Elite is one of them games you can drop and pick up again and not feel like ya missing out.
The INARA regulars are a great help and for me, an integral part of the game.

Welcome Lakshimi

Welcome Commander.

Not quite as new but I joined during the last steam sale back at the end of august.

Hopefully I know enough to answer basic questions but for the more technical stuff you might be better off asking the long-term players.

Hi Xolz here, mining and privateer looking for group play

Hi Xolz,

Would be happy to start a mining specific group if you don't find one.

I mainly mine painite in the double hotspot at Hyades Sector DB-X d1-112

Welcome Lakshimi

Thank you Commander.
The gameplay has been quite intuitive so far. I was able to weave together some sort of narrative from my time in the Pilots' Federation, venturing out to rescue a colony on the verge of anarchy and famine, and then taking to the stars in service of the Federation Navy.

Would you like to know more?

I read ya Diamonds are Forever Entry as I was thinking of going mining and I was I'd seen something about the new James Bond.
Keeping a log on INARA as I started was almost as enjoyable as playing the game.

DuskthornI purchased the game during a Steam sale, but never got to testing it (50% of my library is untouched, but you know how it is when there's a Steam sale on...).
Getting a bit bored with my other games (mostly RPGs incl MMOs, ARPGs, BF and the likes), an urge to pilot a spaceship was slowly building.

Welcome!

No, I don't know how's that.

Add to Steam sales Bundles, such as Humble Bundle, Fanatical, IndieGala.... and then you can get where I am, above 90% of library never played...

At the moment I am @ 2,718 games on Steam , 3-4 hundred @ gog.com, about 150 on epic games... (Origin, Battle.net etc. not to count )

hello everyone im 3 days old to this game
I currently been doing assassinations and bounty hunting with my viper mk3 but I am interested in exploring as well.

the biggest issue for my ship right now is that i cant jump 15k distances? The maximum jump is just 6k and i don't even have a cargo section so idk why but i think its probably my fuel tank or fsd ?

also can i do both of this bounty hunting & exploring with the imperial eagle?

Haha what I meant was filling the library with things you'll never use : when you see shiny game on sale, buy buy buy =)
Seems you know exactly how it is ^^

Welcome Commander.
I would recommend to upgrade your frame shift drive if the present one is overburdened. Take note most fighter sized ships are very concerned of their mass. The more mass you have the shorter the jump range.

Jump range of 6 would be painful for exploration. Most explorers accessible to your level and without special engineering, should be able to make 15-20 LY jumps. Diamondback series ships for instance can be cheaply geared up and still attain that range by selecting lightest mass modules and upgrading the FSD.

Hope this helps else I can further share more tips if you'd like to share the ship configuration you have (on Discord?)

thank you
and I really appreciate for all the wisdom you shared
indeed it seems due to lots of modules I have
I'm new and I have so much to learn about what stats to look for

Ha, we were new once and so am I. This is my second weekend playing.
Participating in my first CG event made me learn a lot on small or medium transport handling.

I initially had the same confusion as you but much of the ship performance here is inspired by the classic Rocket Equation.

Basically the bigger the ship the larger the engine and the more fuel you need. If you want to go further take the modules with lower mass and sacrifice performance. There are particular modules like D class that are lightest in the entire A to E range.

Anything towards maximum performance (A class) generally gets heavier and heavier but suddenly becomes lighter at A due to more efficient design.

You can't use a small engine or tiny shield on a huge ship because there's no practical way the small drive or shield is going to support a big Hull. It's then more practical to up size to the next size class. Make sure you are not using a size 1 module on a size 2 or larger hard point, it would be quite economical to just fill up the empty space rather than upgrading to the next more expensive component.

For example, going from 4D to 4C ppwerplant is a logical upgrade, whereas 4D to 3A means ripping out a V8 engine and replacing with a Japanese turbo 2.0 liter. It can get the job done for very specialised mass saving applications, but much more expensive and runs out of upgrade options.

For a fighter class ship, a lot of your combat efficiency comes from being able to maneuver fast, jump long enough for you to do light exploration and courier work, and also having enough power to fire your weapons and charge shields constantly.

So making an efficient ship build is all about experimenting and observation, try not to lean towards reading optimal builds but rather understand the Rocket Equation principle.

Bigger ship needs bigger engine and more fuel. Do I make it lighter, or do I add engine and fuel? Once you master the ship 'equation' within your budget to optimize it, this shapes your next ship choice as well. Much like how I made the decision to go for the Diamondback Explorer rather than other ship choices in the 2 million credit range, is because of big fuel tank and big frame shift drive, enabling her to fly further into deep space without refueling stops.

thanks for explaining so nicely
i will take this into account on my next ship
