Introductions

Gaming, in all its incarnations, has been a consuming hobby of mine since the Timex Sinclair. My first D&D books had staples for bindings. Not much of a LARPer (I just seem to end up dating one) but I had fun in the 80s with SCA.
Took early retirement in 2005 from a two-decade-long career in tech to indulge the obligatory mid-life crazy time men go through. Instead of buying a motorcycle, I decided to finally get a university degree. As an Experimental Psychologist, technologist, and a long time gamer, I've become deeply fascinated with the tools and systems roleplayers use to simulate and bring their stories to life.
Which brings me here to you. In all my nerdy middle-aged splendor. I hope I don't annoy everyone with my questions.
Oh, I'm a crap pilot and know it so I play solo. I'd have to be relegated to the Bunny Slope for a good amount of time before you pick me to wing up.
No really...It's comical how bad I am. Would totally understand why I'm last for dodgeball here and would be forgiving of such.

Many at our wing have been playing this game before the PC was existing...so age is an advantage for us
Welcome here!

My D&D books didn’t have staples but were the first bound editions. My son (age 14) found them about 7 years ago and was obsessed with the monster manual. We bought all the 5th ed books upon release and have been having a wonderful time.
Nice meeting you here

Formed a new squad dedicated to exploration, and currently jumping down the Colonia Highway toward the frontier! Looking for some other fans of the game to chat with and possibly some new recruits/coalitions.

Xavier TrazenTrazen checking in. Fairly new to the game but learning my way around fast. Always dreamed of exploring space and recently discovered ED. Been hooked ever since.

o7, fellow explorer! I'm on the Colonia highway right now as well (though I'm not headed for Colonia). I'm over at Gagarin Gate, so maybe we'll cross paths!

Xavier TrazenNice. I felt like I was the only one out here lol I'm docked at Attenbourgh's Watch in the Lagoon Nebula waiting for a squad mate to catch up.
If you're ever curious about how alone you really are, just click on the traffic report in Starport Services. I thought I'd be the only CMDR at Gagarin that day, but the report told me that 8 others had passed by in the last day.
Oh, so you've come to the BEYOOTIFUL Lagoon Nebula? Good old Attenborough's Watch, it nearly blew me up when me and a friend decided to have an impromptu SLF duel...

Always be ‘specially wary of one who claims to be crap at something. That claim usually immediately precedes them giving you a damn good hiding!

Xavier TrazenSame here, 9 ships have come through. And yeah, hit the Lagoon...dissapointed there were no hot alien hulu dancers and cocktails. Not sure what an SLF is but that approach in the ring is hairy.
SLF stands for ship-launched fighter, good sir. Very useful in PvE combat and on certain trade ships, but not usually found on exploration vessels. However, the specific nature of my current exploration trip involves duels with them, so I slapped a hangar on my Krait and set out with some.

Ah, I'm familiar with them but haven't used them. Are you coming across Thargoids in these parts? I guess PVE could be other players too heh

I'm still a little disoriented after having been thawed out about a year ago after a slight mishap involving a collision with a solid nitrogen asteroid during my last sortie with Her Majesty's Martian Expeditionary Force back in 1898. When I went bye-bye we were giving Johnny Martian a good seeing to in retaliation for that awful affair with walking machines and heat rays on Horsell Common, and blow me if we aren't having to do something similar with those wretched Thargoid savages here in 3306!
I must say that I'm rather taken with these new space-ships - rather more effective than our old chemical-powered buckets. Can't say I'm too impressed with some other developments though; in *my* day the Empire fought tooth and nail to put an end to the abominable practice of slavery wherever we could.
Anyway, being a quiet, unassuming sort of chap I've been silently prowling around this neck of the woods for the past 10 months or so, making use of the splendid facilities and so on while I found out what was what. Rather thought it was about time I showed my face and introduced myself.
So here I am; pleased to make your acquaintance.
