Class 1 thermal-resistant bi-weaves would actually work! Almost no loss of shield strength but even more speed gain! Didn't expect that.

Apparently there's no difference in recharge rates between class 1 and 3 bi-weave generators. This is surprising because higher classes do recharge faster. So in most cases it makes sense to equip the largest possible bi-weave, but not here!

For this to work the way it does, the interaction between shield generator and shield reinforcement package is key. On a Courier, a class 3 generator with a class 1 SRP is better than a class 1 generator with a class 3 SRP. On an Adder it's worse. That makes perfect sense, as the SRP's contribution is constant and does not depend on hidden ship stats. I never thought of this before because I never bothered to engineer small ships other than the Courier.

Fortunately the class 1 bi-weave can be purchased in the bubble. I was worried I'd have to travel to Colonia again.

Speaking of ship builds and ganking, I still need to complete my ganker annoyer and see how well it works out. It's a Viper MkIII engineered for maximum speed (744m/s cruise, 932m/s boost) with only an FSD interdictor on it. If a player is ganking others, use the interdictor on it to pull them out of supercruise, then immediately turn around and run away before they can get their hardpoints deployed. Engage supercruise again and once the ganker goes back into supercruise, interdict them again effectively keeping them interdiction locked.

It'll work fine - I used to have a build like that although without interdictor - on paper all good, but in reality those players will cop on quickly and just block you if you keep interdicting them. And the more experienced gankers won't pull you either because meme speed builds are easy to spot in SC and from the ganker's perspective just a waste of time. Though it can be fun at engineer bases (if ganking at those is still a thing... whenever I visit one they're usually deserted) because it's a bit more challenging to escape given 180 degrees are blocked off by the planet.

The other downside of a speed Viper 3 (compared to say the iCourier) is that it's very much a one trick pony - you go really fast but you're stripped down to nothing so can't really do much with it apart from hooning (or the above). I tried to have one as an FC based exploration/planet lander type ship, but even just installing the SRV bay costs too much in terms of weight and therefore speed, so settled for the iCourier as my speedboy ship of choice, as it can take a few stray hits and allows for a fair bit of utility in terms of outfitting.

That is a cardboard build. 932m/s cannot outrun rails.

Agree. Viper Mk III can have speed or reasonable shields, but not both.

As a ganker-trolling meme build, nothing beats the Courier. It's almost as if FDev designed it for that purpose.

Also important: You don't need to make it a one-trick pony. An explorer Courier with SRV hangar and some light-weight weapons for PvE is still fast and tough enough to run away from pretty much anything. Just add a 1D interdictor to it and you're ready to go.

My Courier is my on-foot mission runner. Fitted 3 small Adv Missile Racks (engineered for lightweight, as most everything else) and got plenty of ammo to clear settlements, and it's also a mat gatherer in space, with collector limpet and a wake scanner. No SRV bay as I don't need it on that ship and it hurts too much in terms of speed. Boosts to about 825m/s and it's not even fully G5'd everywhere, while jumping 35LY+.

Shame the cockpit is so glitchy in Odyssey, where the lighting often changes suddenly for no obvious reason.

Will definitely take this into consideration. I got a free iCourier a while back from one of the CG's that I still have yet to do anything with. Might be my next build.

The reflective dashboard the Courier got in Odyssey is horrible. But I noticed the Adder has the same problem.



"Flight control, am I above the pad or not?"


Let's just be grateful that FDev doesn't build real space ships.
