The Open Democracy Initiative Network's founding and mission is really the success story of many independent groups, pilots and reformers of many stripes. The common theme is the support of Republics and Democracy everywhere. Perhaps that's a small republic within Federation fighting to break the corporate stranglehold on freedom and political integrity which has long afflicted the Congressional proceedings in Sol. Or perhaps it is seen in the halls of some tiny parliamentary committee where the future of their membership in the Alliance is discussed in worried tones as the members struggle to see how Mahon's policies of binding his coalitions with corporate ties will lead to any eventuality other than the same road the Federation walked. Or again, it may be an intrepid and unlikely partnership of pilots, statesmen and aristocrats, all true sons of the Empire, questioning whether the Imperial Senate truly represents the people any more or has it become a tool of the autocrats? In many cases the Network was certainly just the result of several remote and independent democracies searching one another out for mutual defense. But it also a grassroots movement within the superpowers and other population centers to seek out internal reforms, avoid a senseless interstellar war and come to the aid of those whom the big power players have trod under in their mad thirst for glory.
