Introductions

Been part of this site for quite a while now but never posted anything.
I'm no role-player, and mainly play Solo. I'm an avid explorer and enjoy spending months out in the black. I prefer to keep to myself but I'm trying to gain the courage to play in Open. I'm just afraid of gankers, you know. My main vessel is for exploring so I don't handle combat very well in it. Even though I often prefer solitude, Solo is getting quite lonely. A bit too lonely.
This is the second MMO I've had an interest in. The other game being Elder Scrolls Online, a game which I'm very experienced in. Again, not a role-player.
Got 650 hours in E:D so far and I'm in love with it. Still a lot of stuff I don't know, but I'm eager to learn. Definitely one of my all-time favorite games.
I'm itching to play in Open once I have gotten a fully upgraded fleet. I'm one of those who love helping newer players in games, and I think Elite would be a perfect candidate for that.

Wow, thank you for the compliment! I am perfectly aware that Real Life (TM) often interferes with RPing. I am glad that you liked my posts: I am a total newbie of ED but I have been a GM in many tabletop and forum games. Surely I'll try to roleplay even in the comms panel (if I'll survive long enough to learn which key activates it *joking* )
I've yet to do much RP in the Comms panel myself. Usually it's just an NPC named after an obscure sci-fi reference complaining I have no cargo, or a ganker saying 'gg' when they fail to spawn in my instance. The ultimate defense...
It'd be a pleasant surprise, that's for sure!

First of all, Open is pretty damn good. It's actually way better than solo, for the reasons you mentioned. I went from Solo to Open years ago, and I almost never encounter hostile players. Being a member of a squadron is not necessary, but I found it makes Open easier and far more enjoyable. Also, most hostile PvP can be avoided or escaped without too much trouble. Flying with seasoned players can help with learning how. I'd be happy to discuss it further if you're interested.

New here. Not so much to Elite, although I had to start over recently.
(Not that my old account was particularly late-game, though... I have around 300 hours of playtime.)
Always playing Open, mostly trading and helping NPC factions against PMC expansion (don't knock it 'till you try it).
I wanted to get my profile in order before actually posting here though, haha.

Don't worry, I'm only really taking on one at a time, in a specific few locations... otherwise I'd be spread way too thin. And who would be stupid enough to declare war on PMCs in general?
It's just that there's this one faction in my home system with: a cool color scheme, cool-looking contact NPCs, and a cool name. I can't help but want to see them in power again! Dunno if the PMF in question has noticed my efforts yet. But I've got them up to 24% from 12 in just a couple days, we'll see.
