Interesting that quite a number of ex-military folks are playing Elite. I'm a 21 year retired ex-crew chief that worked on KC-135's, F-4D's, F-16's, and B-1b's. I was forced to retire in 2004 (Neck and back started to fail me). I've been out for a while now but I still miss the camaraderie, sense of duty, and the overall job satisfaction that comes from one's service.
And right back at ya!
I don't know anyone who served who has not got some injury, physical or mental. There's much more we can do for our fellow service people who were not us fortunate as us.

Synthya WylderI wanted to join the US Navy & go to the Naval Academy, after growing up just outside the wall... but back then, they weren't accepting females. That didn't keep me from learning & starting a career & business in the marine field though.
Their loss! Much has changed and there is still much to change regarding military culture. I can only say that some of the women I have worked with, could out run, out think and out shoot any man I ever met... and I was a bloody good shot!

I've heard it said that women tend to make better pilots & sharpshooters due to their lower body/abdominal strength & relative lack of testosterone interfering with clear thoughts & emotions, quick reactions, & steady calm breath control & aim.
Besides, there's none more fierce & ruthless than a mother protecting her own.

Amata LireinI was merely a conscript (not a veteran) with the Luftwaffe (Jagdgeschwader 72 "Westfalen" (72nd Fighter Wing "Westphalia"), has been dissolved during restructuring), serving as a member of the Luftwaffensicherungsstaffel (LwSichStff) "Hopsten". Not sure how to translate that, we were basically responsible to maintain security by keeping unwanted visitors off the airfield and making sure that everyone followed the rules (like "no hats on the airfield, a turbine could suck it in!") and to "welcome" bogeys/bandits that had been forced to land at our airfield by our pilots... who were Phantom Phlyers btw (F4-F Phantom II).

Salute! I spent 4 years in Bamburg Germany, back when there was still a "politically sensitive East/West German border" and was there when the wall came down.

I do too miss it, but I dont miss the deployments anymore LOL.

I can’t speak for flying, but as a shooting skills instructor with the Scouts I have seen as many young women as young men, if not more, progress to national and international competition standard.

thought I am going to put myself on the radar. My name is Edward. I played the game when it first came out in the 80's and hand coded thousands of lines of assembler code on a Commodore C64. I didn't start play this new version until little over a month ago. I am very glad to see that this is still in the hands of the same man who created it. The development has been fantastic and i can't wait to see where they will take this game in the future.
Also, a big thank you to the people behind INARA. There is a great deal of great work done here in the background and I appreciate every bit of it.

INARA eliminates the need for the many sheets of price lists we used to have dotted around the computer we used to have in the Elite days.

Like many people here, I played the original in the 80s and was intrigued with the reboot. Bought into it a month back or so and love what it has become. Okay, so every system is now bumper to bumper full of billionaire carrier fleets and every chokepoint system is heavily ganked to make solo play essential throughout the bubble. But once you get off the beaten track it is just a beautiful game. Generally I love the community and the feel of the galaxy that Frontier have created. I'm totally immersed and still get that catch of breath when I jump out on a new and wondrous cosmic sight.
