Many people will tell you how you "should" play. I used to be one of them. Now I just tell people to give Play Modes a chance, fully preparing to be ganked, and ways to deal with that.

1) I recently changed my game name to SIMOMIC1966 and although it shows up in the game it hasn't seemed to change on here. Any idea on how long it takes to change? Not sure if i'm doing something wrong. I may have messed up somewhere...As i usually do, in games as well as life
2) I am on the whole mainly sticking to Solo game play and i do mostly exploring now that i have a DB Explorer. I read and still am reading through an old and very long discussion in Frontier forums which talks about how Open play was, is , or isn't popular, depending on opinion. Of course, the discussion got a little heated at times. I don't know if there have been any changes to open play rules since that discussion started in 2017.
3) I read about Gankers and also Griefers . Is there a difference? Also, have any changes been made to the penalties to those just wanting to kill, or even pirate you in the game? The complaint by some was that the penalties, fines, bounties are or were too lenient.
4) I play on Xbox One and i'm still getting used to this console as well. Was only given it around xmas. The thing is i don't really think i can pay for xbox live every month to play Open (think it's a bit of a ripoff too) often so my best bet is to accumulate points on Microsoft rewards.
5) I read something about getting banned for logging off during a firefight in open. We in our household do not pay a monthly electric bill, we use a kind of electronic key card to top up how much electric we need for the day or week . Sometimes our electricity goes off because we forget how long we have left to top up. If ever venture into Open play and our electric goes off, or our ISP is doing maintenance during a fight with another ship does that warrant a ban too? It might be rare that that scenario could happen, but it could, right?

Thanks for the info. I did change my name manually and did another reset. It's no big problem really so i can just leave it as long as my updates are working ok, all is fine.
Oh how i wish i had an up to date PC to play Odyssey. The environment (planets especially) looks beautiful in the vids i've seen on youtube. I'm still on Windows XP..lol.

If for no other reason than security, I'd strongly recommend updating your operating system. WinDoze XP is no longer supported.

I've been a fan of Elite since Froniter - Elite II when a friend brought a copy of it round my house waaayyyy back in the mid 90s. I remember saying to him then, "how cool would this be if you could play it online with others?".
Any way, been off and on with Dangerous for quite some time but having set up my own gaming guild during lockdown I have been able to persuade some of my members to try the game and we now have our own squadron - The Hidden Guild.
We're working on increasing our credits and fleet whilst all learning the game and currently have an pending request for a PMF so (fingers crossed).
Happy to take on more members or allies, hopefully not enemies but you never know what will happen amongst the stars.

Hey there commanders, I'm Kazuma. I've been playing E:D since about 2016. I did take a bit of a break from it for while. However with Odyssey coming out I've been dipping my toes back in and I remember why I love this game.
Anyway you can generally catch me streaming the game on twitch playing with friends in my private group (Nice try any stream snipers). I'll either be in pancake mode or from time to time I'll bust out Elite in VR Mode because god Elite is so pretty in VR.
