Subjective:
Patient reports to clinic complaining of burns and difficulty breathing. He is an explorer affiliated with the Lodge and a part-time employee of UC security. Onset of symptoms s/p exploration of three extreme planets including exposure to deadly levels of solar radiation and temperatures ranging from -200 to 200 degrees. Patient has some first-aid training and attempted initial treatment of hypothermia symptoms with Rx strength injectors. Patient declines blood testing, despite disclosure that these tests are critical for care.
Objective:
- Blisters, hands, bilat.
- Confusion, sluggish tracking of light
- Signs of shock
- Difficulty breathing
- Fever, 104
- swelling and infected tissue on back, agitated by heavy equipment and spacesuit
Assessment:
- Burns
- Acute Hypothermia
- Cellulitis
- Radiation poisoning
Plan:
- Given diffuse acute symptoms, recommend 24h monitored infusion of panacea, q4h.
- following discharge, 48h supervised bedrest, bland foods and frequent hydration.
- patient's colleague, Sarah Morgan, will aid in application of topical salves q6h until lesions begin healing. She is certified in applied botanical research with MAST and is cleared to administer natural remedies in tandem with prescribed medications.
- RTC for routine suture of wounds when infected tissue resolves.
- Ordered consultation to hazardous occupation and prolonged exposure (HOPE) specialty clinic for routine care.
