What's your play style? Are you looking for a wing of mercenaries or bounty hunters, or is piracy more to your taste? Do you want to align with one of the superpowers, or would you prefer to remain independent?
There are lots of wings listed on Inara, many of which actively support minor factions ingame. Take a look through them and see if you can find one you like the look of.

There's plenty for you to explore! As for combat, I'd recommended you do the game's training scenarios, and then check out some of the many YouTube videos for extra hints. Bear in mind that those videos tend to be made by players who are extremely good at combat, so don't feel daunted by them. Just take what you can, and build on it for yourself.

Speaking of advice, I'd try a bit of everything you can while you're still in the bubble before making the pilgrimage to Colonia. I've just made it out there myself, and its no easy journey!
I wish you all the luck though, and hopefully I'll bump into you out in the black

Alrighty, finally arrived in Inara and made Citi Gateway my base. Did a few missions for Inara Nexus, then went out on a Trade Run. I mostly play Solo, and am going to max out my trading rank, then I want to try either exploration or mining. Might have a go at bounty hunting/combat, but I tend to max out the throttle and boost in the opposite direction if I am successfully interdicted (with NPCs, doesn't happen really though).
Have applied to the HOT Wing, but guess I actually have to make the 0.22LY run first? That is on my list of things to do/places to go in ED, for sure (or actually, #forthemug)
Also want to visit Sol one day, once I have the permit, and everywhere else just about.16 Oct 2017, 10:44am
You'll find that the InGaBa is exceptionally well stocked, both in terms of alcohol and intrigue.
