Elite roleplay: Off station

OFF STATION

Your ship, deep space, anything that is not happening inside the Citi Gateway or Ingaba...

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

As Vasil spoke, Maul adjusted his own comms settings to aid in isolating his voice and phase out some of the interference.

Vasil Vasilescu"Hopefully you won’t have to go too far into the belly of the beast.”

"Me too. This shit's already giving me the heebie-jeebies."

He flicked a switch on his backpack and the simple mechanical arm attached to the side of the pack sprung to life producing a beam of light in front of him. This section of the Anansi looked to be in fair shape when compared to the heap of crumpled metal behind the door he'd just came through.

"Looks like they may be routing some of the power from this area of the ship to the ones that under active construction." He spoke to Vasil but mostly to himself as he trekked through the halls, using what basic signage remained on the walls. There were screens an holo projectors around many of the unpowered doors that were likely used in labeling areas but without power, they sat dormant. "Must be keeping only a few doors powered for basic nav. Good call on this PENG profile. Woulda been stuck outside otherwise."

The limpet timer ticked down as Maul hastened his pace through the halls, searching for powered doors and using his energylink and arc cutter when necessary to bypass particularly aggravating sections. After what seemed like an hour but in truth was only 25 minutes, he'd finally barged through a door that led to a brightly lit room. Suddenly, a familiar blue haze and accompanying hum and buzz of an atmo barrier graced his senses. The suits sensors took a moment to adjust to the brightness displayed on the screen within the helmet but his new enhanced eyes adjusted to their shift almost instantly, proving again that Lambast's investment was not for nothing. The helmet quickly retracted and Maul could breath a little easier now. A brief look around the room was enough to determine exactly where he had wound up.

"Well fuck me runnin'." He said, finding himself in a main hall of sorts and surrounded by a slew of workers. A couple turned to look at him, giving him a perplexed look. Understandably so as a stranger who just popped out of room labeled with a giant red holo X above the door, a place workers were not permitted to go. Maul nearly panicked when he recalled that he was on a pirate owned fleet carrier. For all the workers knew, he was one of Vodan's crew and seeing as none of them were around...

"Look at me like that again and I'll pluck those beady fucks out your noggin, you hear? Boss is paying you to work, not ogle the crew."

Whether Vasil heard that or not, Maul was very aware that he could not break character now to inform him of what had happened. He was a pirate now. A pirate who desperately needed to find a way to the command deck, steal some info and get out quickly.

Sucking beer out of a packet and pawing over budget spreadsheets in the half-wrecked hull of a small carrier wasn't what Vodan had envisioned for his middle age. By now, he should have been the equivalent of an admiral sitting back in a chair so big it could be called a throne on a megaship far way from the unwashed roughnecks. But peeon management was his lot right now, so he better get on with it if he wanted to be fat old, bad tempered Vodan giving orders to hard pressed captains any time soon.

One of the many screen around him displayed the names of people opening doors on the carrier. Fumbling the ball at the touch line for his recent big play, had a few of his crew thinking they could do a better job, so it paid Vodan to be a little paranoid right now. There was a name that had appeared on the secure door list a few times now. That usually meant one of the workers was looking for a quiet place to have a smoke or slack off work for a while, but this name was Helen Tam and she never slacked off. She didn't need to because she was in charge of fixing the Anansi.

"Da fuck she doin here?" Vodan asked himself putting aside his data pad. "Bitch better not be looking for a reason to renegotiate the contract"

Scrolling down the list of names with one hand, Vodan called Helen with the other. She didn't answer, so his call went to message. Being as Vodan was the one paying miss Thunder Thighs, she could fuckin well take his call, so he tried again, and again with the same outcome.

This time he left a message. Oi you Fff" he was going to say fat-assed bovine, but as she could make the repairs take as long as she wanted if Vodan gave her too much shit, so he settled on "fforman. What you poking you nose into now? A deal is a deal, and I'm not paying you one red cred for a new hole you've found. Got it? Just get me back in the sky, ya hear?"

He had more to say, but he was looking for her on the security feeds, and couldn't spot her. No surprise really, she going everywhere according to how many times her pass had been used.

Welp, he wasn't leaving the safety of his nest. At least Vodan still had people to deal with this sort of thing. He made another call.

"Bell? Helen is sniffing around the Anansi. Find her and bring her to me will ya? She's somewhere at the core systems under repair "Said Vodan running his finger down the list of the most recent doors operated by her "or the cargo receiving bay"

Receiving bay? There was a lot of carrier between the distributer cluster Helen Tam had entered, and cargo control where her clearance had also been used a short time after. Thinking about it, she could get there in the time that had elapsed, but she'd have to be bookin it, and Helen Tam didn't strike Vodan as the type of woman that was ever in a hurry. Even if there was cake involved.

It was like there were two people using Helen Tam's clearance.

Vasil muted his side of the comm when he heard Maul threaten to enucleate someone for looking at him. Maul had obviously come across one or more people and did not need Vasil on the comm screwing up his bluff. A vid feed from Maul’s suit would have helped Vasil understand what was happening, but it would create too much overhead on an already tenuous connection.

The Umbrella continued following the station’s flight pattern of departing ships, always keeping the Anansi in its primary sensor arc. Now and then a ship in the pattern would blink out of normal space and another leaving the station would join the slow carrousel of ships orbiting the station prior to departure. So far he’d not drawn any attention. The flight path was not full of departing ships, but that could change at any moment. If it did, flight control would immediately wonder why the Umbrella had spent so much time floating around the station without leaving.

Vasil checked the estimated battery time for the Deathtrap. Another minute clicked away. Somehow, the name did not seem so amusing anymore.
19 Oct 2024, 1:10am
Changing his demeanor and attitude to fit the role he'd found himself in was working well enough for now. He paced through the area looking over the shoulders of workers while trying to find any sort of direction to the command deck. After meandering around for a while, he casually shot down a hallway towards a lift. As he approached a screen near the doors stuttered to life that listed what floors the lift would go to, with the command deck among them. Maul rapidly pressed the button to call the lift, looking over his shoulder to make sure he was clear before he stepped on. A selection screen mounted to the wall inside had lit up as the weight sensors in the lift discerned that a passenger had stepped on. The outline around the command deck selection was red and greyed out at first but eventually turned green, allowing it to now be selected. "Musta been scanning the profile." He thought as the lift ascended.

The doors slid open with an audible 'woosh' and gave way to a large room full of consoles and terminals. Before entering the room, he activated his helmet again to obscure his face from anyone that may be on the floor. He crept in, peeking around the door to see if anyone was around and to his relief, it was empty other than the security cams visible around the room. Finding and deleting the security footage another problem he'd have to deal with, his face very visible for a while.

He glanced around the room and found a dataport mounted near one of the workstations on the far left of room. Activating the display showed that the alarms were still disabled from when he blackmailed one of Vodan's crew into giving him access.

"Alright Oceane, let's see how you operate." He said as he pulled his sleeve up and uncoiled a wire from the slim arm mounted computer attached to his suit and plugged it into the dataport. After the crew had departed from Mars, he uploaded one version of Oceane that Seraphine had gifted them to a blank Insight data bank and a version of AVA, his own tool, to another for easier access from his suits systems with the added bonus of appearing as an inconspicuous and harmless asset.

"Uhh..."

It quickly became VERY clear that he had no idea how this A.I. tool was supposed to work and regretted not asking more questions when with Seraphine. It had obviously uploaded to the dataport but nothing had happened. That was until he turned around to see that the consoles and terminals in the room had changed to display a new UI.

"Fuck...did it just infect the whole command deck?"

He looked through the small screen on his arm to see that Oceane and AVA had both uploaded when connected to the dataport, though he only called for Oceane. "Did AVA open the doors for Oceane?" He thought to himself but there wasn't much time to ponder on the anomaly.

The screens all had the same text on screen:

"Successful ping!

Connect to home mainframe? Y/N"

That was enough to discern what would happen next if he gave it permission, so he did. The displays changed again showing a progress bar filling up and then flashed to a screen requesting a prompt, one quite similar to the same Ninette had produced before but this time the implications here were more menacing. He requested that she find any mention of or data on the Ophois, Creamy Goodness, Vengerfield, Vasil, Maul, Willow, and Lambast and request the download of all data with mentions of them to be sent to his suits computer storage. The screen fluttered as the A.I. decrypted, analyzed and assembled loads of information faster than any human could ever be capable of.

This was good but still, there was an itch in the back of his mind. He couldn't help but to think of how obvious this much strain on the ships power and network must have appeared to any keen observers.

Judging from the sounds being fed to Vasil over the secure comm, he guessed that Maul had started mining data, or was preparing to do so. A quick check on the distance to the Anansi revealed that the Umbrella’s flight path was moving away from the carrier and toward extreme comm range. In a few minutes he might not have a reliable connection until the orbit brought him back into range ten minutes later.

To buy more time, Vasil lowered the ship’s speed with a few quick bursts of the maneuvering jets.

Unsure if Maul was in a place where it was safe to speak, Vasil sent two quick clicks over the comm to catch Maul’s attention followed by a text.

In? The girls OK?

"No Bell, Tam and someone using Tam's profile I guess" Vodan explained to his first officer, who seems reluctant to leave the bar to find a woman that didn't want to talk to Vodan "I'm trying to track their movements by going down the list of doors and elevators Tam's clearance was used to activate. Ah fuck, my screen froze"

Tapping the screen, Vodan continued telling Belladonna about the suspected intruder using Tam's profile. Lucky for him, Tam had chosen to come aboard the Anansi at the same time, or he wouldn't have noticed.

"Bell? Bell, you there?"

All the screens had frozen, and now the coms where down. Just as Vodan was standing up, the lights flickered. Out the large window of his personal quarters Vodan watched the Carrier Service Station also suffer a power fluctuation. What ever had just happened, it was big. All the screen he was using to monitor the security feeds went blank and then lights stabilised, only they were dimmer than they had been before.

Belladonna's voice returned to the coms, but it was a faint chatter, background noise to the one strobing terminal that was still active. Images, text files and video tabs that were being pulled off the Anansi, Vengerfield's fleet network, and galactic web flashed up and disappeared to fast to register. Only the heading on an unfamiliar front end, and the files the search was sorting the information in to were readable.

Ophois, Vengerfield, Vasil, Maul, Willow, Lambast and .. .

"Creamy FUCKING Goodness" Shouted Vodan putting his fist through the screen.

With both shotgun out, Vodan when to find who ever was using Tam's ID.

An alert popped up almost instantly warning Maul that his suits storage devices were full. A quick skim of what had downloaded looked to be utter nonsense; articles on medieval weaponry, poetry, various cartoon characters, lyrics to children's songs, types of trees, etc. Whatever Oceane had done, it caused quite the stir among the ship and perhaps even the repair station itself. Some text displayed on the screen in front of Maul as the power fluctuation appeared to momentarily stabilize.

"Target storage device full...

Remaining data being offloaded to home..."

Vasil Vasilescu

Unsure if Maul was in a place where it was safe to speak, Vasil sent two quick clicks over the comm to catch Maul’s attention followed by a text.

In? The girls OK?

The notification arrived and amidst the panic of trying to decide what was happening. "I'm outta here Vasil, making a beeline for the limpet ASAP!" Maul shouted over the comms, hoping that the message would come through clear enough through the interference.

Before turning tail, he did everything he could to stop whatever Oceane's gargantuan process were doing. Something must have worked as a giant "Process Stalled" alert appeared on screen for a moment before suddenly defaulting back to the basic ship module information that was on screen before the upload. There was no time to erase his steps now, only make new ones.

Back a the lift, he frantically hammered the button a hand full of times to recall it back to hi floor, that was until he realized that someone was likely already on their way to him. He released the pistol from the magholster on his thigh, activated his shields, readied the weapon and waited.

Maul Montresor "I'm outta here Vasil, making a beeline for the limpet ASAP!" Maul shouted over the comms, hoping that the message would come through clear enough through the interference.

Maul’s shout startled Vasil, shattering what had been a smooth operation up until then.. Maul sounded stressed and stressed people sometimes make bad decisions. Vasil had questions but now was not the tie to ask. Understanding the how volatile the situation was growing, Vasil replied quick. Anything else might add pressure to an already stressful situation.

“On the way,” said Vasil, his tone urgent but composed.. “If you need to, find a working pod and eject. I’ll pick you up.”

Vasil acceelerated toward the Anansi while shutting down non essential ship components in preparation for silent running. It was not a matter of if he’d need to cross the security perimeter around the carrier to pick up Maul, but when. The Umbrella was not optimized for stealth and Vasil estimated he might only have a minute or two before the Umbrella started stewing in its own juices. Hopefully it would be enough.

(Continued from here)

I followed Kasumi towards the lift, avoiding any noise in the quiet corridor. The way back took us past the Dining Hall and the Living Quarters again. I stayed alert and focused, remembering the voices we had heard on our way there. This time, however, everything was quiet. Maybe the strangers were somewhere else now, moving through the station...

A little later, we reached the lift. Its metallic doors gleamed in the light, promising a swift ascent to the next floor. But as we stood there, a thought flashed through my mind.

"Wait a minute... what if there's an automatic gun up there too, like the one we encountered on the abandoned space station?"

The memory of that weapon's relentless fire haunted me. Up there was the security station, and a chokepoint like a lift would be an ideal place for such an automated sentry weapon.
24 Oct 2024, 5:30pm
“Well, in that, case …”

I gestured at a shield projector on the belt around my hip. And, in additional demonstration, pulled out my railgun, rather than the assault rifle. Turret or human, it would probably knock it out in one shot.

“Do, you really think… they, did not see us, on a camera, yet?”

It really did feel a little too easy so far. Like they were trying to see how stupid we were to keep going with this, maybe. Or maybe the security guards were just slacking off at their job badly and remotely following that ‘meeting’ about a capital ship arriving.

In either case, we could only really push forward. I moved a hand toward the elevator button, but stopped it short to await approval of my companion.
24 Oct 2024, 9:27pm
"I'm not sure. They probably have seen us," I replied quietly, my eyes darting down the corridor as we stood before the lift. "But it's still all quiet. We need to proceed with caution and stay ready for anything..."

My eyes met hers, and a silent understanding passed between us. I gave a slight nod, signaling her to press the button. Immediately, the lift doors opened with a soft hum, and we stepped inside, bracing ourselves for the ascent. The confined space seemed to close in around us, amplifying the sound of my own breathing - a mix of anticipation and anxiety. The sound of the doors closing with a soft chime added to the suspense.

As the lift began to rise, my mind raced with possibilities of what awaited us at the next stop. Every second felt like an eternity, the tension building with each passing moment. I tightened my grip on my gun, the solid metal a reassuring presence in my hand.

Then the lift slowed, and came to a halt.
24 Oct 2024, 10:05pm
The elevator doors opened, and, keeping my gun pointed forward just in case…

Nothing. At the very least, the corridor directly ahead of us, separated from whatever parts of the section that followed by a closed door, was empty, and there was no obvious visual signs of any defense emplacements, like a hatch in the ceiling. I relaxed the trigger finger slightly, not intending to cause any noise with weapon fire unless strictly necessary.

“Hm… maybe, we are… still good. For now. Want me, to go ahead?”

I was certainly prepared to. And one of us could play bullet shield for the other, but only in a specific order. Just because there wasn’t any security now, didn’t mean it would not spring into action when we went in. Or wouldn’t run into any guards quickly.
25 Oct 2024, 11:05pm
"The silence in this place is eerie somehow. According to the information board in the elevator, this must be where security is. But it doesn't look like it..."

I went a few steps into the corridor, towards the closed door, and paused to listen. Still nothing. We had discovered a laboratory where Helix was being researched and improved, and found clues about a scientist we knew from Lab23. Yet, the rest of our findings didn't suggest it was an active facility. Much of the administration area was abandoned, with most workstations wrapped in foil. Despite encountering a few guards, we hadn't triggered any alarms. There was a nagging feeling that we were missing something crucial.

I glanced back at Kasumi. "Please go ahead. Let's see what's behind that door," I said, my voice barely above a murmur.
25 Oct 2024, 11:11pm
“Ok. And, don’t, speak too soon.”, I said while moving up. “There could, be, a lot… behind that door.”

Since we were back in the corridor confines with no automated defenses in sight, I took my assault rifle back out and, before opening the door, activated my shield. Just in case.

“Ready?”

And I hit the button. If all hell was about to break loose, hopefully we could wrap that up quickly and get comms locked down to delay any calls for help. And alarms, at that, with this being the security station.

The place did feel more abandoned than in active operation… but somehow, I suspected that to be on purpose.

Vasil Vasilescu
Vasil acceelerated toward the Anansi while shutting down non essential ship components in preparation for silent running. It was not a matter of if he’d need to cross the security perimeter around the carrier to pick up Maul, but when. The Umbrella was not optimized for stealth and Vasil estimated he might only have a minute or two before the Umbrella started stewing in its own juices. Hopefully it would be enough.

The lift doors slid open, bringing one of Vodan's men face to face with Maul. Both with arms at the ready and finger on the trigger. The grunt spoke calmly and quietly into his comms still keeping the gun trained on Maul.

"Bell, I think I just found our 'Helen' trying to leave the command deck." He said, stepping closer and out of the lift, forcing Maul to take a few steps back. "You might as well drop it now. There's more on route."

Maul knew there wasn't a chance that he'd be able to fire off enough rounds in quick enough or accurate enough succession to drain the man's shields before his own would be drained by the grunt's AR, so he extended his arm out to the side and tossed his pistol weightlessly out into the open command deck.

"Good." said the grunt, immediately firing a shot now that Maul was unarmed. His shield absorbed it, causing an alert on his helmets HUD to appear as he stepped back from the shock and doubled over. Another shot fired and another absorbed. Maul thought quickly and engaged the microthrusters on his backpack while simultaneously disengaging the maglock in his boots. His body soared quickly toward the grunt, his shoulder colliding against the pirates chest. Both of them propelled into the open elevator with a hard smack against the back wall. Both of their shields completely disrupted from the impact. The feed in Maul's helmet became a scrambled mess. The result of a broken sensor.

He stumbled to his feet while deactivating his helmet and reengaging his magboots. The pirate's boots had locked onto the wall, putting him in an awkward position with knees bent, floating above the surface. He struggled to catch his breath and get his bearings while Maul did the same. Both of them glanced around the lift for any weapon at all but both the AR and pistol were free floating somewhere outside the lift inside the command deck. While the pirate was busy gasping for air, Maul stumbled into the wall near the floor selection screen, hurting his shoulder even more with the jolt. Vasil had mentioned something about using an escape pod which was very quickly starting to look like Maul's most likely chance for escape now. Still addled by the impact, he tried to select the floor he'd came from initially but the pirate had gathered enough of his senses to get Maul in a strangle hold from behind, causing his hand to splat across the screen and hit something at random.

The two stumbled back against the wall again as the lift doors closed and it began to descend. Maul swung back at the grunt's face but only found helmet and hurt himself in the process. Next a groin shot but again he only came in contact with armor. He desperately pulled at the pirates arm, trying to put space between it and his neck. Things began to go dark and his body limp. In a last ditch effort he engaged his packs microthrusters again but they didn't budge. The pirates boots were locked in place. Maul then cranked the power usage of the thrusters, draining his suits battery at a rapid rate. Finally the magnetic lock released, and with the lift swiftly moving downwards towards it's destination and Maul's thrusters now launching them upwards, they crashed into the top of the lift with an absurd amount of force. The pirate's death grip was released as he went limp after the slam. Maul gasped for air as he pushed himself away from the body. The hit appeared to have broken the man's neck. as well as the lift, seeing as it had stopped moving entirely. The whole thing had come to a standstill as fast as it had began.

Maul pushed the body aside and exited the lift through the hatch in the ceiling, free floating upwards towards the first door he seen. With his injuries, it wasn't easy to slide the doors open but after a good amount of effort and some desperation, he had found himself in a med-bay. Luckily, this section looked to be empty and mostly repaired/functional. There even happened to be a few escape pods just down the hall. After limping towards them, grunting with each step and checking if they were operable, he tried the comms again to see if they were even working after everything that had just happened.

"Vasil..." He paused to cough, his voice was noticeably scratchy and weak from the scuffle and in the background his suit warned of low battery. "Keep an eye out for a pod."

Maul smashed one of the buttons above the pod bay that caused a door to hiss open, allowing him to throw himself into one of the escape pods and put the Anansi behind him.
