Inara updates, bug reports, requests
When you try to link your accounts, you may receive the http error 400 about expired tokens. It's an issue on Frontier's end that I cannot solve on Inara. Fortunately, the solution is simple - please give it a few days and it will start to work later (probably when the access token on their cAPI server expires). If the error 400 appeared later and it worked before, try to reauthenticate as said in the error message (may be just a regular reauth forced by Frontier). Alternatively, you can try to use the workaround below. If even that won't work, it's the problem described above.
Please vote for the issue on the official bug tracker: https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/21258
Possible workaround: Try to connect the account while you are in the game. It may work.
Game data and imports not available for console commanders and PC players with Legacy game version
Inara supports only the Live game version (so PC Horizons 4.0 and Odyssey) since game update 14, thus all the game data on the site and the commander data imports work only for those game versions.

EpisparhI am not a fan of hoover action and menu items/sub-menu items on Desktop. I hope you do not drop the support for the old UI, Artie.
I do hope so too Artie.
I like current site more.
Elite is a game played on desktop computers and the new version feels like its a mobile app = not good from the mouse using user.
The existing site is perfect for what we need it to be, excellent work.
Would it be possible to add all the new bells and whistles to the existing site layout ?
That way, the users will have the option to use them if they want to.
Thank you.

One thing I love was the community goal tracking and the charts and personal contribution. Is that still tracked and displayed?

DragoCubXArtieshuffleQSo first impressions are very good, just one thing:
the custom menu bar was such a timessaver and I do not want to miss it, would it be possible to get that back?
Very likely not, or at least not in the previous form. Are there particular things that are now much slower to reach for you?
So, I mainly use Inara for BGS/faction management and occasionally to look at my CMDRs general stats, fleet etc.
The missing custom links are the biggest offender to me - it's such an ingenuous idea, I get direct access to what I frequently use.
On top of that comes the fact some of these custom links aren't even there in the new version apparently. The most important one being the shortcut to the squadron factions. Now I apparently have to go Squadron - About - click one of the factions - land on the faction page. And if I want to switch to one of our other supported factions, I now have to go back one page so I can select it, instead of it just being there ready to click on the left hand.
Thanks for the feedback, good points! I have added back the related minor factions to the squadron front page and I will think about something to make the switching between factions easier. I generally do not want to put same stuff to multiple places as it was quite confusing people, so maybe some quick links on minor faction page to switch between your squadron-related factions will help with that?
About the own faction(s) stations/assets - are you looking at them frequently? Is there some particular reason for that, like tracking the changes after conflicts, etc.?

Yes I have the full width menu (not collapsed) and can see all 1st level items.
You did a great job with the sub-menu by combining 2nd and 3rd Level.
Problem is the need to hover (counts same as a click, it's a collapsible menu).
Hiding the menu also removes the visual feedback from the 2nd and 3rd level location (sub-nav and side-nav highlights on the old website). Breadcrumbs alone don't provide enough feedback to the user about their location and what else they can access.
...
I see, so rather more about the loss of orientation. Thanks for the details, it was very useful! I had something on my mind before, maybe it will be good to make it after all (please see below).
EmpyriusI appreciate the work you put in and the mobile version looks great.

Yes, it should be still visible/tracked on the community goal page. Do you see that here or it's missing (it shouldn't, but better to be sure)? I cannot double check that at the moment as I do not participate in the current goals, but will replicate the issue if that's missing for you.

I can say for sure that the old site version won't be dropped this or next week. Very likely not even this month. But I will need at some point to drop it, because it will start to drag me down or block some work and it will become a burden. I however do not want to drop it prematurely and I would like to adjust the new version to a state everybody's happy with first (well, at least almost everybody, because as usual, there will be always somebody not happy with the changes).
About the navigation - I would like to keep things unified as it's a PITA to maintain otherwise. For that reason I would like to keep the current main navigation as is. BUT, I am definitely not opposing some changes and improvements. For example, one of the thing I was thinking about was providing the related (same level) items in a some kind of quick menu (like at the mockup image below). Maybe having it on the right side instead, including the top level items. Will that work for you?
02 Aug 2022, 7:41pm
On old inara I could just select fleet from the left panel directly.
I like how individual elements look like in new inara, design is simple and slick.
I dont like the layout and the navigation though.
I don't know how to open someones logbok when im visitng their profile.
I don't like that I have to click to see the entire fleet of cmdr.
I feel like I have to click and scroll significantly more while using the new inara.

Second is it possible to have a button that switches between new and old inara for time being?

Better but you're not exactly linking between those 3rd level items and the hover sub-menu. Visually you're in a different place if that makes sense.
Also about unified, not sure what you mean. You're adding one more sub-menu to maintain with the image you posted. Of course I don't know how your backend is built and it's obviously not a problem if your sub-menus are very modular. Visually you'd want unified styles, yes. However you shouldn't aim for unified layout between mobile and desktop, the CSS should adapt it to different media.
The solution I'd go for personally is... wider overal and putting a copy of the whole sub-menu navigation in a sidebar in the deadspace on the left.
- Highlight current page/location on both
- Hide as required for viewport width
Then you can still have the one at the top that hovers. The different container class would simply drive the layout of both.
Cheers!

ArtieAlright, I will use a few more people in early new Inara version testing/feedback round (and thanks everybody already in). I would like to put it live tomorrow, but getting more people to the new version early will help to discover possible problems before it will get to the wild. If interested, drop me a PM. Thanks.
Artie, have a good day! We are translating corrections and additions to the translation into Russian. Everything will be ready as soon as possible. Thank you for your work!

EmpyriusWhen I look at the CG page it gives good details on what the requirements are but lacks individual contribution and graphs . This is on my android phone.
Second is it possible to have a button that switches between new and old inara for time being?
Ah, right, it was not visible on mobiles. Should be back now, thanks for bringing that to my attention. There is possible to switch back to old Inara in the "My profile" menu.

Do you have any other idea(s) instead of the sidebar by any chance? It seems you have clear opinions about it, so gathering more options will be definitely useful.

I just switched to the new INARA ( i thought one could just revert back, seems i was wrong).
Hiding information is not always good, the old layout could look a bit overwhelming, but we could rapidly scoop up what we needed.
Now my question: i can see the squad roster, and the squad FCs, but where is the controlled systems, the graphic variation of influences (really required for controlling faction)?
If it is there, then i cant find it (my mistake, probably), but now i also cannot go back to the old version.
Neds a bit more work, honestly, but the layout seems more modern, visually looks good.
Cheers.

ArtieDo you have any other idea(s) instead of the sidebar by any chance? It seems you have clear opinions about it, so gathering more options will be definitely useful.
Sure, glad to help. In my opinion it's imperative to have the sub-menu displayed somehow without hovering on desktop, you won't get away from that. Same with displaying current location on it, on top of breadcrumbs.
Sidebar is the easiest to do, goes into current unused space available and is a very natural fit in your current design. That's why I strongly suggest that approach - see the image in my previous post. Once you get to... say around Tablet sized viewport, just hide the whole column with conditional CSS.
Displaying the sub-menu at all times (no more hover) once in the section is another option, but you're adding a tall bit of header in that case. submenu could be reorganized slightly to make it shorter.
Otherwise you can make your breadcrumbs in a horizontal tree version of your sub-menu as it would be much more compact. Keep the hover sub-menu. Display all 2nd level and current 3rd level nav.
HOME > ENGINEERING > Engineers | COMPONENTS | Experimental Effects | ...
> outfitting
> systems and stations
> ...
You can also have a 2nd level bar and a 3rd level navigation bar show up once in a detailed menu, but this would stray away from your current sub-menu design a lot.
I don't want to get too technical on the forum, you're welcome to DM.

I see it like Episparh and Tomciopalec, i love the old one but the new one i dislike, short said. Sorry, just my meaning, im old and i like old style, new mobile style is nothing for me.

In this case tho, I personally am not a fan of the new layout, and much prefer the current “traditional” one. Like Kurakil above me, I like having the information on hand easily, without having to drill and drill through different pages.

Meliav I just switched to the new INARA ( i thought one could just revert back, seems i was wrong)
On your profile tab, you can switch back to the old style. (Just stumbled across it, myself.)
Artie Oh, please comment, too! Having a feedback from "new kids" is same as important as from the veterans.
Yeah, thanks. It's less a matter of undue shyness though, and more of my simply being less at home with all the ins & outs of the site. I guess on my 1080p monitor it looks alright, don't have a lot to add. I'd prefer if clicking on your profile name took you straight to your overview page btw, as it was.
(EDIT: Oh, wait, what, where has that gone even? My ship, my crafting, and all that jazz: where is it? Pretty sure I could find it there when I looked before, now it all seems missing?)
