Elite: General talk

“A few have even darker reputations. I remember being told as a boy: ‘If you don’t behave, the Phagos take you away in your sleep and eat you up.’ All my childhood nightmares came surging back when I discovered there may be some truth to that story.”

A warm welcome to the new space Boogeymen.

I like these stories about dredgers, lost ships etc. much more than reports about space politics involving Marlinists, Imperial weddings etc.

Me2. It adds a lot of desperately-needed color to the E:D universe.

Hopefully, it will be fleshed out to a playable scenario.

Space boogeymen. "Fleshed out." Snicker!

Better then being flushed I would think. Right?

I'm a little confused about the danage falloffs for kinetics..doesn't newtons law say an object in motion will stay in motion until acted upon by an outside force?
13 Apr 2021, 10:09am
Elites lore says otherwise.
Dashed inconvenient having to marry it with reality.
13 Apr 2021, 10:12am
Yeah, a lot of inconsistencies with Newton's Laws in E:D.

Well they got gravity right..found that out the hard way..think they named that crater next to arnason's progress after me

Friendly reminder: Space, contrary to popular believe, is not a vacuum. Lots of hydrogen and deuterium out there, and depending on where you are in space its density differs. So in the long run a projectile will slow down to a stop... it would take faaaar longer then the game suggests though

XGN BlazeShadowWould be awesome if they created docking tubes for large ships at the orbital stations just for cargo

why not just have little transport craft that shuttle between your ship's cargo hold and the station? They could even use an automated entrance to keep the mail slot free. Previous versions of Elite had cargo transporters. You could purchase and fly them, though they were entirely pointless to own. Mostly there coz players had huge ships that couldn't fit in the stations such as Panther Clipper and the Boa.

It could even make use of the SLF system. Perhaps a small cargo shuttle that only just fits in the SLF hangar? It wouldn't be able to carry much but it's better than nothing I suppose. Maybe even make it so you can automate it while you go make some food or something if you're unloading a bunch of cargo, because auto-dock is a thing.

The ship you're looking for was called the Lifter

Correct, not in just 7km..since even in atmosphere shells can travel 12+ miles

When you pull that trigger, you are ruining someone's day, some way, some how! That is why we check our targets! That is why we wait for the computer to come up with a firing solution! That is why, Serviceman Chung, we do not eyeball it! This is a weapon of Mass Destruction! You are NOT a cowboy, shooting from the hip!
