You'll find plenty out there to add to one's logs.
Tally ho and chocks away old boy.

Captain BellingerWhat Ho! Chaps, Captain Bellinger signing in for duty. Late of the Bengal Thermal Lancers but now rather more of a privateer.
I'm still a little disoriented after having been thawed out about a year ago after a slight mishap involving a collision with a solid nitrogen asteroid during my last sortie with Her Majesty's Martian Expeditionary Force back in 1898. When I went bye-bye we were giving Johnny Martian a good seeing to in retaliation for that awful affair with walking machines and heat rays on Horsell Common, and blow me if we aren't having to do something similar with those wretched Thargoid savages here in 3306!
I must say that I'm rather taken with these new space-ships - rather more effective than our old chemical-powered buckets. Can't say I'm too impressed with some other developments though; in *my* day the Empire fought tooth and nail to put an end to the abominable practice of slavery wherever we could.
Anyway, being a quiet, unassuming sort of chap I've been silently prowling around this neck of the woods for the past 10 months or so, making use of the splendid facilities and so on while I found out what was what. Rather thought it was about time I showed my face and introduced myself.
So here I am; pleased to make your acquaintance.
'Ello, guv'ner!

SLF stands for ship-launched fighter, good sir. Very useful in PvE combat and on certain trade ships, but not usually found on exploration vessels. However, the specific nature of my current exploration trip involves duels with them, so I slapped a hangar on my Krait and set out with some.
Ah, I'm familiar with them but haven't used them. Are you coming across Thargoids in these parts? I guess PVE could be other players too heh
Anyone who looks for Thargoids on the Colonia Highway is either drunk or EXTREMELY new to the game (I suspect you're in the latter category). There are only two real places to fight Thargs, and they're both near the Bubble: the Pleiades Nebula and the Witch head Nebula... and maybe the Sanguineous Rim if you're lucky.

DarthjazzhandsWelcome CMDR Armblessed. I would say “fly dangerously” but it sounds like you already do
My D&D books didn’t have staples but were the first bound editions. My son (age 14) found them about 7 years ago and was obsessed with the monster manual. We bought all the 5th ed books upon release and have been having a wonderful time.
Nice meeting you here
DJ
Specifically I "fly dangerously close to appropriately having the Benny Hill theme playing"
A pleasure to meet you as well. Hopefully, we will see each other in the black soon.

I know where they mostly are. I saw PVE and that was just the first thing I thought of. I could be drunk too though, you never know. I'm definitely a newb to ED.

Give this man a promotion for honesty LOL
welcome Armblessed
lol
I figured save myself the embarrassment beforehand.
Trying to fake it would play out like a Brady Bunch episode.
As soon as I hear "What is he doing?", I know it all downhill from there.

UrsherakWelcome Armblessed, and you can't be as bad as I have been as a fighter pilot. I mostly Explore, courier and make a good target for Thargoids so others can get in there. As long as you have fun its OK.
I totally understand where you are coming from. My ranks in exploration and trade are nearly pegged but my combat is barely 3rd rank. Every dog fight, I feel like an angry fiddler crab.
Hope to see you in the black as well

Always be ‘specially wary of one who claims to be crap at something. That claim usually immediately precedes them giving you a damn good hiding!
Welcome Armblessed 07
Ah! You must be the smuggler of the group
I do make up for it with a ruthless pursuit of credits. Pardon the trek reference but I think I'm part Ferengi. The thought of a dynamic/responsive economy in this game makes my spreadsheet tingle.

I’ll skip the hairy ritual parts of the greeting. Tends to scare folk.

The closest thing in Elite to a 'cloaking device' would be Silent Running. Since heat is a big part of space flight, and the easiest way for sensors to pick up other ships, Silent Running renders one's ship incredibly stealthy, even 'invisible' at certain distances. The downside is you build up heat quickly! It's useful for smugglers and those lying in ambush.
I'd be interested to learn more about your Commander's story, in terms of subterfuge and intrigue! It's an interesting take in a universe that lacks, at least, in-game mechanics for such things. However, it's possible to look at several aspects of powerplay, such as preparation and undermining, from that perspective. I'd be happy to tell you more.
I hope you find what you're looking for here!
