Elite roleplay: Off station

OFF STATION

Your ship, deep space, anything that is not happening inside the Citi Gateway or Ingaba...

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

"only thing this beast has are mines" Star Lord smiles "It's enough to kill dumb pirates"

he looks around "I have 2 SRVs on board. one has to stay on board to be able to break link between srv and controller if something goes south on board"

After few minutes alert light started flashing in cockpit. Star lord looked around to see planet beneath them literally brake apart showing giant canion with bright light on bottom

A flash and a muffled snap went by and a Python dropped out of supercruise. Beaten up and sputtering to pull itself forward, the ship staggered to comms distance from Citi Gateway. Muninn pinched the bridge of his nose and rubbed the one side of his head now newly shaven, the mop of hair still falling down the other side. He hadn't slept in days and now he was getting a well deserved rest.

Looking up haggardly at his comms panel, he locked on to the station. "Citi Gateway, this is Skojdlr Mike Uniform November. Requesting docking permission to a medium sized pad."

Flicking off his mic he waited for a reply as the control tower scrambled to find a pad to assign him. Rubbing his face he waited as the ship groaned as it tried to catch up with the fact he already powered down the thrusters. His hear pricked as he heard a bang coming from one of the compartments behind him. Turning in the pilots seat he screamed down the hallway. "Shut the fuck up you bitch!!! You ain't getting out till we reach your sentence you fucking back stabbing, manipulating space cow!"

The banging stopped and he was left alone in silence with his thoughts again. Turning again to find the docking computer was actually working he let the ship take him in as he rested his face in his hands and sobbed. Dear gods, why?

--A crater on an undisclosed moon in an undisclosed system--

Simon Mutthawk, owner and pilot of the T6 freighter the Pork Chop Express felt the pain in his head pound like a pirate's multi-cannon rounds hitting hull.

"Ahh... Shit! Did it again." he muttered to himself as he rolled over onto his chest and pushed himself up to his knees.

He crawled over to where is artificial cigar rested, picking it up and popping it into his mouth, taking a big drag. Water vapor billowed out as he dragged himself to his feet. He looked around, the corridoor behind the Chop's cockpit that led to his cabin and the rest of the ship. He had gotten so drunk the previous night he hadn't even made it to his cabin. He bit down on his cigar's nozzle and entered his cabin. His cot hadn't been made the last time he slept in it. He sighed and stripped, stepping into his fresher for a quick hydrosonic shower.

10 minutes and a fresh jumpsuit later. He was sat in the Chop's pilot seat, completing a quick pre-flight. Three days ago, he had recieved a message from an unknown person who said they had some trade data that could prove very lucrative. He was to meet this person on a starport three jumps from his location. He was 400 light years away when he got the message so after a few hours of jumping he decided to refuel from the star and land on this lifeless moon and bed down, assisted by a bottle of Lavian Brandy. Feeling fresher now, he fired up the thrusters and took off from the crater he was parked in, raising landing gear he throttled up, pitched starward and hit the boosters. When he was out of mass lock he entered supercruise and navigated around the planet towards his next jump vector.

"Thanks for having me" he said before firing up his FSD and jumping outsystem.

((Just to add, not trying to create my own story. Feel free to manipulate me in any way you see fit))

Stryker had never been to Sol. The birthplace of humanity. He had heard about it, and even learned about it despite growing up on a backwater Imperial planet. Though he was sure what he learned had an Imperial slant to it. He didn’t have a permit to enter the system, but he knew that Commander Hail would provide one for him.

He had landed his ship on some dusty speck of a world. Low gravity was better then no gravity, but still not ideal. He stood in front of a mirror, wearing only a pair of shorts practicing posing. Stryker had seriously thought about competing on the stage, but life just kept getting in the way. Instead he used it as an evaluation of what areas he needed to work on. To keep symmetry and all that lot.

When he was finished, he took some time to relax. Sitting back in a comfortable chair, the large bodybuilder turned on a holovid, just to fill the air with background noise, and picked up the needlepoint he was working on. The pattern was wretched. Downright ugly and he lamented for a moment that he should have at least taken a moment to pick out a design instead of randomly choosing one. His large metallic claw picked up the needle and started working with it. Stryker was satisfied that he was getting better with fine motor control. He went a full five minutes before breaking it. A new personal record. He sighed. All he could do at the moment was wait for Commander Hail to provide that permit and until then he would have to make the best use of his time.

<Incoming Priority Message>

The loud beep rudely awoke Rebecca from her sleep.

3:21 showed the big digital clock over the door.

She groaned as she rolled over her bed in the captains cabin towards the small nightdesk her mobile terminal was on. After two unsucessful tries to activate it, she opened her second eye too, grabbed the small device and held it in front of her face.

"Identification: Hail. Open message." she said loudly.

The message itself only consisted of a single line.

"Where is the person you recommended? Y."

For a moment she looked confused, then she navigated through her files.

'Aune, Alvadr'

Slowly she scrolled down, looking for location data provided by Prism 42, when her gaze fell on the 'Federal system permits' line. The words 'None issued' resolved the mystery about Strykers.

Feeling like a moron, she began typing.

"My fault, forgot to issue him a permit. Could you, please? Icy."

Then she fell back on her bed. 3:25 showed the clock over the cabin door.

Annoyed about only having another 2 hours to sleep before she had to report to high command, she closed her eyes and tried to sleep.

Stryker layed in his bunk. The evening had been a bit restless. His mind was a whirl of thoughts and emotions. He thought about where he was in life. It was better then where he was a few years ago, but falling in with a crowd of pirates.... What did he want from his life? His mind changed gears. He started thinking about Evy again. He missed her and her company. Life was more lonely without her. Then he thought about Rebecca. He did like her. She was a no nonsense kind of gal, but he had no shot at her. She was military. Career at that. She had her husband.

He sighed and pulled the sheets off his bulky yet naked frame. The bodybuilder took slow steps out of his quarters and ran his fingers along the bulkhead of his ship. He made his to the cockpit. The door slid open and he sat in the high back chair. He looked out towards the red dusty horizon. A massive carbon star with its impressive rings slowly rose over the horizon casting a dim purple glow about the cabin. To his left, the blue gas giant with its rings hung in the dark sky.  It was beautiful. But deadly and that made him think about Rebecca again.

"Incoming priority message." The sharp voice pulled him out of his thoughts. He accused the message.

Speak of the devil... Stryker thought. The message contained an encrypted permit for him to enter Sol. He was thankful and plotted the route and calculated the time he would arrive at Mars. He could get another 4 hours of sleep. He knew he wasn't going to, but he could rest. He leaned back into the chair and called up some quite instrumental music and closed his eyes.

After a rather slow and uneasy departure from the station, Ten, Nick, and Cartidge all finally managed to leave Citi Gateway without detection.

"This thing is a lot smaller than I expected," Cartlidge said as he entered the cockpit. Nick was just about to start the ship's FSD.

"Thanks for pointing out the obvious, cyclops," Nick replied. "We'll head to your home station and pick up one of your other ships. Until things cool down, getting your FDL would be suicide."

"I'm aware. Let's get going. There's a new ship I've been looking to try out."

Hercules had never been one for shipping junk around the void, the rinse and repeat of it all grated on him. The endless repetition of the ships computer worked like a drill at his very soul as he longed for a bit of action and conflict.
That said the mysterious transmission at Novas had been to intriguing to simply ignore.

It was a strange encounter to behold, at least a dozen of the Galaxies toughest ships, bristling with weapons and glowing under the weight of some of the best mods space has to offer, all still, nose to nose in a silent stand off. Yet all that power on display but no shots fired, one of the rare occasions where status and career were on hold as we all tried to work out how to act on this strange instruction.

That felt like an age ago now and the thought of shipping Vericide and all it could be used for was sitting uneasy on his conscience, no matter how many credits it was racking in.

A look at the sensor array snapped him from his revery "A Haz Res, change course, drop in and deploy hardpoints, its time we got back to what we do best"

"Gunner you see anything out there?"

"yes boss, looks Imperial straight ahead......Whoooo I smell blood boys n girls, lets go"

"GUNNER, HOLD UP, make sure you've scanned, we ain't here to make ourselves a target"

"Stay frosty Cmdr, its a goddam Imp Eagle, we shit tougher ships than that" BRRRRRR BOOM BOOM

"OH crap its no Eagle, thats a god damn Clipper, and she's swinging right at us"

"I TOLD YOU TO HOLD OFF AND WATCH THE SCAN, IF WE GET OUT O...................."

CANOPY COMPROMISED......FRAMESHIFT DRIVE CHARGING.......4.....3......2......

There is nothing worse then being caught in your own mind, making jump after jump. Stryker had become agitated and restless. He couldn't calm his thoughts. Again his mind bounced back and forth between Evy, Rebecca, the Empire. the Federation. His old home. His sister. It was driving him mad, and he couldn't get away from it.

He piloted his ship and came to Bernard's Star. One more jump. He called up the navigation panel and plotted his course to Sol. He entered the the system permit information that had been provided by Commander Hail and submitted it. He watched the working indicator turn and turn. It seemed to take ages and with each passing moment, he was becoming more convinced that the permit wouldn't clear. He shook his head.

"Permit accepted." came that cool computer voice. He sighed and flipped the toggle to engage the Frame Shift Drive.
"Frame shift...." It started to say but Stryker interrupted in a momentary fit of rage "I FUCKING HATE YOU! SHUT THE FUCK UP!" He was going to rip out the voice modual at his next earliest convenience.

Sol popped up and he took a look at it. It looked like some other ordinary star. Some how he thought it would be more grand in his mind. He turned the ship over and made his way to Mars. He was surprised by sheer number of ships flying around. Not to mention system security. And the Federation Navy. He would have to be careful.

Mars approached. The blue planet grew closer and closer. The massive sprawling cities was a sight. He brought the ship into its atmosphere and made his way to Olympus Village. The huge bodybuilder was stunned to see how massive the buildings were. All touching the sky. The lights, the traffic, it was all a new experience.

"You are cleared to land on pad 15." It was the Starport's Actual. Stryker chose one that was on the outskirts of town. Hopefully one that would not draw attention. He brought the ship down. A few minutes later he was making his way down the gangplank. First thing first. Requisition transportation, then find some work jumper to blend in. The Starport provided the transportation in the form of a rental, the local surplus store supplied the latter. He stepped out of the store affixing a brimmed hat to his head. He could not find jumpers large enough for him so the thing was tight on his muscular body.

He drove to the parliament district to the museum. It was.....tricky. He had never experienced so much traffic. But he found parking. He made his way over to the employee entrance and spoke to the guard. He hoped Rebecca wasn't setting him up. "Icy sent me." Is all he said.
12 Nov 2016, 4:20pm
The guard looked at him for a few seconds, then he stepped aside without saying a word the door opened itself.

Inside was a long corridor with many doors which ended in front of several elevator doors. The elevator on the left opened as Stryker could see along the corridor.
