Elite: General talk

Lambast MercyWow! I hope that was an automatic response with a bug, coz if its a mod that's really bad.

So apparently a bot considered the two emotes used as spam

Reposted question without emotes... now I got a 30 minute timeout?!? WTF?!? And it was a moderator, not a bot.

So, how am I supposed to deal with that now? I would bring up that issue on their forums, but like most forums discussing moderator actions is not allowed there, so that's out of the question. I'm not even sure if, given the chance, I should ask the question again on Thursday's stream as I cannot be sure anymore that they wouldn't ban me from their twitch channel next.

The one time I had issues with moderator action in the frontier forums, I took it to Brett C personally and it was dealt with.

Whom?
13 Apr 2021, 5:59pm
The community manager of the Frontier Forums at that time, seems like he left though, no idea who's in charge of the mods now :/

It's got the canopy right up in front, too.

What, really? Merely for asking a simple question, & again, when it was unanswered?

Amata LireinFriendly reminder: Space, contrary to popular believe, is not a vacuum. Lots of hydrogen and deuterium out there, and depending on where you are in space its density differs. So in the long run a projectile will slow down to a stop... it would take faaaar longer then the game suggests though

Gravitational drag might be a bigger factor in slowing down projectiles. Density in the interstellar medium varies but 30% - 70% of it have a density of 10^-4 to 10^−2. It's well possible that a reasonably sized projectile might not be stopped by friction until after the end of our universe.

And quite posibly it would eventually settle in a orbital pattern of a sort

No space is a perfect vacuum, as Amata & Becca pointed out, & a projectile would eventually be slowed down, & assuming that nothing solid or even as dense as an atmosphere would slow it down, it would take an incredibly long time; depending on the strength of the gravity well & the kinetic energy involved, it would surely fall into some kind of orbit... eventually.

Meanwhile, it still would be a danger to all craft in its path all the while.

Low-Earth orbital objects are slowly dragged back into the atmosphere, & the high-orbit ones take much longer to decay due to the relative lack of the wisps of the atmosphere closer to Earth. But eventually, mostly due to the lack of total vacuum, they too will eventually fall.

We're a group of truly cultured people aren't we?

Well I'm going bug hunting with a huge can of bug spray. Have fun commanders.

Not to mention no geosynchronous orbit is perfect, gravity.. always wins eventually

Because it's always some gravity present, even a slightest one in deep space between galaxies. Not to mention something so close to a celestial body.

They're called ballistic weapons for a reason.
