The Stellar Forge part (the engine that generates the galaxy and systems) is based on hard science (bugs and limitations notwithstanding), and the Odyssey terrain generation engine also makes an honest attempt to be science-based. The overall design of space stations is also fairly realistic, AFAICT. And, well… that’s about it.

And then you make your spaceship do woosh sounds and shoot visible lasers that only go a few km

I think the generator for the skybox is so cool and I think frontier did an incredible job, but it's pretty fair to look at things objectively too.

Yeah, that’s what I meant by “that’s about it”. There are parts that are based on hard science, and then there are parts that are screaming “it’s just a game” quite loudly.

Indeed, nothing quite says "this is a video game" like outsourcing your ground oic to a walk-in like it was an on demand air b&b app! Lol

Hi, Read that Raxxla theory. Talk about a deep mission/objective (especially if it would work).
Elite continues to impress when it comes to it's depth.

Don't... just... don't!

...

No, of course go for it!!!

Hi Rawnu Seriously I'm laughing... Don't...just... don't! But what the hell, go for it even though there'd be nothing but a corpse sitting at this keyboard at the end .
Just returning to Elite after diving down the well of Star Citizen (and a short trial of StarField) and realizing how deep and complete Elite is. Played for years on PS4 pro and reset to PC but lost everything and started over. Elite doesn't get the credit it deserves, it's actually complete and goes farther than my imagination goes.
Nothing is impossible, make it up and you never know or die trying . no, of course go for it made me truly LOL.
Recently have been trying out TCE MK 2 which threw me in here.
Be well and keep up that sense of humor.

That's the thing: Elite is a fully developed game, with a sh*tton of gameloops and mechanics that all work and surprisingly few bugs (the occasional stuck FSD jump screen because of server load). It has also a fully developed and varied lore, making all these claims by some of "miles wide, inches deep" ridiculous. You don't need to dive into the backstory to enjoy the game, but if you do you see the Elite galaxy with different eyes. So fly dangerous, Commander!

Raxxla is real, it is...

The bug fest I witnessed trying to give a friend of mine a multicrew ride to a Thargoid-attacked starport, or when we had a 'Guardian ruins picnic', kind of makes it hard to believe these words are true. Though, most of that was caused by the poor networking/instancing implementation, not the game mechanics.

But I agree on the backstory note, it gives you a heckload of instruments to have fun with, and not only in the game itself, but also like roleplaying or fanfic writing.

And sometimes the pictures are quite nice.

That's very true, multicrew and if lots of people are in one instance is causing some issues. And the more popular the game gets (again), the more pressing these issues will be for Frontier to solve. But what I meant was that, unlike Star Citizen, you are not trapped in elevator for no reason or can't enter or exit your ship For a game of its complexity, Elite works pretty well and gives you a smooth experience most of the time (unless its rollout day for a big update or a general Thursday, go touch grass on Thursday's).

What I really enjoy is the different stuff you can do. And if you feel like it, you can just go lore hunting and take sweet pictures along the way

Rawnucan't enter or exit your ship
Why, just why... Why did you say that?

So, ran into exactly this kind of buggery tonight. Two players in a PG, and in a team. Two ships. Landed on a planet next to each other, disembarked, did fun stuff on foot. Then returned, only to see that we can't enter our own ships, as there was no Brabenportation circle on the ground for the ship owners. An attempt to enter each other's ships caused error screens on both sides. Dismissing and recalling didn't help either, so had to call Apex.

(I also managed to get stuck in an SRV in a roof, but that's another story... Lol)

Did you try to go through the main menu, using the "stuck recovery" option? That usually solves these problems and puts you in your ship into orbit. Not sure why that happened though. I never encountered it but heard from other people that sometimes, this occurs.

Rawnuusing the "stuck recovery" option
Aw, thank you. Completely forgot about its existence, it helped me a couple times a long ago, but now I have no real use for it. May try next time. But, yeah, in general, doing something together in a PG is full of Frontier Brand Suffering.

Sooo about that Raxxla theory on Reddit:

Some folks are attempting to test it and bring down Mother Gaia in Sol. They are down 3.4% or so in the past 6 days. The Sol Workers' Party will overtake the by the end of next week, if the pressure is kept up. Let's kick our feet back and relax and watch!

Raxxla is something intangible; it is the human drive to seek knowledge, to explore the unknown, to chase legends, and to discover the hidden.

All explorers are part of Raxxla, as are the things they seek, real or imagined. They have names Magellan, Roald Amundsen, Voyager, El Dorado, the Holy Grail, Unified Field Theory, and so on.

So, look no farther than yourself for the Raxxla.

I have another system that is key to unlocking Raxxla when they finish up with Sol
I totally mean it and im not at all trying to steal the man power of all these hyped Raxxla hunters burning up Sol for my own purposes

I'm all for it, whatever your motives are. The main thing is that it keeps people away from the real Raxxla.
