best one. Then she prepared water and fruit juice, printed some bread, and finally set the table.

"Gerhard, please announce that lunch is served."

Rose sat there for a few moments staring at the blank screen, help was on the way.
Promptly she relayed orders to the patrol ships she had mentioned during the conversation to be on the lookout for the Astarte and A Knight of Goodness, and to provide them a security escort to the carrier upon arrival in Marrallang.

Rose was exhausted, the events of the last few days felt like they had taken months, it was only now the panic of the last half hour was past, she could feel the burning sensation in her foot where she had cut it on the broken glass, the sticky feeling of drying blood made her retch.
Hobbling slightly, Rose made her way into the bathroom, took a pair of tweezers, some iodine powder, and a bandage from the medical cabinet, and began to wash, steralise and bind the wound, it would probably need stitches, but for now Doctor Forge had more pressing matters.

Rose felt her cheeks flush as her somach gave a rather audible growl, she hadn't eaten anything all day, although it was now rapidly approaching 4a.m local time, Rose slipped on her boots, and still wearing her joggers and Ao's dirty shirt decided to sneak down to the mess hall for some food.
She really didn't care anymore if people found out about her relationship with Ao, Tiberius had made it public knowledge to the engineering crew, and dispite Ao's fears of a rift forming in the crew, it had spread in the few hours since and not a single person had taken issue, but all had respected their wishes and kept it confined to the crew of the Yamato.

She stepped out into the empty main corridor that ran from bow to stern, the mess hall was located in the forward compartments, just aft of the observation deck in the nose.

The old ship creaked and groaned, sounds that until yesterday had been un-audible with the hustle and bustle of a busy crew, but with two thirds of the crew dead, or gone as mutineers, and mkst of the remainder on compassionate leave, the giant ship felt empty, cold, and un-inviting. It was a ghost ship

Rose didn't stop at the mess hall, and instead carried on into the observation room, the only light came from the giant curving and angled window sweeping from port to starboard before her gave a view of the carrier's docking pans, the massive blast doors and walls had been retracted into their ports below the pans giving the normally cramped docking bay an open view of the entire yard right the way down to the far end.
Crew scuttled about below carrying out their tasks, sparks flew from multiple areas on the hull of a federal corvette on the pad to the Yamato's starboard side, the newest ship to join the fleet, it was yet to be given it's tag and name, the sleek gunmetal hull glinted in the glare of the spotlamps, and was due to undergo final testing and tuning within the week.

From what Rose had been told it would make the Yamato-II obsolete, using much of the same tech from some of the best engineers in the galaxy, a massivley oversised powerplant to power it all and two huge hardpoints, compared to the Yamato's one. The ship had been supposed to go to Tiberius, at least if any small silver lining was to be gained, it was that the mutiny had taken place before the highly advanced ship had passed into his command.

Rose turned away from the window and instead looked at the walls either side of the door;
On both sides was a large outline of a conda, taken from side on, above the left was I-401 Yamato, the Right I-401A Yamato-II.
Abover the door in bold letters read the words:
We do not Die, We live on in those still alive, Remember them!

Below the left conda was 147 names in flowing golden script
Below the right were the 56 crewmen who had died yesterday, they were the first on the wall, and Rose knew that before this was over they would not be the last, below both memorials candles burned, an old earth tradition, meant to guide their spirits home and to peace, peace she feared, would not be on the cards for a long time

Jason had never felt more uncomfortable in his Remlok. He felt like he didn't belong. Like he was too far from home.

The Astarte cruised gently on automatic pilot as Jason referred to his terminal for updates that he dreaded, but felt were necessary.

The invitation to join the others for dinner fell on deaf ears. Everything within Jason closed around the nauseous knot of dread in his stomach.

The newsfeeds had started this feeling and they continued to deepen it. Aisling's father was dead. Terrorism on the rise. Thargoids surging in aggression. And his friends, his comrades, the Angels, were getting murdered in disturbing numbers.

He sat on his cot and thought of those people he'd never see again. Voices gone silent across the comms.

And here he'd been, far from where he could help, where he could have saved lives.

His terminal fell from numb fingers. His head went into his hands, and he wept.

The low gravity of the little platform was really getting on Lambs’ nerves. She grew up on a station very much like this one and forgetting how to get around at speed like she used to, made her angry at herself. The Hand was a few levels down next to the commerce module. Lamb also knew her temper was up because she had been lecturing her best friend about her past life on her birthday, and Lamb had completely forgot. She never forgot anyone’s birthday, let alone Kai’s.

The smell of sweat, oil, booze, and fast food spread by the overstrained atmosphere recycler coated Lambs’ throat. This was just like the part of the station Lambs’ mother never let her daughter go without her. Even now as a grown woman with a colourful military record, she felt she was in the wrong place and hurried on towards her nice clean ship with an exemplary life support, air scrubbing system.

Noise carried on a wave of thick tobacco smoke and other ignitables spilled out of a bar as the door swung open to admit a patron. Glancing in, Lamb saw heavy men pawing cheap women under dim light bouncing off the carcinogenic miasma. Behind all of that, a well-stocked, well-lit bar shined like a seam of gold in dull rock. Lamb skipped to a halt on her magnetic boots after passing the doorway and backed up for a second look. An arm attached to a man that was as much muscle as fat gripped the handle as Lamb reached for it.

“This place ain’t for the likes of you toff, walk-on” rumbled the doorman.

Lamb met his gaze. He was big enough, too big for Lamb to deal with, and stabbing a man was no way to go about quietly finding out why they had been sent here. Lamb checked her pockets for a cred-stick and found none, so she felt around her boots. She always had money somewhere.

“Will this pay my way sir?” asked Lamb lighting the display on the little stick so the two hundred credits value could be seen.

The man swiped at the stick but Lamb moved back and cocked her head waiting for an answer to her question. The doorman huffed through his beard before answering.

“Yeah, but that stupid knife ain’t goin in. Gimmie that coat too”

Lamb drew her foil and handed it over; she checked her coat pockets, retrieved her slate, and handed that over too.
Raising her arms, Lamb gave the man a twirl so he could see the lack of weapons “May I enter now?”

He pushed the door open and watched Lamb walk in before throwing her sword and coat in a bin.

Turning heads was usually a side effect of walking into a club with Kai. This time, Lamb was managing to do it herself, but the looks were not of admiration. Ignoring the low-grade hate, Lamb pressed on to the bar and the bottle that had caught her attention. There it was glowing like a beautiful read-head hiding behind her friends. Indi Bourbon. What was a bottle of that stuff doing out here? It was only brewed in one place, and they rarely had any to sell to free traders. A few bottles of that would really make Kai happy and go a long way to easing Lambs’ guilt for everything petty and small mined she has said about her best friend today.

The barman looked at Lamb as if she was a dirty stray come to beg for food.

“Good afternoon young man, may I have a glass of Indi Bourbon please?” asked Lamb using her most humble tone.

“No, fuck off Imp slag” was the simple matter-of-fact response she was given.

The blunt arrogance and confidant delivery of the insult left Lamb a little surprised, and she took a second to rally. She had somehow walked into enemy territory without realising it; the doorman should have been enough of a warning. She was here now, and they had the perfect gift for Kaislas’ birthday. Lamb mentally cracked her knuckles and kept the determination off her face.

“I do apologise if I have caused undue offence by coming into your delightful club, and I will gladly pay for not only a crate of my requested libation but also a sensible fee for my unwitting transgressions”

What Lamb imagined was a friendly smile only made the barman look even more upset.

“If we want your credits you dumb bitch we’ll take them. Now, you..”

Separating his finger from the rest of his fist to point at Lambast was the mistake. She crushed the solitary digit in one hand and grabbed the mans’ lips in the other digging her nails into his cheeks pulling his head over the bar so she could whisper to him.

“I’m trying to be nice about this; I just want to buy a drink. Give me any more of that lip, I’ll tear them off your ugly face”

His blood warming her fingertips coupled with the mans’ cold sweat and sudden pain-induced fear gave Lamb an endorphin rush that almost deafened her to the sound of weapons being drawn.

“Whops” thought Lambast “That was a bit too far” She let the barman go, stepped back and raised her hands enjoying the backdraft of her own chemical high. The barman took an energy pistol from its holster on his hip and pointed it at Lamb with a shaking hand while his aching finger cooled on the trigger.

“Woah woah woah. Whats ‘appened ‘ere?” A tall man put his large gloved hand over the trembling pistol pushing it down. “Al’right al’right everyone, take it down a notch yeah, I’ll ‘andel dis” His eyes took in everything that was Lambast, head to toe and he smiled the same way a wolf dose before it goes for the throat. “Settle sweet ‘art yeah, come over ‘ere”

The man tipped his head towards the other end of the bar keeping his eyes on her all the way as they walked. He was almost a full foot taller than Lamb and unlike most of the bar’s clients, what she could see of him was solid and scared. The colour of his skin around his eyes nose and lips suggested he had been exposed to the vacuum of space more than once and survived. Tough didn’t begin to describe someone like that, Lamb hadn’t seen a man so naturally intimating since she served in the Thunderhands.

Both of them were appraising the other as they stood with the bar between them. They both knew what kind of person they were looking at, and they both felt the excitement of being within reach of an unrepentant killer. Neither one was going to let it show as they pretended to be civilised.  The big man was the first to speak.

“My doorman al’right, or should I go give him something for the pain?” he hadn’t blinked since they met.

“He’s fine, I bribed him. The bottle of Indi caught..”

“Don’t give a shit. We don’t serve your kind here, so turn around and do one while I’m still acting the gent yeah?” said the man leaning on the bar looking down on Lambast.

Lamb Took in the scenery before stepping up to the bar herself to respond.

“I would agree that you don’t tend to serve polite customers with manners and knowledge of a thing called soap” Lamb met the mans’ gaze again as she placed her own hands on the bar “A true gentleman, by the by, would never interrupt a lady like that”

Grunting with indifference, the man clarified his position for the uppity little cow giving him sass in on his station.

“Nar, ya don’t get it treacle, its toffs, the upper class, society we don’t want anyfing ta do wiv. You bunch of twats all fink about da bigger picture ann ya selves yeah? And the rest of us dan ‘ere ‘ave ta put up wiv the scraps that fall of ya table and the crap that trickles wiv it. Well not in this system sweet ’art. You fucks can do ya business and fuck off. That’s it, understand?”

Looking at the man, Lamb knew it would be useless explaining where she came from. She was part of society now, and therefore his enemy. She still wanted that Bourbon.

“That, sir, is just what I intend to do. I would like to buy as much Indi Bourbon as you are willing to sell me please, then I will gladly be on my way”

“Oh well in that case love, fresh out. Goo’ bye now”

They scanned each other’s face looking for a crack, a sign one of them was going to back down, but it wasn’t there. Lamb knew as well as the man behind the bar, she was the one at a total disadvantage. She had to change tactics before she caused the trouble she’d told everyone else to avoid .. And get herself killed in the process.

“How about this sir? I will pay four times the going price for a crate as it’s for a friends special day” Lamb, still not looking away from her opponent raised her voice “And the same price again for a second crate of Indi Bourbon for your patrons to enjoy at their leisure” a murmuring of acceptance turned into a cheer as the offer spread around the bar covering the end of Lambs' sentence. “in appreciation for their patience with me”

For the first time, the mans’ face changed a little. His eyes darted away for a moment and his eyebrows creased together in fleeting thought, closely followed by a slow-growing smile.

“Al’right treacle, you can ‘ave that one. Can’t go pissin off the regulars now can I?” said the man still thinking about what Lamb had said.

After she left the bar, the guy with Lambs' nail marks in his face talked to his boss.

“We gonna take her ship and ransom that bitch off to her family Cat?”

Cat was busy checking the date and trying to remember Kaislas’ birthday. Kai had talked about an Imp friend with hair as white as her own many times while they were together.

After a rather long shower to wash away the stress of this rather unusual experience on the station Amata toweled herself off and went back into her quarters in her birthday suit, looking through her wardrobe on what to wear for both dinner and for her nap afterwards. After rummaging through it for a bit she picked a nice looking bodysuit and put it on before heading into the galley, savouring the smell of the food that was filling the corridor right in front of it.

"Hmm, that smells fantastic." she said to Nerys, looking across the table to see what she prepared for the trio on board.

. . .continued from The docks:

Delacy DE-27  You have cleared the station exclusion zone. Enjoy your trip commander.

Descartes sat back to enjoy the ride as Raglan engaged the FSD.

It never failed to excite: the noise, the vibrations, she was pressed deep into her seat. Managing to look over at Raglan she noticed that he'd left the thrusters full on. No problem in something small and quick to respond, but in a Python, things took a little longer. Unless he was ready for the drop, they would be hurtling towards the red dwarf at the end of the jump far too quickly for comfort..

She would be ready with a warning.
