Elite roleplay: The docks

THE DOCKS (Dockyards)

The Docks is where all pilots berth their ships. It is the first place that pilots find themselves upon landing their ship. Docking and launching is controlled by the Citi Gateway’s Traffic Controllers while each individual dock is controlled by a dockmaster and a team of orange clad dock crew workers.

The Docks is a sparse and desolate, 0.1G environment, littered with service vehicles, cranes and landing pads. While cool, the air is dry and lightly filled with the smell of burnt metal and ship grease. Public Service Announcements blare across the the docks reminding all pilots of station regulations. The docks contain 45 individual ship docks, several warehouses storing massive tank of hydrogen fuel, and standard shipping containers of cargo, the dock’s traffic control tower and the local pilot’s market which resides in one of the warehouses.

Ship docks
Each specific dock has a landing pad, a ship hangar and adjoining terminal. In each terminal there is a passenger waiting area, the dockmaster’s control tower and several dock crew vehicle bay.

Warehouses
If the docks were already unpopulated, warehouses would be completely vacant of anyone if not for a small handful of security staff. Warehouses are completely automated and highly guarded facilities as they contain massive amounts of valuable and flammable material.
"Loitering is a crime punishable by death" - Station Announcements

Pilot's Market
The pilot’s market is best described as a tourist trap for pilots. Every person who’s not a pilot is trying to guile a pilot to part with their credits.

"The station administrators would like to remind all pilots that transactions in the pilot’s market are not protected by Citi Gateway or The Bank of Zaonce" - station announcements

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

A dark blue python drifts slowly towards the mail slot of Citi Gateway. The pilot had a helluva time getting there being interdicted every system he jumped to he welcomed even a small respite from the black.

"This is the SMS Bloody Eagle requesting docking permission from Citi Gateway." "This is Citi Gateway flight control docking access granted proceed to pad 05 Have a good stay Commander" "Thank you flight control have a good day." As my docking computer kicked on and proceeded to land I stood from my chair and took stock of the situation.

While sustaining minor damage the Bloody Eagle had made it at an overall of 86% hull intact. Good. I disembarked my ship and told the ground crew to "Repair, refuel and rearm. I won't be in this station for more than a couple days." Yes, commander willco." I turned and walked towards the pilots market passing a silver haired commander and an auburn haired one exchanging words. "Huh, wonder what that's about" I get closer to see if i recognize either of the pilots. I didn't but why not say hello. "Hello commanders. Am I interrupting something?" I smirk slightly.

The large man brought the cup up to his mouth and took a sip. He savored the flavour enjoying the complexity of it. is blue eyes peered over the cup watching Bryan turn his needlework project over in his fingers. Stryker wondered what it was that Bryan found interesting in it.

He stayed quiet as he watched Bryan's brows work in contemplation; finding it a bit amusing, but also wondered what was going on through his mind. What thoughts he had about the modified injection system? True, the bulk of the system had remained untouched. Relativity stock. What did change was a small terminal inlet that fed the gas into the reaction chamber. Normally it was smooth. But in this case, Stryker added a series of grooved teeth. The idea was to help prevent eddying in the gas stream, which, decreased the amount of hydrogen wasted thus increasing efficiency, but the trade off, it would run hotter. The underside then had an additional heat sink to blow the heat off. But it was quite unconventional.

Less fuel for the same jump range, but there posed a risk of catastrophic failure. This is why he needed a fresh pair of eyes. It was all too common to overlook ones mistake; practically blind to it. But with another set...

Stryker brought the cup up for another slow sip still watching. Quiet and patient for Bryan to complete his assessment. Slowly, he set the cup down gently on the table.

Smirking as each message came through, Dasha decided to wait till her new companion made an appearance rather than respond right away. She apparently had the time to waste now anyway. Taking in the sights and all the ships as she waited, Dasha let out a sigh of relief. It really had been a hell of a day, or was it longer? Sometimes she found it had to tell out away from it all. It didn't help when the ships clock decided to start counting backwards either.

Spinning on her heels, hands still tucked behind her head, Dasha watching as her company for the time being approached out of one of the docks in front of his descending ship. Firethorn was a fair bit taller than herself, although that wouldn't have been hard for many people, and looked a little older. Looks could be deceptive though given the prevalence of progenitor technology these days.

"Hey no problem. Figured it would be nice to talk to someone who doesn't want to see me spaced for a while, haha!" Dasha joked, raising her hand towards Firethorn. "Dasha, Dasha Giyari." She said, before glancing at the oil stains covering her flight suits gloves and awkwardly retracting her hand.

"Sorry." she muttered, pressing a few keys on her suits comms unit before it let out a light hiss as the pressurisation released, and unzipped around her collar and torso revealing a black cropped tank top underneath. Slipping her arms out and pulling the suit around her waist, Dasha tied it's sleeves messily around her waist before extending her hand once more.

"Could do with a clean up I guess..." she chuckled quietly.

Dasha glanced over her shoulder as another pilot approached her pad, although his time she wasn't expecting them. Luckily she didn't recognise the newcomer as any of her previous or future marks, at least not right away.

"Just new into the station and my ship needed extensive repairs, so decided to have some down time with this lucky fellow!" she smiled playfully. "Not sure he realises how lucky he is getting to spend time with little old me though, honestly he's in for a treat." Dasha joked, adding a few over the top winks complete with a nod of the head and some finger guns.

Smirking, Adam watched her wiggle out of a part of her suit and tie it around her waist. He held a hand out, extended for the gesture which he might have taken either way, clean or not. Reaching forward he gripped her palm and gave her hand a welcoming shake. "Adam Firethorn, a pleasure to meet you." He stated with a friendly and warm grin. "Spaced, well I don't think you'd have to worry about that here! Although, you never know. I'm not sure whose feathers you've gone and ruffled." Adam laughed and shot her a wink before releasing her hand and putting it back into the pockets of his brown leather jacket. He gave it a brief tug and adjusted the collar a bit around his neck. "About time I get a new one of these. Might need to look into the market. And I haven't checked recently but with that last batch of data I dropped off I could very well have gone up in ranking."

His gaze briefly shifted around for a moment before falling back upon her. "I'm sure you can find  a place to clean up." A lazily hand motioned over his shoulder in an aimless direction. "Probably a few public places you can rent for a night or two or however long you're staying...I'd let you use the Orchid but she'd getting detailed and cleaned. Doubt you'd want to be stepping around those ground crews whilst scrubbing down."

Adam then shifted his glance toward the new pilot who approached, offering a grin and a slight wave of his hand. For the moment, he let Dasha do the introduction before he finally spoke up at her light-hearted banter. A slightly egotistical smirk ran across his lip before the words left his mouth. "Oh, believe me. I know how lucky I am, Dasha." Adam aimed one of those finger guns back at her and fired. "Haven't been in human space in months, get invited out for drinks right when I land. That's what I call a treat. It'll just be a question of who is buying first."

The explorer turned to newcomer more fully, nodding as he introduced himself with an extended hand. "Adam, a pleasure to meet you...?" His words trailed off slightly in question, waiting for the man to respond with his own name.

"Mathias, Mathias Brooker pleasure is mine." Taking his hand in a firm handshake and smiling "Drinks eh, well if you don't mind me tagging along I'll buy a round or two. Just got back from a lengthy combat mission that pissed a few people off so I'm lying low here why not have some company eh?." I smiled at the both of them they seemed friendly enough. One can never have too many friends especially when I'm a little low on them right now. "But of course if you want me to leave I can." I have always been a little nervous meeting new people especially since you never know what they're truly thinking about you.

This taking so looooong.

Leif sighed, then rose his arms up and stretched in his seat.
Neither did he find any passengers that wanted to go the direction he wanted nor paying enough to take a step out of his way. Not worth moving the Beluga Liner.

Ah, well, I could go and take a walk while I wait for Bryan anyway.

He called up the comms panel and typed out: "Going for a walk around the station. Take your time, but if you head for my ship again, let me know."
After sending the message to Bryan, he got up quickly from his seat and headed for the exit.
The door opened with a hiss and Leif left the ship, locking the hangar behind him once again.

"Thanks for the offer anyway. As for ruffled feathers, well it could surprise you... think I'll be fine here though." Das said in repsonse to the offer of a shower. She knew how awkward things could be with ground crews all around.

As their third participant introduced himself, Das gave him a grin and extended her hand.

"Nonsense! You'd be more than welcome to join, Mathias. I know how well a drink goes down after combat ops. Just back from a bounty myself." she explained, shaking Mathias' hand.

Looking around for a signpost or a map, Das caught sight of a waypoint towards the station's watering hole. It didn't seem like to far a journey, and it was bound to be better stocked than whatever happened to be in the pilots market. In her experience those kind of polaces always seemed to revolve around "sorry we're out of that just now, how about this instead?" Fine if you were in for a quick refreshment, not so fine if you were looking to relax and unwind.

"Alrighty then, shall we? There's a pint of whatever beer this corner of the galaxy has with my name on it." she laughed, walking backwards towards the apparent direction of the bar.
08 May 2017, 1:38pm
Following her lead Mathias proceeded to head towards the bar a little behind her. Her friendly manner reminded him somewhat of an old friend he had.

Samantha was a pilot he had met in a ground station at a bar. They had hit it off, becoming fast friends and maybe would have become even closer if she hadn't died escaping a combat zone with Mathias. She took the brunt of the enemy fire before that, she figured she was protecting her friend, but she was loyal to a fault and took to much damage to her FSD and couldn't jump out and she died in a fireball when her Fer' exploded. Mathias had searched the wreckage at the site where she died looking for an occupied escape pod holding onto the hope that she had ejected in time but he never found anything.

Mathias stopped for a quick second looking at the ground then continued. Maybe getting drunk would help him forget her at least for little while. These people seemed like good company. I'll do something for Samantha's family after I'm done drinking and resting here I'll tell them and pay for a funeral even though there will be no body.
08 May 2017, 2:14pm
Following closely behind, Adam took a spot just behind the other two. He stuffed his hands into his jacket pockets and let out a small laugh at the mention of a "beer with a name on it." Rolling his shoulder beneath his shirt and brown coat he spoke, ushering them forward with an encouraging nod. "No time to waste then." Adam called out. "First thing for me is a glass of water, I can taste it already. Then might take someone up on a beer or two." He couldn't help but let a smug grin cross his lips. It had been -quite- some time since his last beverage.

He stepped onward, briefly pausing as he watched Mathias stop for the briefest of moments. Adam glanced toward Dasha and then back to the other man, curling his lips off to the side curious as he raised a brow before moving forward and speaking up again as if to hurry everyone along. "I guess I'll be buying first then?" Adam called out, stepping through the hall and deeper into the station.
08 May 2017, 4:29pm
"Oh? An offer I can't refuse!" Dasha laughed as Adam put himself forward for the first round. Things were looking up, the two men seemed like they wouldn't be trouble which was a definite plus. Snaking into the stations corridors, Dasha led the trio towards one of the many transport lifts and keyed in their destination's floor.

12 May 2017, 12:03am
While in transit to the docking bays, he establish a short range burst transmission while paralyzing the receiver's remlok suit in the last position.

"A little skeptical, are you? Do you have any idea of who I am, Mister Finn De Leyr? I get access to your data slate from the pilot's federation...You're a salvager, interesting."

Finn: "And who the hell are you?"

The Imperial Duke you called A "'You're our billionst customer, win a free trip to Sol by clicking on this link.' scammer." In other condition, I would probably use your Remlok suit to electrocute you. Fortunatley for you, I'm feeling generous.

Finn:Generous?

"You know, I never sent a message to someone for no reason, I'm looking for mercenaries researcher and salvagers to help me in my researches and some other other projects. Still skeptical? Why don't you go to my workshop at Stevenson and see by yourself? your friend have the coordinates. If you go there, .I'll give you more details about the job If you changed your mind.

Oh by the way tell your friend there's a group of pirates attempting to do hijack every ships on the station authorities are on their at landing bays you and your friend should go to your ships as fast as you could and get ready to hold your landing pad until they arrive, hurry they will start the heist at any moment."

he cut the transmission and move to the ship's landing pad but just before reach the entrance he saw a group of about 20 people entering the area he's heading on except three of them who stay to watch the entrance. when he looks at them, he immediatly recognize the Kumo crew symbol on their relmok's shoulder pad, "Wreak havoc, and let slip the dogs of war." he whisper while taking his Blade out of the sheath and charge up his plasma revolver.

Kumo crew pirate lord: "Did you manage to open the ship, yet?"
Heister : "No, boss, nothing works, it looks it more protected than the others."
KC. Pirate lord: "We did not have any problem with other ships, so why this one? Now, just open the damn ship by any mean necessarry!"
Heister: "Aye."
Watcher : "Boss! Boss! Do you read me?"
KC Pirate Lord: "Yeah what is it?
Watcher: "We got a -parasites- Problem!"
KC Pirate Lord: "The Cops?!"
Watcher: "No! It's not the Cops -Parasites- Steve and Cherub get killed! He's got op-Parasite*lage...They ha -Parasites- sliced of! Now he's after me! I'm going back to the...Son of a....-Static-"
At the same time, they heard some gunshots from the hangar entrance , when they turn around, they see Ed get projected to the ground and fall unconscious, they see a silhouette with a sword starting to decloaking walking toward Ed and look at the unconscious Kumo Crew watcher's "Oh you poor thing, I barely touched you..." say benevolant as the door behind close down.
Then look directly to the rest of the pirates. "Get him, boys!" scream the pirate leader. But before they can open fire, the hangar's power generator went shut down, leaving the area in nearly pitch black "what happens to the lights, get the flares!" and then they hear a distant echo "I hope like pain."

The doors of the lift parted, allowing the crowd to disperse from the confines. Isaiah made a gesture with his hand, encouraging Phisto to follow him.

"I can't promise she's gonna look like a million credits," he said as they walked along the corridors that linked the hangar bays together. "I'm making sure she's in good shape before I... leave." He hadn't intended to dwell on the choice of word for so long, but he knew Phisto would understand his meaning. "She's one tough ship though, and a little tender loving care goes a long way."
14 May 2017, 12:02am
Phisto nodded.  "Looks ain't nothing to a ship."  He gently jabbed Isaiah on the shoulder.  "It's that little fleshy thing inside that makes it count."

Breathing deep, Phisto smiled.  The strange old man and tasks before them weighed on his mind, but the idea of Isaiah showing him Bloodfeather cheered him up immensely.  Among his people, the Sobanii, one's ship was an extension of themselves.  It was no small thing to share it with another person.  Even though his clan considered everyone in it family, often this act of care was only done between the very closest friends or lovers.  He looked over to Isaiah.  Phisto knew Isaiah likely didn't put the same emotional weight on showcasing a ship.  Few did, and in his travels Phisto had quickly accustomed to this difference in culture.

Regardless, it was good to have a friend.

"So," Phisto said, "I've not really met a ship with VI like yours.  Please don't be put off if I seem a little jumpy."
14 May 2017, 12:25am
"Well, throw out whatever preconceived notions you might have about how a VI ought to act," Isaiah said, leading on to the hangar bay where Bloodfeather was berthed. The sounds of the crews working on the ship echoed through the cavernous room, and as the door opened on the catwalk overlooking it, Isaiah was struck by the sight.

The outer hull panels had been stripped off and laid aside, with various maintainers inspecting each panel. The superstructure of the ship was exposed as a similar scene unfolded on the ship itself. The telltale sparks and strobe flashes of welders gave Isaiah the impression that his ship wasn't in such good shape after all.

"Something tells me she's gonna be a little embarrassed to be seen without her clothes on," Isaiah remarked, giving a low whistle. "Then again..."
14 May 2017, 12:49am
Phisto whistled low, then laughed softly, "...I've seen worse, clothed or otherwise." Giving a sideways glance and a wink, Phisto bounded ahead of Isaiah, taking in the sight. "Aren't these things amazing? Fast, armed to the teeth, and so damn pretty to boot." Phisto spun around and looked back at Isaiah. His arms were out wide, like he might try to take off all on his own.

He dropped his hands and smiled. "Says a lot you forget all about the piss poor jump range, don't you think?"
