I'm not a politician and I don't really ascribe to any of the super powers or anything else, just seems to be a hassle to complicate my day (I'm sure it has it's benefits and downfalls, but I haven't yet investigated that fully either).
However people who do nothing but haul rocks for a living can still develop bad attitudes and make poor decisions.
It's not that that is all they do, there are plenty of good people too, but what can happen to one person can happen to another; regardless of social standing, upbringing, lifestyle, or discipline.
Galactic Scale, ship scale, personal scale, it can happen to any of us at any time, and even more so possible with lack of information/miss-information.
The more you are in charge of/watching over, the more often and easier it is for things to go wrong as there are more points of interest piling on "their own 2 cents" of influence.

Could it happen? Sure. But a lot has to happen first before we get to that point.

Rebecca HailWell, as a patriotic citizen of the Federation™, I wouldn't mind if the Empire would mind its own business and let us have our fun with the rest.
I would say the same to some of the Fed pirates that come attacking Imperial space lanes.

LeytraSo, in universe. Are opals actually any use as a material or just a typical human case of 'oooh, shiny, me want'?
As they are new materials, I'd suggest "oysters/clams in space" lol... obviously opals are not the same as pearls, but it's a good analogy.
Maybe we can get hints from factions that send us out to mine them, they might tell us what they need them for, but they might just be "go get 'em, tiger."

WilliamReaceIn other news, CMDR (WETTOAST) Wanda Fersegi has apparently found a space anemone living on an asteroid (or maybe it's a space urchin?), and posted a shot of it too.

It's one of those gourd things , I didn't discover it I just decided to take some photos of it

Haha
I've no idea who found it first, nor do I rally need to know, but I am kinda sure that the new codex thing they put in would help guide us to that answer if we really wanted to know.

Discovered or not it's still a pretty cool image and thanks for posting it. Odd looking thing. I wonder if you would shoot it a million tiny space spiders would have come running out of it? I think I saw a movie like that once.
