Elite roleplay: Off station

OFF STATION

Your ship, deep space, anything that is not happening inside the Citi Gateway or Ingaba...

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

Meowers
"Aventus, can you hear me?" I activated the suit comms. "Tell those guys to slow down and wait for a signal.

'Yes. I can hear you. Is there a problem? Have them slow down? I'd think you would want the area cleared out.'

Aventus replies seemingly confused by the request but repairs the information along to the troops holding the base of the bridge column. Of all the things he could have been asked to do having the troops show down their onslaught wasn't one of the things he thought about. He made his way over to the chemical treatment chamber and looked over the progress meter. 2 minutes or so left on the soak before he could pull me out and apply the calcium gluconate gel to further treat the chemical burn.

Diaz cycles through the cameras keeping Kira and Meowers in view. As they approach another section of the carrier the systems operator turns to Diaz.

'Atmosphere systems ready to be disabled sir.'

'Vent the section with them first.'

Diaz says while pointing at the screen. A smirk on his face as he watches the carrier panel light up warning of a hazardous environment. Fires that had been burning in multiple decks were immediately snuffed out and a few of the straggling raiders suffocate and die due to having been unprepared for the atmosphere venting.

Air was sucked out of the room we were in, and the surrounding sections, an act which I could only shake my head at, barely seeing the point.

"Like that's going to do anything to stop us. Idiot."

Suit seals had automatically activated when pressure dropped. I put my hand to my helmet, activating comms to the entire team, both nearby and elsewhere on the carrier.

"All teams, Diaz is venting atmosphere from the ship. If you have a helmet, now's a good moment to put it on if you haven't."

I approached a nearby camera, looking right at it, with both hands on my hips, well knowing that those who were watching could see me through it. And I activated the connection to the bridge intercom again.

"You think you can play dirty, Diaz? Let me remind you what you're dealing with again. Because I can play that same game too."

I raised my right hand up, in front of the camera, and made a slow swiping gesture. That, through neural input received by my wrist computer, acted to shut down the camera and cut it off from the system, a command which I set my worm to spread through the carrier. At the same time, it began to fill the bridge operating consoles with junk data and malware, making it much harder to operate them. If they weren't quick, the worm would attempt to luck them back out too - which I was going to try doing anyway.

I checked carrier schematics again, seeing a warning that the next corridor was blocked entirely, then turned my attention to the group, still on internal comms.

"If anyone has a suit breach, take care of that immediately if you can, no dilly-dallying. There's better deaths than to suffocate because that idiotic fucker up in the bridge has as many morals as I have sanity left. Which isn't a lot, considering that I'm here. Our path ahead is also blocked by rubble."

I looked at Meowers, speaking on the private channel between us two.

"I'm going to try to get the life support controls for the local decks back under our control. You look for a way around. I'm sure we can do without the risk of suffocation, or finding rooms flooded with corrosive gas."

"What an idiot," I stated indifferently as the armoured glass on my helmet dropped down, sealing and protecting me from the vacuum.

"Yes, tell them to slow down. The bastard is venting the air, and we expect an ambush in the bridge elevator hall," had to explain my decision to Aventus in more detail. "Four people don't stand a chance, we should clear the hall first."

Couldn't help but approach Kasumi quietly during her live camera show: standing behind her, I raised my hand. And not simply 'raised a hand and let it hang in the air meaninglessly', but showed one universal, common and recognisable gesture, which has been widely known in all parts of human-inhabited space for thousands of years. The gesture is simple, and you can repeat it at home if you want, or test on other people to observe their reactions. All you have to do is turn your hand so that the back of your palm is facing the person you want to gesture to. Then, slowly or not, depends on the situation and the 'mood of the moment', curl your fingers into a fist, at once, all but the middle one: the middle finger should remain straightened and clearly visible. Congratulations, you've mastered the 'middle finger'!

Ordered the troops to look for another way. Didn't want to do more of that legwork. So, it was found in a couple of minutes.

"Here, that breach seems wide enough," one of the soldiers reported. "Ain't your red carpet, but should do it."

I went to take a look. Several wall panels were damaged, bulging, and he was able to pry them open, giving us access to a technical compartment nearby. Once a storage of something not quite important, and, thankfully, also both non-explosive and non-corrosive, it was totally crushed by a piece of armoured bulkhead: that big chunk of metal, no less than a tonne, apparently was ripped out by an explosion and floated in vacuum, surrounded by various technical rubbish. I squeezed through the gap and inspected the room, pushing the debris away. There was an equally sized hole to the left, but the door on the opposite side was the most important detail. It was structurally intact and led to a parallel corridor that we could use as a detour.

"Everyone, get over here. Be careful, don't hug the walls too tightly, those edges are nasty."
28 Aug 2023, 9:26pm
“If I can get through it, I’m sure it won’t be a problem for anyone else.”, I remarked, as a somewhat light-hearted joke. “And if I do get stuck, there’ll be someone around to pull me out. No, you don’t have to get it if you don’t.”

I squeezed through behind Meowers, with ample space to go for most of my body, though making especially sure none of my backside got caught on the jagged edges of metal present. Then, waiting until everyone else came around.

“So, guess I should tell everyone, but I’m trying to get life support back under our control so we don’t have to worry about suffocating. Or some other dumb shit like getting the room flooded with corrosive gas. In the meantime, I’m sure everyone on the bridge is going to enjoy the cat videos that suddenly started playing on their consoles.”

I looked at Meowers.

“Lead the way. Guess I should call you boss since you’re in charge, but I have a feeling you wouldn’t like that.”

Meowers "Yes, tell them to slow down. The bastard is venting the air, and we expect an ambush in the bridge elevator hall," had to explain my decision to Aventus in more detail. "Four people don't stand a chance, we should clear the hall first."

'4? What are you?... *Aventus taps the comm device thinking it was malfunctioning and cutting parts off.* No there are 12 there currently. I meant 4 are going to be joining them.'

Aventus pulls me out of the chamber and applies the gel after drying my body off. The stinging sensation wakes me from my unconscious state.

'Ahhh! Fuck! That burns! Fuck!'

'Venus, please calm down. I am trying to avoid the pain.'

Aventus calls over the secured line to the Meowers and Kira's team.

'Please hurry up. I know this isn't easy buy I need to get Venus to a proper hospital. I can't treat this chemical burn fully in zero-G and the extent of her injuries is severe.'

****

A large explosion at the front of the carrier lights up the darkness as a corvette slams into the nose of the large ship. The carrier shutters and shakes as the impact reverberates through the steel hull. Alarms blare on the bridge as another large ship slams into a cyclops and drives it into the carrier in and attempt to spread its corrosive blood over the ship to weaken it. One Black Flight ship covers its hull in as much of the corrosive goo as possible and slams into the landing pads just in front of the bridge ripping a massive hole in the hull the corrosive goo spreading around eating away at the steel.

This angers the thargoids even further and more of the green beasts appear from the space between space. 2 more Medusa and 4 each of Cyclops, basilisk, and hydra appear. Diaz turns as his bridge officer screams out in horror. One of the creatures flies up and stops on front of the bridge and lets out a roar red flashing from its core. Silvia sees the Medusa and her vision floods with flash backs of her time on the gnosis.

'No! Not again! No!'

She looks around the bridge trying to locate an escape. She spots it just to the left of Diaz and tries to make a break for it. Diaz notices this and draws a pistol loaded with stun rounds and fires 6 in quick succession at Silvia. The resulting electrical shock locks up Silvia's muscles causing her to drift forward uncontrolled. Diaz lurches towards her and grabs her wrist. He turns to a security officer stand nearby.

'Give me your restraints and your controller. This one is flighty.'

'Yessir.'

The officer tosses Diaz the shock shackles. He catches them and places the ring around her throat and the two smaller ones on her wrists.

'You move again and you will get another jolt. So sit still.'

He turns to the still pulsing angry Medusa and stares it down as he walks up to the window.

'God's you're fucking ugly. Just be happy I can't control my turrets.'

Jenna Marquez'4? What are you?... *Aventus taps the comm device thinking it was malfunctioning and cutting parts off.* No there are 12 there currently. I meant 4 are going to be joining them.'
"Hells. I thought those four were our only reinforcements," I replied to Aventus with a mix of relief and self-resentment. "I'm literally in the dark here. Is the hall with bridge elevators clear now?"

I struggled with the door for a little while, but then forced it open and peeked out. Everything was the same: reddish-dark doomy-gloomy interiors of a condemned ship, with traces of burnt metal dust and smaller debris floating in the vacuum. Still no atmosphere though, but it wasn't a surprise, that door wasn't airtight. Fortunately, no more raiders.

"Come on, let's go," I nodded towards the opened door and walked through.

Kasumi Goto“Lead the way. Guess I should call you boss since you’re in charge, but I have a feeling you wouldn’t like that.”
"You have enough time to figure out how you want to call me. But I'm always open for more options! Phah."
29 Aug 2023, 2:53pm
"I think I'll just leave it at your name. Unless you want me to call you 'Meowers'... and I still expect you to explain that one when we're done beating up the devil.", I said, after following her through the door, then returned my attention to the life support controls.

Whoever was trying to keep me locked out was at least halfway competent, and I couldn't divert all my attention to the matter, partly still keeping an eye out for any enemies trying to hide in the shadows, or behind pieces of wreckage. And the increasingly high load of information coursing through my implant made those matters even worse. Then, I had an idea, reminded that I had an AI on my back.

"June.", I called out, disabling external comms for a moment. "Whoever's trying to keep atmospheric control out of my hands knows their thing, and I can't really do that by myself right now. You said you have remote access, so, would you mind working your magic and getting the air back into the lower decks? Would do to not worry about suffocating from a suit breach, or having the room we're in flooded with corrosive gas."

"I can do it, if you need it.", the AI replied.

"That'd be great, thanks. Consider it your way of getting some payback on that asshole. If you need any programs to play with, ping my wrist computer. It's got some stuff you might be able to use to get into the carrier's systems more easily."

With that cleared, I moved closer to Meowers, and tapped on her right shoulder to get attention, gesturing at her to fall back from the main group slightly, but stay within range in case anything happened. When we did, I activated the private channel between us two, showing her the scene that had just unfolded on the bridge, and which I had caught in a small display of the camera feed I had pinned on the top right of my helmet.

"Silvia's not taking this too well. Might be good to throw some reassuring words at her, but I'm not sure I'm the right person to do that, considering my connection with the Thargoids. Stuff like, that they're not here to attack the carrier, and so on. Feel free to tell Diaz he's the ugly one, not the big guy."

I sighed, partly from exhaustion, and leaned against the wall, as if to use it as a support, even though I didn't risk falling in zero G.

"I'm not sure how much longer I can do this with them around. Something about me is keeping them in line, but it's really draining whatever energy I've got left to keep my head running. Would you have something? My own stuff isn't cutting it, and if I go out, that whole act about them not attacking us is going to fall apart pretty quickly. And by quickly, I mean basically immediately."
29 Aug 2023, 4:49pm
Meowers"Hells. I thought those four were our only reinforcements," I replied to Aventus with a mix of relief and self-resentment. "I'm literally in the dark here. Is the hall with bridge elevators clear now?"

'Yes the corridor is clear. We have had no signs of opposition for nearly 30minutes.'

The voice rings through the communications line from one of the commandos holding the base of the bridge corridor. The calm during the storm is always the most disturbing. Sure it brings some relief from the onslaught but knowing the storm isn't over nor how much worse it could be is unsettling. The team waits patiently for Meowers and Kira's group to arrive knowing the ever looming storm waits just ahead. The danger in the fog growing ever more violent and angry.
29 Aug 2023, 4:59pm
I focused my eyes on the little window of video feed that was translated on my in-helmet HUD. Couldn't see much detail through the interference, however it was obvious that the woman in restraints was Silvia herself.

"Okay, I'll do... Hm. Can they hear me?", I noticed that Sylvia and the man next to her quickly looked in the same direction. Must've been the position of a loudspeaker. "Ah, nevermind. So."

"Silvia, maybe you can recognise my voice. This is Ina. I know what you may be feeling right now, but, please, take my word, they aren't going to attack us. Not here, not today. You know what I do for living. And the fact that I didn't go for them could serve as a proof. We're getting you out of this stinkhole, and whatever happens here after we leave shouldn't bother neither me nor you."

Then, I changed my tone to sound more... naughty.

"And who should be bothered... Well, look at you. Big, strong, as manly as an ox's arse. Those are cyborg limbs, aren't they? What else do you have cybernetic? Maybe, any other parts you didn't feel so secure about having them original? Hmmm... And yet you put her in shackles. Unarmed. Want to feel sooooo soooo dominant, aren't you?", and, adding more disdain and derogation into the voice, I added, "Poor fucker. It sucks to be you."
29 Aug 2023, 5:46pm
"I guess you did a goob job.", I remarked, sounding somewhat strained. "Now can we please not forget about me? I swear, my brain feels like it's about to turn into mush."

Most of me just wanted this to be over with. My brain, or any human one, for that matter, was never meant to act as a relay point for a hive mind, and it was really beginning to show on me now. Sound suddenly returned as the room filled with air again, an the suit seals automatically disengaged.

"I have restored life support.", June announced, a certain pride in the tone. "The system is now isolated and operating autonomously."

"Well, I guess that's something." I looked to Meowers again. "Did you have something for me or not?"

The tone of my question was rather harsh and impatient, but I was beginning to feel really shitty, and had no intention of letting that fact slip away. Doing that would likely result in the doom of everyone onboard the carrier, not just Diaz.
29 Aug 2023, 8:09pm
Kasumi's words caught me off guard, and I raised an eyebrow, showing a mix of surprise and concern.

"Ow. Something for you? What do you mean? Are you... alright?" I looked at her. She was obviously drained, both physically and mentally. Though, I've had no clue about what exactly was wrong. "Oh. I see you don't. What can I do to help?"
29 Aug 2023, 8:14pm
“I just need… hell, anything that gives me a serious kick so I don’t fall flat on the floor.”

I took a deep breath.

“If that thing in my head shuts off, those Thargoids outside are going to go berserk. And you know what that means. Hell, we both know.”

I took off my helmet and pulled some fabric aside to expose my neck.

“Do it there. If you use an injector or something. I don’t like getting stung by needles, but I need that right now.”
29 Aug 2023, 9:23pm
"Holy craps... Are you... Ah, okay. I'll do it."

I've opened the medport on my suit, a little compartment on the inner side of the left armguard. It contained three injectors with military-grade mix of drugs especially designed to keep the wounded fighting a bit longer, or to make them survive longer. Stimulants, painkillers, antibiotics, vitamins, glucose, epinephrine, all kinds of that stuff. It... saved my life once, during the crash on "91". Administering a whole injector could keep you standing even if your wounds are fatal. Yep, you're certainly going to die after that, but not before you could dump a couple more mags at your foes. And, added to the blood stream little by little, over a long period, this thing could sustain your vitals if there's anything left to sustain: exactly the scenario I've been through.

And... Should admit, it made me a bit nervous. The content of injectors, all those dosages, concentrations, combinations, all that, it's calculated according to my average weight and biochemistry. And my own medical knowledge was, and still is, limited by military first aid programme. On the other hand, I don't have any weird tech in my body that grants me so much resistance to chemicals...

Anyway. I've had no other options.

I've opened the panel and examined the injectors. Yeah, they're designed to be used automatically by the suit's med interface, but could be also extracted from their ports and applied manually in case of emergency. One of them was empty already, thanks to the idiot with a shotgun. Second injector was damaged and stuck, and its content leaked out. So, I took the third, trying not to show that it was the last one, keeping the same face and closing the medport quickly.

"Yep. This will sting. A little."

I took Kasumi by the shoulder with one hand and carefully aimed the injector needle at the blood vessel. No, not the jugular. Yeah, resistance and all that, but... No, just no. An ordinary blood vessel just above her collarbone. When the tip of the needle was just above the vessel, I pressed a button and activated the injector; everything was done automatically: the needle pierced the skin at the right angle, stopped after going through the vessel wall, and a battery-powered plunger did the rest.

"That... Should help. Be careful, though."
29 Aug 2023, 9:59pm
I gave her a weary look, the sides of my mouth drawn upward lightly.

"Not a regular human, remember? Even if I took what would be considered an overdose... this, thing, wouldn't allow it. I'd have to go way overboard for anything like that to kill me."

I remained leaned against the wall until I felt the drained sensation dissipate, at least a little bit.

"Think it's getting better." I put my helmet back on. "Let's just go and get this done. We spent long enough on this shithole, and I'm tired of acting as a relay point for the Thargoids. Both figuratively, and literally. Besides, Diaz is probably getting impatient. And speaking of ..."

I threw a look at the closest camera.

"... he'd probably have wanted to shoot himself if he'd realized what kind of 'opportunity' he missed out on by killing me. Oh well. And thinking of cameras... my worm should have shut them all down by now. If it hasn't, I'll have to give it a sternly-worded address about slacking."

I took a deep breath, glad that no one else was around to hear about this, 'this' being the Thargoid connection and the effects it was currently having on me.

"As if saying it twice wasn't enough, let's get Silvia. Maybe now that I've said it three times, maybe we'll actually make it to the bridge without getting interrupted again."

I pulled my railgun back out after finishing that sentence, and began to walk, attempting to keep the droning in my head away until whichever substance Meowers had given me fully kicked in, which would hopefully cause the headache and weakness to abate completely. Even without the concern of my implant spontaneously shutting down, I still wanted to be at my best to take Diaz on, because he sure as hell wouldn't make it easy on us.
30 Aug 2023, 8:33am
"Yeah, definitely," I nodded. "And, hey... Sorry, if I haven't noticed you not feeling okay. I may be not as good with those non-verbal signs as you may expect. Especially in a serious shit like this."

. . .

Secondary passage served as a detour long enough to give us an opportunity to skip the long and boring rubble removal part: we left the blocked section behind and returned to the main corridor of the deck via another technical tunnel. Most of the raiders we encountered on our way were dead already, frozen with their faces contorted with terror and pain, hands still clenching their throats or any objects to hold on. They weren't ready for the sudden depressurisation, many of them didn't have helmets with them, and when Diaz vented the air, their death was short and painful. Those few who survived weren't that lucky at all, caught off guard by our sudden appearance, they didn't stand a single chance.

And finally, we made it to the elevator hall, in the base of the carrier's column.

"Damn how am I glad to see you all," I addressed to commandos, holding their positions in the hall. "Aventus returned to the ship and put me in charge. And I was in the dark, in every sense of the word, all the time: thought my group was the only one left."

"Phew," I looked around and exhaled in a bit of relief, with a laboured breath. "So, listen up. Check your stuff and get ready. Cameras should be cut off by now and Diaz might not know where we are and how many of us left standing, but I'm sure as hell he knows we're coming for him. We aren't using those elevators, too obvious, too easy to override or just rain grenades down on our heads. We should take the emergency staircase, it has no mechanical parts and no indication. Unless it's trapped, of course... A thing we should keep in mind."

Then, an idea dawned upon me. I looked at the elevators once again.

"Some of us may use the elevator shafts. Kasumi, can you disable the elevators completely, and open the doors here so we won't waste our ammo on them? So... Some of us may enter the elevators, remove their top panels by... Literally any means you see fit, including shooting at them. Then, get on top, jump and let the absence of gravity do the work," saying that, I pointed a finger upwards. "Make sure to stop yourself before reaching the bridge, stay silent and invisible and wait for the signal from the staircase team. We may appear suddenly and from everywhere. A bit risky, but we should use any advantages. So, what do you think?"
