Elite: Odyssey

2 year hiatus while 2/3rd of the way to Colonia. Stopped on the Colonia highway to try out Odyssey. Wow I suck.

Figured out that courier missions are just drop off and or pick up and then steal everything not nailed down. Barge the buildings, warehouses, same same. Steal steal steal.

Ive started doing scavenger pickups and its slow going but I am getting better every mission. I have gotten lucky and found a couple level 2 items in the store.

Is there a list of any stations that do suit or weapon upgrades, or is it all done by Engineers only?

Reactivation missions are even better for that because you get Level 3 access up front, can loot everything without risking a fine/bounty, and often don’t even have to fight anyone

Upgrades are done at Pioneer Supplies at pretty much any station.
Modifications are done by Engineers only.

How to describe “fun” in Odyssey.

Land at settlement of which you’re not familiar with the layout with some scavengers around, think you’re just going to clear them out. So you get rid of a few and then the game decides it’s not enough and spawns another 12 on top of the mission ones that weren’t fully cleared out yet.

Kill most of those and get shot down because of “Bugfeature” where sometimes the otherwise dreadfully shitty Executioner magically decides to bypass your shield and do 5000 extra damage. Get teleported to prison ship because of the game’s technical debt in anything that is Odyssey related.

Have my flipping and flipped middle finger.

Kasumi GotoHow to describe “fun” in Odyssey....

My typical MO for any type of ground fighting against NPCs:
Land, deploy SRV, park SRV away from where the baddies spawn
Jump on top of a structure without any stairs and rain Hell down on the NPC baddies. Because they have no idea how to jump, they cannot get on top of a structure that does not have stairs leading to where you are.
For fun, only use a pistol so you have to reload and restock ammo more often.

My particular "fun" is not paying attention after the battle to see if any of the defensive turrets are red. Lifting off and getting immediately hammered is always surprising, particularly since I tend to use small ships for ground missions and turrets can jack up the little guys in short order.

Didn’t exactly have an opportunity to jump on top of somewhere unscathed during the encounter…

… and if I’d had even a Scarab with me I’d have shot the idiot scavengers from there. But I was lazy and in an AX-built ship on my alt, doing activations in post-Thargoid recovery, so, yeah.

I highly recommend the Odyssey Map Guide (OMG) created by Cmdr Quizengine. It has mapped every settlement, categorized by type (Agri, Extraction etc) Once you have identified which settlement you are in it shows the location of important things like alarms, security levels for access and info terminals. For missions it is a real game changer.

In terms of settlement buildings I know that CMD is the command building and HAB is habitat but what are the rest? RES and STO etc?
I'm new to Odyssey...

I think RES is Research, STO is Storage, IND is Industrial, PWR is obviously Power.

Perfect, thank you. o7

I'm trying to sneak into settlements to gather on-foot engineering materials and it seems that all my years as Solid Snake and Sam Fisher haven't provided any benefits.
Any tips?

I dunno about Solid Snake but I have spent many happy hours as Sam Fisher, fulfilling Lambert's instructions and teasing Grim.

First tip I can give is regarding your Maverick suit. First upgrade should be XL Backpack, less time spent transferring goods and data. Second upgrade my preference is for Quieter Footsteps. If I guess right you, like me, like the sneaky approach? Quieter Footsteps are a massive help in that case!

Second tip is patience, NPCs usually follow set routes and timing your moves is crucial.

Third, Manticore Tormentor sidearm and Executioner sniper rifle. Primary upgrades should be the first silenced for indoor use, the second silenced for outdoors.

Lastly I refer you to my post earlier on this string regarding Cmdr Quizengine's genius Settlement guide. I habitually have it open on a second screen whilst I'm raiding settlements, it makes navigation a doddle and provides valuable tips on the best way to obtain security clones.

It took a long, long process of failure and frustration to master settlement operations, but I deem it worth the effort. Many players do not like the gameplay and are loudly critical, I guess it depends on individual preferences. Personally I enjoy the break from purely space centred activities now and again.

Only take restore missions for damaged/abandoned settlements. You are given level three access and once you restart the power, loot everything at your leisure. You'll need a maverick suit to cut your way into the power building. The only NPCs are the occasional scavengers that show up, and you'll get paid bounties for taking them out. No sneaking, no fines. Just lootin' and shootin'

Adding to the above: and if you prefer to avoid the risk of on-foot combat with scavengers, fit two dumbfire missile launchers to your ship and blast the scavengers from above.

(OTOH, if you do fancy the on-foot combat, be sure to profile-scan the dead bodies; most will confer extra bounty credits.)

Perfekt, danke. o7

Ich versuche, mich in Siedlungen zu schleichen, um zu Fuß Ingenieursmaterial zu sammeln, und es scheint, dass all meine Jahre als Solid Snake und Sam Fisher keine Vorteile gebracht haben.
Irgendwelche Tipps?

If you want to farm undisturbed in settlements, go to star systems that have just been restored by Thargoid invasions.
All settlements there are shut down and abandoned. You only need an energy regulator to restart the reactor.
You can then download data undisturbed from data terminals and farm in all buildings. Finally the reactor
Shut down again and remove the energy regulator. Have fun

Indeed, systems in the Post-Thargoid Recovery state with abandoned Odyssey settlements offer AX Reactivation missions (*) which are done the same way as regular reactivation missions but tend to pay better, especially in terms of materials; and these missions can be taken from station services if there is no station with active concourse available.

However, these missions quite often do not provide a power regulator (the title will say “Find a power regulator …” if that is the case), requiring the player to have one already; and while scavengers appear to be a less frequent occurrence in AX Reactivation missions than in regular reactivation missions, they can show up, so be prepared.

(*) Not to be confused with Hostile Reboot missions which also have “AX Reactivation” in the title but are in the Operations category (rather than Support) and should be offered in systems in the Thargoid Alert or Invasion states; AFAIK these missions have not been seen since Update 18.06.
