MeowersAh... just go already.

You don't want that. A game without players is dead. I've been here enough times to see how people that complain still support the game, and it's better to keep them around and fix it if possible.

When I'm bored I go and watch silly videos like this one...

I don't play the game myself, but scenes like the one at 6:25 are just pure comedy gold

On your end, just make sure your complaints are constructive and try to send them at the Devs so that they can fix stuff. Otherwise you would also be driving more people away which also results in the game we both love being killed xD

True. But littering a third-party forum with countless video links won't do anything except annoying people. There's already many people around who's unhappy with EDO, and I'm one of them too. No need to tell me the same thing for a tenth time, I'm not that stupid.

There was a more subtle issue i was concerned about.. but I dont know how to fix it.. i gave up.

Maybe you should try to explain it with more words (and more straightforward words).
Doubt we can fix anything being just a forum (third-party forum) users, however.

<sigh> K. I will try one more time, and try to be as succinct as possible. "Role-play" if there is any (and I cant speak about EDO cause Im on a PS4.) is broken. esp. as a console player. The game is broken. I dont even think FDEV can fix it. and i fear the game is doomed. If for no other reason than, "it is getting old." and there are very similar games coming out that will fill the demand and drain away the user community. Which is weakened and fractured by so much decentralisation. There needs to be a migration strategy to move the FUNCTIONS of sites like Inara and EDDB into the game proper instead of letting the user community fill the void in their programming of the game. (Inara and EDDB would have to volunteer to die and/or be assimilated. (Artie is not on board - obviously.))

The whole game now is spread out over the internet. lets say for hypothetical sake say that frontier suddenly cut the data link between sites like EDDB and INARA and left them out in the cold... well of course they cant because then the game becomes unplayable, but just sayin' to make the point. This is not a 'stand alone' product. (its not even half done!!) it DEPENDS (to its detriment) on community sites like this one to even WORK at all.

My experience trying to find a home club or faction or squadron was a nightmare.. Reddit, Discord, Facebook... I mean everyone is spread out all over and using all different modes of communication.. I gave up. The player interface to factions and the BGS has to be re-designed. I shouldn't HAVE to have web-pages open at the same time while I play the game.. Its just not practical. (esp. for a console player) This is a PC centric game and it show.. 'gamers' arn't going to put up with this crap for long.. too many other games to play.. I just got 80% off for Shadow of War bundle!! $16 Canadian!!! Ya... see ya all later when the game is more playable... if it survives.

My point exactly

I'll drop my 2 cents in, & I've said it before, it's sad that the things & functions the game (players) needs to be playable aren't found in the game. Hence, sites & services such as Inara.

Sure, it saves Frontier lotsa time, effort & money by letting all those myriad functions be developed & handled by 3rd parties... seems to me the lazy way out.

Not that I'm a huge gamer & haven't played a whole long list of games - I tend to find one & stick with it until it shows the flaws that drive me to find others to play, or I get bored or tired of it, or their business/monetization pisses me off enough, but so far I've never seen or played any other game that relied SO HEAVILY on other 3rd-party sites & functions in order to be able to play.

Perhaps it would be fairer for Frontier to be paying sites/operators like Inara/Artie for all of their hard work, time, effort, etc. if they can't or won't do it themselves.

Third-party sites would be always growing around relatively complex games and offering their services that somehow ease the game or keep track of personal stats, etc. It's natural. You can't strip people like Artie off their rights to create and maintain a website about their favourite game. And they always will make it their way, because that's how creativity works. Even if FD will realise (all of a sudden) that their flagship product lacks social options. And yes, it definitely lacks social options, even a particularly 'single' player like me can see that. And their official forum looks awfully outdated, not that 'nice oldschool' type, but really outdated. And text roleplay... It's better be on some forums, I guess. It belongs to fan forums.

So, as I see, the truth is out there, somewhere in between.
However, I disagree with 'ED is PC-centric' statement, UI is consoled to the maximum and have no tweaks that make it more PC-styled.
My disappointment with EDO was more of technical matters, but I can see what do you mean. But... FD have their hands full perhaps, with that EDO failboat and efforts to fix something. Game is getting old, but it's getting old by 'well-known game industry product lifetime' standards, while FD present this game as 'something different'. So... Time will tell.

As for me now, game provides me with everything that I need from the game (even if I don't play EDO content... I'm more into space flight anyway), and I'm grateful from the very heart to Artie for creating that site with all its communication possibilities. Game isn't ideal, but I can't and I won't be losing my time to find something 'better'. Not this year. Maybe even for a longer time.

Ah, now we are getting somewhere! This is my point. Love Artie for saving the game.. hate him for holding it hostage?? (probly not the best analogy.) I suggested a collaboration but he won't reach out. I doubt FDEV will make the offer.. but Artie should be incorporated into FDEV... as should whoever runs EDDB. Put them on the payroll.. then absorb their respective sites.. but I think im on the road to wishful thinking here.

I think you nailed my feelings of frustration with the statement "..seems to me the lazy way out."

I am not saving the game and I am also not holding it hostage. Same as many fan-sites for many games do, I am just offering a service to players who want something extra than the game offers, make their life more comfortable and so on. There are many players enjoying Elite without any 3rd party sites and tools just fine, it's not a requirement. Same as there are many players enjoying Guild Wars 2 without the fan-made (and officially acknowledged) wiki and so on. There is already a some kind of collaboration, although not written or "official". For example, Frontier is maintaining and extending their companion API server, creating and updating the journals, listening to 3rd party devs feedback. They are not obliged to do any of that, but they do.
Although there is undeniable it would be nice to have some functionalities in the game better or different, let's not pretend it's a critical problem, a matter of life or death for the game and a doomsday is coming. Because it is not.
