Inara updates, bug reports, requests
When you try to link your accounts, you may receive the http error 400 about expired tokens. It's an issue on Frontier's end that I cannot solve on Inara. Fortunately, the solution is simple - please give it a few days and it will start to work later (probably when the access token on their cAPI server expires). If the error 400 appeared later and it worked before, try to reauthenticate as said in the error message (may be just a regular reauth forced by Frontier). Alternatively, you can try to use the workaround below. If even that won't work, it's the problem described above.
Please vote for the issue on the official bug tracker: https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/21258
Possible workaround: Try to connect the account while you are in the game. It may work.
Game data and imports not available for console commanders and PC players with Legacy game version
Inara supports only the Live game version (so PC Horizons 4.0 and Odyssey) since game update 14, thus all the game data on the site and the commander data imports work only for those game versions.

ArtieIt's a valuable feedback, not offending at all, thanks!
Hey, and thanks for not taking a defensive approach to my comments
Artie
- About the busy menu: was it caused by the amount of items there or that there should be more space between the items (like slightly bigger line height)?
A little difficult to describe in words - I just struggled to find stuff instantly. And this felt odd to me because I would class myself more as a power user than anything else.
I don't think it was the spacing. Possibly also the number of items - but then if we reduced that we'd be reducing our options/functionality too.
Initially possibly the slight wait needed for the menu to open before the flow can continue, or the animation itself being distraction to the flow.
Possibly that all of a sudden I had to switch focus from a single horizontal menu to several column menus with many items each. It felt like the "flow" of navigation slowed down at this point, while I looked through everything to find what I needed. Perhaps and probably this would improve with familiarity.
Possibly making the columns a little more distinct from each other would help? I know currently each sub column header already has its own background, but perhaps giving each column a border or alternating shade of background colour, or perhaps doing that to the column rows might help?
The menu just felt very chunky with lots to look through. I guess in the existing site the main horizontal menu represents categories with the side navigation offering contextual pages. I rely heavily on my own custom shortcuts for deep-links too, so everything is very fast. In the new menu, all options are offered in the same space so it felt busy.
For reference, my custom shortcuts are:
STARS
STATIONS
NEAREST
COMMUNITY GOALS
|
MY CREDITS
MY REPUTATION
MY MISSIONS LOG
MY FLIGHT LOG
|
MY FLEET
MY STORED MODULES
|
MY INVENTORY
SYNTHESIS
|
ENGINEERS
BLUEPRINTS
MY CRAFTING
I appreciate the above feedback is feedback without giving any helpful suggestions, so I apologise for that.

- I am not sure what you mean by show/hide menu feature. There is meant that the top menu was opening although you just wanted to click the main menu category or something else?
I mean the way the menu appears when you mouse over a heading in the horizontal bar. Probably more my fault as I kept moving my mouse over it by mistake, and then it would hide main page content. As both are a similar colour it got a bit confusing at first, but this is less of a problem the more I've used it.
I don't think there is a worth while workaround to this - requiring a click to open the menu would be adding too much work to the user.
Artie
- About the section/boxes distinguishion - was it for the desktop resolution (multiple columns) or mobile resolution (one column)?
Primarily desktop, yeah.
In the current website, for example, the News and Galaxy pages present a LOT of information - but this is easy to follow or find at a glance because each section is so well defined with distinct borders, graphical headers, sub header titles and so on. In contrast, the various sections on corresponding pages of the development version feel a lot more blended together and similar styles.
Thank you for your work and efforts in improving this great site for us all.

BL1PHi Artie,
The Avatar Images in in the thargoid war report pages are cut on the edges.

Which makes my avatar read

YOU
Yeah, the avatars are covering the whole size of the widget so they may get cut. For most it's good enough, but I may take a look on that later on.
Reise AmatinI have a QoL suggestion/request if it hasn't been made yet. When you run a search for stations, it would be helpful if the station is a fleet carrier to display its docking status (open/friends only/closed) so we could get a quick summary as to whether we could dock without having to inspect each carrier individually.
New interface has so far been great! Thanks for this fantastic tool.
I will rather put a similar option like for the commodity search to exclude carriers without "Docking: All" and "Docking: All updated recently" from the list completely. I guess it will be better to not have unsuitable fleet carriers in the list at all?
HuboHi Artie,
I have found another bug. I am not able to change the order of the ships at the commander fleet page using the touch or pen.

It should be fixed, thank you for the report.

Thank you for the details. The menu has small delays to prevent accidental opening/closing on unwanted mouse movements, but I just made it a little bit tighter to increase a feel of immediate response and hopefully it won't trigger the other problem of oversensitive controls. Let's see.
The rest of the feedback noted. Actually, I was on the edge with the graphical headers as it has its advantages and disadvantages, it was a tough choice to get them off, but I will think about some other options how to distinct the sections a little bit more.

For example, the "My fleet" page. In the old UI, I can see 12 ships without scrolling. In the new UI, I can see 4. There's just huge amounts of wasted space everywhere. I get that you need bigger buttons if you're using a smartphone, but I'm not using a smartphone - I'm using a PC. Is it possible to get the CSS closer to the old look for browsers operating at desktop resolutions, and switch to the "ooh, look at the big buttons" UI for smartphones?

EmpyriusIn the best trade routes when sorting by best profit it sorts based on profit/unit. Could we allow sorting based on profit/hr or profit/trip?
The profit per trip has a same order as profit per unit, but I will add the profit per hour sorting there, good idea.
Easy GliderJust found something missing from the new Inara. It doesn't show the alterative reputation gaining methods for the engineers. It would be nice to have this back for convenience.
Thank you for the report, it was an oversight and now it's fixed.
Co'hen MacBainSorry Artie, but I have to say that I'm really not a fan of the new UI on PC. On any given page, if I switch from "old" to "new" UI, I feel like I just set my screen resolution to 800 x 600. Everything takes up three times more space, especially vertically

I understand, but I had my reasons for that and it was not just because I told myself: "Let's make everything bigger and let users scroll for no reason, it will be fun."
The most used and most frequent pages like searches should have similar or less scrolling than before, but I admit some other pages may have more scrolling than before. There is currently no plan for optional scaling at the moment, I am afraid. But many things are just a matter of habit, give it a chance and you will see...
Cpt CrazyglueGetting used to new version, SLOWLY, but like it so far... I miss CMDR icon in top right corner though as it assured me I was logged in to my account.. Anyway to import the holo-me data? Also will anything be done to streamline switching between multiple Frontier accounts? Inara will not accept (far as I know) different CMDR names on same E-mail address. Please don't get me wrong, i LOVE your site & can't imagine having to play Elite without you on second screen... Thankx more than you could know.......
Yep, I needed to get the name in the corner away, as it sometimes can be very long and cropping it looked weird. There are no game output for the holo-me, so no import is possible. Having the multiple game accounts/profiles for one Inara account is something I would like to do. I just need to finish the account and game profile(s) separation and for that I need to have old Inara gone (I need to do database structure and other internal changes and I definitely do not want to do the work twice, for the new and old version). So it will still take some time.

Please try again, it seems the previous solution wasn't working very reliable and it should be hopefully better now.

Pyrotech_750There seems to be an issue with the missing components for engineering etc not updating with the new version. Seems to be updating correctly if you revert to the old version.
That's odd, because both are using the very same data/database table and I also see no inconsistency between the outputs. Please check if there isn't some old cached page hanging in your browser, you can try to reload the page to be sure. Otherwise please send me screenshots of both versions you see and I will check what may be going on.

I have cleared my cache, tried several different laptops and tables. The results are all the same.
Please advise how I can send you screenshots
