It wouldn't be so bad if the failure didn't return you a step back.

EpisparhOh, this exo biologist stuff is such a BS. I am sure some special CMDRs will like it.

This is an awesome shot by the way. Deserves more shinies!

For Alpha phase 3 I went ahead and did a performance test. My hope is no optimization has been done yet. I used space gameplay only to keep it in line with the live service as I wanted to get a bare baseline prior to the 4th alpha phase, just in case optimizations make their way into that build. Posting here for anyone that is curious since I haven't seen anyone trying to measure a pre optimization pass baseline.

I had the following settings:

Textures: High
Shadows: Ultra
Bloom: Off
Anti Alias: Off
Supersampling: 1.0
Ambient Occlusion: Medium
Environment: Ultra
FX: Low
Depth of Field: Off
Material: Ultra
Galaxy map: High
Terrain: Ultra
LOD Blending: Ultra
Terrain Work: Highest
Terrain Material: Medium
Terrain Sampler: High
Jet Cone: Medium
Volumetric: Low

PC specs: 6th gen i7 without an overclock, 32gb ram, 2080 TI, SSD

Base game performance for Vive Pro VR :
Headset spec is 2880 x 1600 which steam upscales at 100% render scale by 1.4x thus it is called stock 1.4
Supersample 1.7125 is stock plus 150% render scale modifier, this is roughly equal to 1.25x hmd scale setting in game.

Stock Base Game 45 fps cap: 39% GPU usage max, consistent performance
Stock Odyssey 45 fps cap: 58% GPU usage max, consistent performance

Stock Base Game 90 fps cap: 58% GPU usage max, consistent performance
Stock Odyssey 90 fps cap: 100% GPU usage max, somewhat consistent performance, some drops

Supersample 1.7125 Base Game 45 fps cap: 58% GPU usage max, consistent performance
Supersample 1.7125 Odyssey 45 fps cap: 91% GPU usage max, consistent performance

Supersample 1.7125 Base Game 90 fps cap: 93% GPU usage max, consistent performance
Supersample 1.7125 Odyssey 90 fps cap: Not Achievable in Phase 3

On foot gameplay has far more overhead and achieved capped performance in the Stock Odyssey 45 fps test. Of note is that the mission board screen while on foot uses a lot of GPU power for some reason when it's being used by the player.

In the base game I'm currently using the Supersample 1.7125 45 fps config. I found that it was better to force reprojection (with motion smoothing off) than it was to try to hit 90 fps across stations, planets, etc. Planets are way more taxing than stations, stations are way more taxing than space.

Yeah your logic follow here. I get 15-20 fps in surface regardless of actions happening (Confict zones have the same fps as a settlement in peace or even abandoned), 20-30 in stations regardless of type (15-20 on surface stations but that is probably from the surface fps somehow loading into surface stations), and 90 to even 100 in space. Its a actual full jump in performance when i get into space its pretty nuts.

Am I missing something? The new System Map do not provide information for biological/geological, am I wrong?

Has anyone else taken a salvage mission, only to scoop up the required cargo which does not appear in your hold?

Yes it is a bug.

The Artemis suits in the Odyssey trailer look different from the ones we have in the alpha right now. Apparently that huge piece of torso armor which comes with the suit can be removed. Also, NPCs are wearing many variations of that suit, not only differing in color but also in design details (chest plates, shoulder pads, belts, etc.). That makes me curious about upcoming suit customization options. Sadly these are not part of the alpha yet.

One thing I dislike about Odyssey is the reduced brightness of stellar objects. It makes the game almost unplayable in a room that isn't as dark as the cockpit of an Apex shuttle. If you like to play ED during the day, you'd better take your computer to the basement when Odyssey drops.

Oh that's a lovely sight.

You prefer the dark look?

Clear and brighter look is the one I prefer.

Rings around planets are all but invisible as well depending on the lighting. Ones that used to be absolutely glorious to look at are almost like glass and ones in the distance (in direct light) look like an LED night sun
