That should have been ED: O info, but I liked the result.

This could mean that they've decided to split the universe and keep the old Horizons client around, at least until Odyssey gets stabilized and released on consoles. Interesting.

cool i guess if odyssey turns out to be a corpse in need of reviving after being dosed with a enhancement drug we can go back to pre drugged non-corpse.

Thanks for the heads up. Those forums are a spicy place aren't they.

In a nutshell, PC Horizons and Odyssey clients will have separate instances until an upgrade happening at the same time as the Console release. At that point Horizon and Odyssey players can mingle freely (but not cross-platform) with one another within their software functions (Horizon players won't be able to get out of their ships).

That translates to "we know new planetary tech is bonkers with just SRV, so we decided the alpha will continue after launch"

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yup, they basically admit that the Odyssey client won't be stable enough to replace the old client on May 19th. Release day will actually be the start of a public beta, with the old client as a fallback option.

Good news and bad news at the same time, I guess. At least we can continue playing while they continue fixing stuff.

... or they just want to give more people an incentive to buy Odyssey for all the new shiny stuff. Let's see next week.

They never get a big update roll out right, but they do get better every time.
Well, at least seem to try harder to do a good job.

I'm happy Elite is still being expanded instead of more monetised.
Watches space for how many pointless cosmetics I’ll buy now people can see my avatar.

Undercut my support for Fdev quite a bit there really.

I don't mind their change of plans. I'll buy the DLC and some cosmetics anyway. My main concern after the alpha was that its bugs would spill over into the base game. By keeping the old client around, they've prevented that.

Meanwhile, FDev's forum is melting down. Fanbois be like, "Nooooo! It's not a beta! Stop calling it beta!"

I bet the next video of the most salty CC will be extremely toxic.

Important note: they are offering refunds of preorders so get er done while you can!

I'm still looking forward to the 'same things to do but in a space suit' game play. Can't say it was worth the extra for early access, but I enjoyed it enough to want to play more.

I'm Eager to try it on GeForceNow as well because my PC wasn't up to the task.

And the same trolls go to the forum to argue a release is beta...

As I just happen to be one of those "Fanbois" who can tell the difference

I loved the Odyssey alpha PVP experience. I likened it to Space Tarkov because the conflict between my settlement missions and other commanders who showed up created some really interesting emergent dynamics. Sometimes I would avoid them and try to get my mission and get out.

Other times we'd try to take each other out. Sometimes it would interrupt my looting and cost me a lot of loot. I would like them to make people drop inventory weapons and items for looting/selling to make PVP profitable like in Tarkov, but at least there was base loot to defend and get to the SRV and the ship to get out alive with it in one piece. I had a particularly memorable interaction with a commander who came upon me mid-looting of a station I had disabled security for. We fought and he chased me into my ship.

I blew up his ship so he summoned an APEX and I blew that one up and the next one after that. So he got big brained and enabled the turrets to chase me away. I got out with 2% hull and 07d his winning play. That is what made alpha worth it for me. If they can nail the performance optimization and bugs by launch I'll be happy with an expansion on that core dynamic.

I think there are a lot of areas that remain unfinished scaffoldings for future content (xenobiology, base blueprints, ship interiors, and so on) but the possibilities of all those things being developed over time as we saw with updates to Horizons has me very excited about the future of Elite.

I've been hitting up my Tarkov squadmates to get them into Elite so we can hit the settlements on release day and see what full team vs team foot/SRV/ship/base PVP can be.

Here's footage of my very first organic PVP odyssey encounters in which I started strong on foot and get the tables turned when we took to the air.

Separate clients, separate galaxies (except for BGS), no shared instances. If this isn't a public beta, what would a public beta look like in your opinion?

I don't care what they call it, but I appreciate they're doing it. We need to test the client that's actually going to get released, not a stale build from several weeks ago. Would you be happier if they forced an unfinished client onto the part of the player base that has no interest in foot play and hasn't bought Odyssey?

I took a lot of flak for suggesting this, so excuse me if I go back to the forum and troll you guys a little.
