Suki HaiThat actually happens, but it's just too quick for you to notice. That last glimpse of space you see before the rebuy screen is your view out of the escape pod window.

You're probably right about that.
And, I dunno, Suki's cute.

Damon8r351What would a handheld weapon in the Elite universe be like? Any time I've needed a personal weapon to make an appearance, I've just wrote "sidearm" and left it deliberately vague. Lasers, small railguns, flechettes, chemically propelled rounds still?
The EDRPG corebook illustrates a handful of different weapons of varying types, utilizing everything from standard ballistic ammo to lasers and plasma. You've got your submachine guns, assault rifles, handguns, rocket launchers, "assault beamers" (essentially the laser equivalent of a minigun) and so on.
I think there's enough wiggle room in the lore that you can justify creating a weapon of your own design, as I imagine human space is full of small arms manufacturers across systems. And I'd say there's enough wiggle room for some rather outrageous designs too, as there's a few guns in the EDRPG corebook that border on the ridiculous in terms of features. For example: the Cauldus Nerve-blocker Laser Pistol's description is as follows.
An unsuccessful attempt at producing a ‘stun’ laser, the Cauldus Nerve-blocker short circuits the body’s nervous system, sending the victim into a temporary spasm. A solid hit will cause the target to lose all balance and bodily control, falling to the floor, their weapon clattering out of reach. Sadly the side-effects of this weapon include inducing an occasional cardiac arrest.
There's more ridiculousness, of course, but... you see where I'm going with this.

Weaponry: Her only personal armament is a small plasma repeater pistol. Her pistol has a few settings; single shot, burst, and full auto; as well as stun, low power, and overcharge shot mode. Instead of ammo, her pistol uses a heatsink based system which must be vented after every "mag" is used to prevent injury to the wielder.
I felt it fit the universe well enough to work, and was versatile enough to get away with without her becoming a walking armoury.

For projectiles, the favoured item would be the MagMax 8mm solid slug. Nice weight, good clip, magnetic launch 1000ms-1 HV round (atmospheric conditions may affect this). Caveat: extreme caution advised if using within a ship.
For persuading the unruly in a more personal way the Jangler™ rarely fails. Bought a novelty one in the shape of a hammer once, in the Dockside Green Market on Abetti Vison in Kholu. Worked a bit more effectively than I was used to though...
So, G (loving the blue lips by the way), how do you get the plasma to stun? Every time I've used one of those things everything gets that all-over tan look.

Damon8r351I may/may not need a fireteam of Alliance Defence Force Naval Infantry to attempt (perhaps unsuccessfully) an EVA boarding of a pirate Clipper out in the heliosheath of [TBD] system, so I needed to know what to put in their hands during the pre-mission equipping montage while looking like less of a fool than I usually do. Some form of scaled down plasma repeater/rifle might be in order. Ballistic/kinetic weapons are...inadvisable aboard a pressurized spaceship. Something good sci fi should always remember. Thanks for the help.
I dunno, "Drop your guns or we'll breach hull and let our SAR sort it out!" might be effective.

I'm thinking like how Tanks can withstand sidearms for days.
