Yeah, they did a full 180 on their "tech demo" narrative. Lots of forum white knights have egg on their faces now.

Odyssey should have been released as a standalone game not as a dlc of horizons and thus keep them separate. much better than the mess they prepared.
Now they do, but without maintaining horizons (3.8) with what that entails...

So I guess if you buy ED (without Odyssey) after update 14, client 3.8 will be an optional download. They'll have to revise the system requirements on Steam though to reflect the new situation.

I am not too worried on the whole - the game has evolved over the many years it has been running. New hardware needed is expected - same as any other game or game franchise however, the Frontier API and things that rely on it...
Inara, EDSM, etc. Will there be a separate API for each version AT LAUNCH so that we are not losing data?

Yes, Inara will be ready for the galaxy split at launch. There however won't be two versions for the galaxy data, just live version (no final decision about the legacy/live commander data yet).

They may also want to consider either pulling the console versions from their respective stores, or slap on a huge disclaimer to make it clear what players that are in the market for a live MMO space game will get themselves into with Elite going forward.

The Steam review section particularly for the base game should be an interesting read over the next few weeks and months...

On a more personal note, I wish I had never bought an Alt ... seems like we're getting exactly that now, for free and with the added benefit of being able to use all cosmetic items of your main account (I'm trying to see the positives here okay?).

All these initiatives related to aliens end up so comically and stupidly that it begins to seem that the FD are trying to integrate the Monty Python universe into the game lore...

At least we can have fun while killing murder flowers.

Just 10 a.m. there... I bet some of them are not even in the office yet. You will get your black paint eventually in 4 hours.

Does anyone know what a Odyssey testing permit is?

Anything at least partially related to the Elite:Dangerous, but doesn't exactly fit the Game talk thread. Elite community, astrophysics and so on...
