Second, I'm a huge Firefly fan, but I have to ask... Elite has it's own fascinating lore, why try to play Elite in a different universe?

I agree with this completely. If I wanted to play a game I could mold into something like The Verse I'd pick a different game where it would have a better chance to fit. Oolite comes to mind and they just had a new release. I haven't played it but from what I've read it you can modify it more or less to fit your wants and needs. It is a solo only game so that might be a drawback.

Well, it comes down to time and familiarity. A game like this (or City of Heroes) I jump in, play an hour or two and I’m done for a day or two. I can enjoy the game more with some “borrowed” familiarity, as the odds I’m going to delve into the fictional lore (as well as real history of major player actions) are slim until spring.
But, finding that the Firefly related factions in-game have diminished wont stop me from enjoying the game, it’s a bonus not a necessity. So, I’ll be looking for an active, xbox centered squadron to game around with.

Been playing this game for a little over a week now. It was given to me with the horizon pass by a friend. I am enjoying this game.
I like to help other pilots and will soon be building a Rescue ship. Perhaps using the Diamonbacks. I looked into being a fuel rat but they want me to use an IRC and I'm not a fan of that. So if anyone is within 200LY of sol and needs some repairs/fuel please contact me via the #guest_support_chat on discord which can be found at the [JungG] website.
This game is far better then those pay to win games.
The most expensive ship I have at the moment is the Dolphin. I must add, the passengers can be quite tedious to handle at times. So I decided to stick to the standard passengers (such as transport of aid workers, refugees, doctors, and occasional tourists..
I play about 4hrs a day 5 days a week. So please contact my self or my team via discord for any assistance: I can perform repairs and fuel ships.
Hopefully there are many good Commanders in this game and so far it seems the community is better then many other MMOs.

Darth-SokarHi everybody, I'm new to Elite Dangerous, I would appreciate any advice given, I normally play RPG type of games, I watched a few videos of elite dangerous and thought I would give it a try. yes I spent money just to try a game.

This game can be quite frustrating if one lacks the patience and desire to advance. It has quite the learning curve but even someone as my self suffering from various health issues is having a great time in ED.
A guess some advise would be work to on the key binds and control settings. It took me about 45hrs of game play to final find the control setting on my keyboard and mouse to travel effectively.
If you are also keyboard & mouse i recommend moving most of the keys to the left side (for those whom are right handed on mouse) of the board for better control over the craft. Some keys in default require the player to unhand the mouse or unhand the w,a,s,d to activate things.

Darth, ED is a slow burner, so I hope when you try games you give them a decent run in... ED will soak up much of your time. If you don't understand something or are a bit lost, ask, as community is one of the best parts of Elite. Also I found this useful when I started out.
