Elite roleplay: Off station

OFF STATION

Your ship, deep space, anything that is not happening inside the Citi Gateway or Ingaba...

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

Descartes  took a sip, coughed, spluttered and with tears in her eyes, started to laugh. Eventually she recovered and wiped her mouth.

"I'm so sorry, something made me laugh just as I started to drink. Let me start again."

More carefully this time.  "You're right, I like it."

It was warming and refreshing, easy to drink. A bottle could easily disapear between them, but she had no intention of drinking a lot. The fact was that gravity was taking its toll, starting to make her feel weary. It took longer to get used to being heavy again, even after just a few days in zero or near zero g.

Putting a hand on his arm, she said, "I think I'm probably going to need an early night. Sorry to be a killjoy"

Jason Frimantle

Jason chased a bit of food around his plate with a fork for a moment before he looked up at Amata to respond. There was a liquid shine in his eyes, and he blinked to clear them.

"I think that arrangement would work, yeah. Thank you."

He turned to Nerys. "You of all people should know of the importance of rest, Doctor." He said it without acid and smiled a little. Even if he was struggling, he could still support others.

Nerys nodded. "Yes" she said, already fighting some yawns. "I am... feeling the stress of the escape, I think. Call me when it's my turn, and... please... let's go as fast as possible. I told his doctor to put Ao in suspended animation, but this is not a risk-free procedure... I am trying to gain some time and... "

Yawn.

"Well... I need that couch now or I'll smack my nose on the floor."
23 Nov 2020, 10:04pm
Amata smirked. "Like we just said, you can have the bunk in the co-pilot's quarters. Jason will use mine once I relieve him in the cockpit. You can sleep until we get there, then you should be well rested and can concentrate on Ao alone." She then looks at Jason with a smile. "Wake me once we're half way there, will you?"

After finshing her food she turned towards Nerys again. "That was very good, thank you."
23 Nov 2020, 10:15pm
Rex joined her in laughter

"Never had anyone react like that before!" he feigned incredulity

"It's OK", he regathered himself, "To be honest it might be worth getting a good night's rest for us both, plenty to see and do over the next couple of days"

he finished his drink and stood up.
25 Nov 2020, 5:57pm
Descartes smiled to herself.  'Sounds as if he plans to stay around a little longer'.

Back in the room she grabbed her bag and headed for the shower. The water felt wonderful, like fresh rain.  She luxuriated in it for several minutes before turning the flow up to its highest pressure and lowest temperature. Almost crying out with the sudden change, first like stinging injections into the skin, followed by an exhilarating burst of pleasure.  Drying the shower controls and floor, then towelling herself dry, she stood in front of the mirror.  Ran her fingers through her short hair, checked out her appearance and slipped into shorts and t-shirt.

"Shower's all yours."  Returning to the room.

Sitting crossed legged on a pillow next to the bed she had decided was hers, she took several deep breaths in and out, placed her palms together, fingers pointing upwards, closed her eyes and relaxed, slowing her breathing down until her chest and belly rose and fell almost imperceptively.
She was still there an hour later.

Rex took his time in the shower, the rush of hot water relaxing his muscles.

after a while he stepped out, towelled himself down and put on some shorts.

He shaved, combed his hair and slowly made his way back to the room.

She was still sitting on the floor meditating, so he tried not to disturb her.

He slipped into bed and lay on his side, waiting for sleep to engulf him.

Amata LireinAmata smirked. "Like we just said, you can have the bunk in the co-pilot's quarters. Jason will use mine once I relieve him in the cockpit. Jason managed to have a few bites, and looked somewhat abashed that food might go to waste. Still, he laid down his utensils and stood.

"I'll wake you." He looked between the two of them. "Both of you get some rest."

He turned back towards the cockpit and did his best to push his feelings aside to get them safely where they needed to go.

Gradually Descartes thoughts began to seep back into her consciousness. She looked at the time, surprised that almost an hour had passed, not sleeping, but trying not to think. It was not always successful. Easing her muscles and relaxing she looked towards Raglans bed. He was breathing easily and slowly. He was asleep.

She slipped in behind him, moved closer and tentatively put her arm around his shoulder. After a while he turned to face her. It felt wonderful to feel her arms around another warm body, the first for a long-long time. They were good together, his bare chest against hers, gently holding, caressing, exploring. Kisses on shoulders, necks Hands on soft warm skin. It felt natural, relaxed, and in something that seemed like an unspoken mutual agreement, they both held something back, as if now was not the time for complete abandonment

Waking up in the morning she slipped quietly out of the bed, wondering where her shirt was.

He felt her move, deciding to stay where he was while she sorted herself.

He had slept soundly following the unexpected events of the previous night, and was properly rested.

He heard Descartes go into the bathroom and slipped out of bed, donning one of the white towelling robes that the hotel supplied.

Calling up the local station information he prepared a tentative itinerary to suggest to her.

She emerged from the bathroom, he smiled.

"Sleep well?" he asked as he kissed her forehead softly.
28 Nov 2020, 8:16am
Effie, woke from her nap, certain that she had been drugged. Memories of the last year that she thought she knew, were now, completely erased.

The weird thing is that her long term memory seems fine, as does her short term; she clearly remembers her life back in Rhea when she was young and also talking with the Deck Chief only yesterday, a Commander called JB, Chinese noodles and the fact that certain people are looking for her.

She simply can’t remember anything that happened in between.

This is very odd she thought...

She opened her personal log. Clearly someone has hacked her system and deleted a handful of entries made over the last few days!

Descartes was wearing clean shorts and top, she smiled.  "Very well, et tu?"

She had indeed slept well in his arms. It brought back memories, pleasant memories now, no longer sadness or regret. She really felt that she could move on at last. she looked over his shoulder,
draped an arm around him and slipped it inside his dressing gown.

"What are you planning for us? You decide, I'll go along with whatever you choose."
28 Nov 2020, 11:57pm
"like a log", he grinned at her.

He sensed a change in her, she was less tense, calmer somehow.

"I was thinking breakfast, then maybe explore the markets and galleries"

He reached out and pulled her close to him.

"Of course, there's no rush, is there?"

For the first time in many months, he really didn't have anywhere he'd rather be.

"So like, when we get there you're gonna just like, hack them or something, right?" Kai asked as she led Vega and Maul to the meeting spot that Cal had mentioned.

The three of them had just retrieved Maul's backpack full of gear from the Hand and were briskly making their way towards the meet.

"Uh...something like that. It's not that simple though." Maul responded.

"Yeah, yeah you keep saying that but like, these guys aren't gonna be too happy to see me. That meeting with Cal is about as nice as they get and well...you saw how that went."

Vega checked the time on her slate and looked over to Kai.

"You worked with these guys in the past, didn't you? Maybe they'll cut a deal or something. Have you haul a load of weapons or something."

Kai let out a nervous laugh. "That's not exactly how it works with them."

Maul dug his slate from his pocket and reached it to Kai. "Just get get this as close as you can to whoever is calling the shots in there. I'll be outside the place doing whatever I can from my computer."

Kai took the slate and stopped walking as she stared at it for a moment. Maul and Vega slid to a halt beside her.

"If something happens to me..." Kai began to say.

"...and it won't." Maul said cutting her off.

Kai ripped her deadly glare off of the slate and put it onto Maul.

"If something happens to me, you do realize that Silas and Lamb will probably kill you, right?"

It was Maul's turn for a nervous laugh.

"Yeah...." He cleared his throat and nodded his head quickly.

"We won't let that happen." He said as he tried to keep his voice from cracking.

"Uh...guys?" Vega interrupted.

"Lamb alert." She said as she pointed not too far down the walkway.

Lambast MercyAfter she left the bar, the guy with Lambs' nail marks in his face talked to his boss.

“We gonna take her ship and ransom that bitch off to her family Cat?”

Cat was busy checking the date and trying to remember Kaislas’ birthday. Kai had talked about an Imp friend with hair as white as her own many times while they were together.

“Nar, not that one Rodders. Let everyone know she's off-limits, I’ll deal wiv ‘er mi-self”

Lamb had just stepped out of what appeared to be a sleazy club of some sort.

The three of them scurried back the way they came and ducked into the closest alley.

************************************************

Lamb furrowed her brow and looked to her left. She knew she saw something in her peripheral a moment ago but it didn't appear to be there now. Was someone following her?

She turned to the doorman.

"My belongings, sir?"

He reluctantly retrieved her sword and coat from the bin and reached them back to her.

"Ya got lucky in there. Won't happen a second time."

Lamb was too fixated on the itching thought of someone following her to respond to him in the way that she'd liked to. Much less even hear what the man had just said to her.

"Yes, you too." She said as she looked down the walkway and began to put on her coat.

"What?" The doorman responded, clearly confused.

Lamb looked back at him a bit surprised. His response caught her off guard.

"What?" She said back to him.

"....Wh....what?" He said again.

Lamb shook her head and tugged on her coat a bit.

"I don't have time for this." She said as she turned on her heel and began approaching whatever she thought she saw rush into the nearby alley.

************************************************

Kai peeked around the corner and quickly pulled her head back.

"She's coming this way! She can't know about the meeting! and Cal! and any of this!" She shouted in a whispered tone.

"Okay then how the hell do we explain us hiding from her in an damn alley?" Maul whisper shouted back.

"We'll just say that we thought we saw...a rat with a...." Kai was stopped. She was drawing a blank.

"...What!?" Saw a rat with a what!? Finish that sentence!" Maul said trying to be even quieter this time.

"I DON'T KNOW!" Kai said before peaking back around the corner.

************************************************

EvilCreamsicleRight... he had forgotten. He thanked her and stood there for a minute trying to decide what the most useful thing he could do would be. Ultimately, he settled on 'lunch', and wandered down to the commerce district to try and find a food court. After some chat with the locals and blending in, (he was still on the job, after all), he visited what was, supposedly, the best sandwich shop on the station, although he suspected they'd all say that if you were to ask them. He sat down with his food at a table outside the shop, which was across the street from some kind of clothing bazaar and a seedy bar with a large bouncer guarding the door. As good a place as any for people watching, he thought to himself.

Echo sat across the street enjoying his sandwich as he watched the whole situation between Lamb, Kai, Vega and Maul unfold.

He sighed a bit and laid his sandwich down. If Kai was this desperate to avoid Lamb, he knew something bad had to be going on.

He wiped his mouth and left the stations greatest sandwich on the table as he ran across the street. Just as Lamb was about to approach the corner into the alley, Echo called out to her. Causing her to turn towards him.

"Lambast, I'm glad I found you. There's uh...well...we've got a....situation." Echo stumbled over his words.

"Yes? Well out with it already, Mr. Ramón." Lamb didn't mean to seem rude but she wasn't sure if someone had got into trouble, was hurt, or worse....something to do with the party.

"It's...about the party..."

Lamb inhaled deeply.

"What did Raven do...or was it Maul this time?...Kai?"

At that moment Maul, Kai and Vega peered around the corner to see Lamb's back facing them as she talked to Echo. Echo quickly glanced over at them and back to Lamb.

"Actually, it's not really about the party...it's..uh..." Echo was rambling at this point.

"Mr. Ramón, I need you to tell me what is going on. I'm already stressed enough as it is, trying to plan this par-"

"Uh... I THINK WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT US!" Echo blurted out over Lamb's words to prevent her from accidently ruining Kai's surprise party.

Luckily, Kai was too preoccupied with sneaking away to pay any attention as to what was being said.

The three of them quietly sneaked away from the situation. Once they we're out of ear shot they rushed down the walkway in the opposite direction of Lamb and Echo and began planning a route to the meeting location.

Raglan sensed a change in her, she was less tense, calmer somehow.

"I was thinking breakfast, then maybe explore the markets and galleries" He reached out and pulled her close to him. "Of course, there's no rush, is there?"

For the first time in many months, he really didn't have anywhere he'd rather be.

Descartes moved round to face him and sitting on his lap, pulled her shirt up and off over her head.

"We could spend a little time deciding what to have for breakfast and working up an appetite.!"

They did some more exploring and a little later found themselves in the shower. With the help of some warm flowing water, nature took its natural course and they discovered that they fitted together perfectly.

Eventually, laughing and towelling themselves dry they emerged from the shower. He modestly had a towel around his waist. She was happily naked.

"Lets get breakfast sent up, I'm hungry for noodles." She laughed.

"Then you can show me round the markets. Buy Something to wear that doesn't make me look like a pilot."
01 Dec 2020, 10:11am
“Did someone say Noodles?!” She declared to an empty cabin.

Still in somewhat of a daze after discovering she had been drugged and pages of her logbook deleted, Effie was in danger of becoming paranoid. Now she was hearing voices in her head talking about noodles and she still hadn’t managed to secure a bowl for herself since she spotted that JB guy, the one with the goofy robot, back on Station!

“Things are starting get mighty weird around here”, she thought.

“Kate!”

“Kate, feed the cat please, I’m going to take a nice long bath with a glass of fizz. If the Coms light up, tell them I’m EVA”
