Elite roleplay: The docks

THE DOCKS (Dockyards)

The Docks is where all pilots berth their ships. It is the first place that pilots find themselves upon landing their ship. Docking and launching is controlled by the Citi Gateway’s Traffic Controllers while each individual dock is controlled by a dockmaster and a team of orange clad dock crew workers.

The Docks is a sparse and desolate, 0.1G environment, littered with service vehicles, cranes and landing pads. While cool, the air is dry and lightly filled with the smell of burnt metal and ship grease. Public Service Announcements blare across the the docks reminding all pilots of station regulations. The docks contain 45 individual ship docks, several warehouses storing massive tank of hydrogen fuel, and standard shipping containers of cargo, the dock’s traffic control tower and the local pilot’s market which resides in one of the warehouses.

Ship docks
Each specific dock has a landing pad, a ship hangar and adjoining terminal. In each terminal there is a passenger waiting area, the dockmaster’s control tower and several dock crew vehicle bay.

Warehouses
If the docks were already unpopulated, warehouses would be completely vacant of anyone if not for a small handful of security staff. Warehouses are completely automated and highly guarded facilities as they contain massive amounts of valuable and flammable material.
"Loitering is a crime punishable by death" - Station Announcements

Pilot's Market
The pilot’s market is best described as a tourist trap for pilots. Every person who’s not a pilot is trying to guile a pilot to part with their credits.

"The station administrators would like to remind all pilots that transactions in the pilot’s market are not protected by Citi Gateway or The Bank of Zaonce" - station announcements

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

Maul watched with a horribly hidden grin on his face as Silas inspected his hand.

"Prolly gave the guy watching the monitors a good scare with that one." Maul said, laughing.

Just then the security door opened to 3 armed and armored guards pointing their weapons at Silas and Maul. Maul's ship could be seen in the hangar behind the guards heads.

Maul threw his hands over his head and sighed.

"Fuck."

The guard in the middle lowered his weapon.

"Now..." The guard said as he began to remove his helmet to reveal himself. He was an average looking guy with what looked like a fresh buzzcut and neatly trimmed goatee.

"...we're even. You dumb bastard." The man said looking at Maul.

The other two guards lowered their weapons and stepped aside in a relaxed manner.

"Fucking Darius! It's about time man!" Maul lowered his hands and glanced at Silas before continuing.

"If you'd have responded when we were back at that security gate, we could have avoided all of this."

Darius rolled his eyes.

"You seriously expect me to be able to respond that fast? Maybe if you hadn't escalated the situation we-" Darius stopped himself from getting any more heated. "Listen, I appreciate you helping me a few months back but this is it, okay? No more favors."

Maul reluctantly nodded and rolled his eyes as well.

"Yeah man, no more favors."

Darius looked at Silas and slowly ran his eyes down to SIlas' scratched up hand.

"You've got quite the rap sheet on this station. I'll just add that camera to your tab." Darius said with a smirk.

"Alright guys, let's get out of here." Darius called to the other two men.

He looked back at Silas and Maul before departing the hangar.

"As far as I'm concerned, you two we're smuggled off the station aboard and unknown ship. You've got clearance to depart and you'll be anonymous in our systems. Now, if I were you two, I wouldn't show my face around here without clearing these fines first."

Darius and his men began walking across the landing pad and back to the lifts.

"Now get the fuck out of here!" He shouted, his voice reverberating around the hangar.

Maul looked at Silas and nearly deflated from the exhaustion and relief of the situation.

"I'll explain all of that on the trip. Let's get off this goidforsaken station."
09 Dec 2021, 7:40pm
"That other thing was self defense!" Silas shouted after Darius.

"You shot him with a sniper rifle, jackass!" Darius could be heard shouting, putting up a middle finger over his head without turning around, before disappearing behind the closing hangar door.

Silas pictured Maul giving him his own signature raised eyebrow, even though he was avoiding eye contact.

"...it was though. I guess I can explain that on the trip too."

The rest of their time on the station was uncharacteristically uneventful. Silas took the passenger seat to Maul, which was kind of a role reversal since he was used to Maul being a passenger on his own ship.

Takeoff went smoothly. Silas could sense Maul's relief, but he wasn't feeling so relieved himself. This was just the beginning of what was sure to be a pain in the ass.

"Docking request accepted, please proceed to landing pad 2-6." The dry, weary voice bellowed out from the speakers of the instrument panel inside the spacecraft. The Python that was slowly lurching toward the station was painted in a tactical graphite finish and had a dragon's skull breathing fire on the front. The pilot of this ship wanted it clear to all the kinds of jobs he was looking for. The vessel shaped like a viper's head gracefully slithered into the opening of the massive station, toward pad 26.

The windows of the craft were illuminated with a pale yellow glow from the complex instrument panel that resided inside the very large command room. Also inside were two seats made of some sort of synthetic material and had gadgetry and instrument panels attached to them. One chair toward the rear of the room looked quite new, while the other that was front and center, appeared to have years of wear. Stains and crumbs peppered the back rest and joy stick. Next to it was a table that was attached to the floor, with an ashtray on it and a wooden box next to it. The floor of the room looked quite cluttered. Boots lay in the corner along with a flight suit. Food and drink containers littered the area as well as several other stains that matched some that were on the pilot's seat. A tall man with dark brown hair wearing glasses, a white tank top and dark red boxer shorts paced from one end of the room to the other and responded to the speaker, where the dry voice came from.

"Roger, making my way there. Hopefully your bar on station is fully stocked. because the mini fridge situation onboard is not one to be taken lightly." He said with a smirk. "Verity, switch to automated docking sequence, and ask my lovely wife to get me a clean flight suit."

"Your wife is a little upset at the moment..." A robotic, female voice bellowed from the speakers of the instrument panel. "Upset... why??" He asked rhetorically. He knew she found out about the last job he took. Mostly because he often told lies out of convenience, took a "better to ask for forgiveness than for permission" approach to things, and carelessly left evidence of his lies laying around. Rich Aurilen was a great pilot, but as also very arrogant and self centered. He loved his wife. He did everything he could to make sure she was safe and taken care of, but he often took big risks that end in losing a lot of what he gained. Liz mostly just tried to watch his back and make sure he didn't do anything disastrously stupid and reckless.

"Nevermind, Verity Ill go talk to her.... After I get a drink real quick." Rich said as he walked toward what seemed to be an ordinary wall. He tapped on it, which lit a square next to what was eventually a raising door that exposed a closet with various flight suits hung up. Next to the clothes was a panel with a keypad on it. Rich took a suit from the closet, then tapped some numbers into the keypad. The panel then raised similar to the closet door and exposed some high tech weaponry. "Maybe I'll take you along..." He whispered to himself as he grabbed a TK Zenith, closed the panel and tapped the now glowing square, to close the closet door.

The access door to the command deck smoothly raised open to expose a now somewhat put together Cmdr Aurilen. He walked out into the main corridor wearing a maverick suit that sported a dark olive and graphite finish. He slowly made his way to the common area that resided next to the main airlock that separated the inhabitants from the harsh vacuum of space.
"So you have nothing to say for yourself? You're just going to take a job, lie about why we bought that ship, and just... kill again?" A concerned yet angry female voice asked inside the common area, that was slowly being lit by the florescent, motion activated lights above. A woman with long black hair and green eyes sat on the couch, waiting for an answer to her question. Rich stood in the middle of the room and hung his head. "It's much better money than the hauls we've been doing. A lot of those hauls require us to pay full price for the products and then limp to another system, hundreds of lightyears away in some cases, and hope the information in the buy/sell database is correct and up to date." Rich said to the woman on the couch. "Babe, trust me, it's going to be fine. We will not get caught again like last time..." Rich then placed the helmet on his head and twisted it into the threads, locking it into place. He then tapped some buttons on his wrist and lights began to glow inside his helmet and blurred images vaguely resembling vital signs and other data, reflected off of the glass.

"Famous last words..." The woman snapped as hopped up, made her way to the main airlock. They both waited for the ship to finish it's automated docking procedure so they could disembark and make their way toward their respective errands. The woman knew what her husband was up to, but kept quiet. What would it matter for her to speak up? He wasn't going to listen and instead find a way to mess everything up, so he could put forth twice the effort to clean it all up again. It used to amuse her to watch him run that rat race, but it was starting to wear on her. She was beginning to withdraw from him and the plans that they would carelessly drone on about when they were both drunk or high. They were not going to come into fruition as far as she could tell, and Rich was going to continue to play idiot mercenary.

The Python hissed above the landing pad as it slowly settled onto the metal floor of the massive space station. "Docking complete, please watch your step when disembarking and have a wonderful day commander" Verity said as Rich pressed a button on the wall next to the airlock. "Take us below deck, we are coming aboard for some light mischief." He said into a small speaker panel. The ship then jolted suddenly and hissing could be heard outside. The Python began to sink into the space station and disappear from view and a large metal floor similar to the last, closed and raised itself flush. Rich and his wife Liz walk away from each other, and toward doors on two ends of the hangar.

"Oh and Liz, don't get us in a bunch of trouble that I'll have to clean up later on!" Rich shouted with a smirk as he walked toward the elevators to the main concourse and tapped on the up button. Liz whipped her hair slightly and she turned to face him. "Rich, don't go buying a bunch of stupid shit so you have to kill people for money later on just so we can survive all of this..." She responded. Space station crew could be heard chuckling and commenting on the couple as the two left the hangar.
19 Jan 2022, 2:58pm
"Oversized ship... Autodocking every trip..." Rich mumbled under his breath angrily as he walked down the stairs towards the elevators that lead to the docks. He stopped by a small boutique that had more neon signs than necessary, some with the numbers 420 on them and Rich began to look through what was on the windows as if he were looking for something but then hit the call button on the elevators and prepared to head back to the docks. "Got some on board, and anyway, I need a new ship....." Rich thought to himself as he started to get on the elevator. Just when the doors began to close, a hand thrusted its way inside and the doors retracted back open to allow the newcomer to board. "I thought I was going to have to shoot you, I said no more of that, you already have enough! Liz said as she made her way inside the elevators. The doors closed and the two made their way down to the landing pads.

The elevator doors opened to reveal the chaos swarming around the landing pads as people milled around, performing various tasks. Rich and Liz stepped out and they both took in a deep breath. The smell of slightly heated thruster coils and various fluids and lubricants put them at ease and then Rich spoke up. "We're getting a new ship..." Liz stared at him.

"What the hell are you talking about, we just bought this one!" Liz screamed, startling some of the nearby workers and pilots. Rich smiled and nodded. "I know, but I was thinking and that ship is pretty oversized. And we have been doing a lot of autodocking, that module slot could be put to better use on our new Crusader." Liz began to laugh hysterically. "You're just... You're just the dumbest person I've ever met... You're lucky... So lucky my options are very limited right now..." She snapped as she walked towards their old ship and started thinking about the preparations needed to move their belongings onboard the smaller Crusader that Rich was about to buy. Rich watched her head toward pad 26 and shook his head. "she'll learn one day..." He said arrogantly as he turned and headed to the shipyard. Once he made his way to the front desk, he looked around for someone to help him but the lobby was empty. Rich was then drawn to a hologram of an Alliance Crusader in the middle of the lobby seating and he just stared for a moment.

"Yea, we can keep a lot of the same setup and put some cargo holds here. Wake scanner and FSD interdictor here." Rich said to himself as he continued to wait for a representative to help him with a trade in.

"I see you're looking at the versatile crusader. Can I prepare it for you to board so you can have a look?" The representative said as he snuck up and startled Rich. "Oh.. Oh man you um. Snuck up on me there." Rich inspected his kit and became relieved when he noticed all of his weapons were still where he put them. "Yea.. Yea I uh.. I need to trade up. I have an anaconda to trade in and want to get an Alliance Crusader." The rep's eyes widened as he heard this. The Python was much more valuable than the crusader and the rep already begun to scheme as he lead Rich back over to the front desk. "Ok sir right this way, we need to just get some paperwork out of the way."

Several hours pass with the two looking over paper work, inspecting the Anaconda Rich would be trading in, arguing over trade in prices. At one point Rich threatened to walk out on the sale, but the salesperson convinced him to stay. "Ok but I will get a fair trade in for the Anaconda, and a good rate on the Crusader." Rich shouted to the employees. The sales person nodded nervously. "I assure you, this is the best rate we can offer, the Crusader we have here is already fully fitted many modules are A rated and it is more than nimble and capable enough." Rich scoffed when he heard this. "I know what you guys try to do here...." He then quieted down some when he found out the ship was already fitted with a high end loadout. Even though the Anaconda had not depreciated, it was still sub optimally fit, this could be a good deal for Rich after all. "You know on second thought, you guys talked me into it, lets sign the forms and do this." He said as he lead the employees back into their own office to finalize the deal. The employees were dumbfounded but said nothing as they walked with Rich back to their office. This guy has got to be the dumbest guy ever, the Crusader being sold to him was marked way up and with his Python, would only be an even trade at best.

A few moments later Rich left the shipyard with a grin as he folded up an invoice and headed to pad 26 to meet Liz. There was undoubtedly going to be another fight, when she finds out he didn't get to pocket any of the trade in value on the Python.

A green Alliance Cheiftian came into the station. Rob was listening to the news as he parked his ship. He was proud of it and how long and hard he worked for it to be where it was. all the gathering for the guardian materials, all the time spent with engineers, was now finally worth it as he just finished taking out his first group of pirates with it.

Rob walked out of his ship and talked to the combat bond officer to redeem the bounties he had gotten, a couple mil not too bad. After his first bad scrape, he had in his python Rob had slowly been tuning his combat prowess. He wasn't as jumpy and scared as he was before, he could tell when to bring the throttle back and to push it forward. Every battle was a test and he was determined to be able to ace them. Rob then decided to head to the bar for some drink and grub.

Sailen stepped from the platform of his ship and shouted over his shoulder to his AI companion he'd grown so fond of.
"Blu! you're the real one here though! none of this would've worked out, if it wasn't for how you rock that core.
never cease to impress! Thanks again"

The familiar dim lights streaming through the creases of the ship in response.
"It is only by your design sir, but i hold value in your words"

"Blu, I'm just a drunk, that's good at bad luck.
You're just pieces of metal that some drunk threw together in a black out.
I think its way more impressive that some shotty metal can do the things you do"
Sailen chuckled back toward the vessel he held so dear.

"Anyways! Blu, standard lock up procedure, standard day at the bay. I'm gonna go hit the cartographics and cash in my data, then its probably about time i give the old woman a call. Think we found our nitch Blu, and we'd be a lot better off for it if your FSD drive was as new and shiny as your software updates. Don't wait up, you know where ill be tonight. And with a nod of the head and a Farwell wave, He was off down the alley ways to go see his old friend about a wrench.

The Dwarf Wheel's message is still in my head.

I played the video too many times. The code was obvious.

Live is Evil backwards, fast travel in escape pods sounds risky at the hands of those soap dodgers.

Perhaps, death is my gift. The Thargoids are trying to pick us up. Perhaps the meeting will sync us to one of their ships. Black Flight have had some luck with their prisoner.

I wondered how well I know this neighborhood of the Bubble. Made a jump to every system within one jump out of here. Found 7 stars I'd never visited. That's out of 35. And there's a couple of Heylindhs finds that I've not visited. So. I guess two weeks of trading doesn't make you an expert of even a 20 ly radius area. Kind of funny, isn't it?
11 Apr 2022, 12:35pm
Finally invented a name for the replica of Heylindh's exploration Asp X. It'll be called 'HIP 61025', the furthest out it has ever been. That way some tradition of Heylindh's 'Elysian Camper' will be preserved. It's possible it'll fly further out than Heylindh ever went, but that would require a radical change in business plans. I'm quite OK with the current one. Would you believe, my last rich tourist was totally unfazed when I tried to shoot down the interdictor in a Cobra 3 way out in the Bubble. He though ran away, when I deployed the hard points, ha-ha! Probably thought this was a regular passenger vessel.

"Yes, I've been out for a while. It feels good to be back in the Bubble. Despite the Thargs. It gets very lonely, at times, out in the Black with the nearest support vessel Five thousand light years away. And I've not even been in the darkest regions, just corewards from the bubble. Only 5 times there was hassle with the fuel. Yes, I could do a Colonia run. That's part of why I left, to test my resolve for long voyages. But what about you? What brings you here at Russel Sanctuary? "

"F*** these military-governmental-industrial types... And Tiffany as well, ok, but less, for making me do this. I guess I had this coming for being responsible for maintanance of company warships... The dolts of government and military, yes yes the Police Force also gets their ships from them, took about 65% of our last quarter profits and demanded us to outfit the ships for a war. That is what getting too big gets you, as a company, I guess... Still we cannot guarantee the ships will make one iota of difference if the Thargoids decide to swarm here, can't see why that would happen but anyway... Now I got four or five less ships to maintain so less work I guess... in maintanance. Let the military handle them, says Tiffany... Says also keep some if you can. Glad I could talk them out of taking the Mamba and the Chieftain with them as well, said the Mamba could be used as a suicide bomber and that the Chieftain is already fitted against Imperial scum taking slaves from the Alliance-affiliated worlds, so they let them go... Now I'd need to find two or three nutty, but good pilots to do their bidding in Black ops, reconnaissance and spy stuff... God damn them... Why did they have to piss off the Thargoids, we had a lazy job here before... Been flying around in ten systems for 4 days finding the stuff higher ups, including Tiffany, have been recommending... Ever done three runs of 300KLs in two days as the military do not house a shipyard... But on to find those suicidal pilots to fly the reconnaissance and smuggling spies and what not... "

"I said to them Krait is not really a warship, and cannot easily be converted to one by our means, besides, this one is our corporations attempt to go into mining. Had it outfitted for it, what little I understand of mining. Would that interest you, cmdr Kyyttö? Of course you can outfit it also for exploration but you'll have to make the money for it yourself. How about getting to know it and taking it to somewhere profitable? "
29 Nov 2022, 3:53am
Ok, we now have all our ships in the home world, we have two ships capable of doing some harm to thargoids and a couple others that probably can survive an interdiction and escape. Still one more that might be able escape from a recon mission to thargoids.
Of the lesser fighters one or two might give the smallest thargoids some trouble. A couple that might be good for evacuation mission once the fighting has ceased. The rest... Keep away from any non-human signals if you can.
Thargoids tend to move in swarms, so this is probably possible if you follow news and avoid hyperdiction areas. I for one would like to see a pirate getting caught by them.

Now, our puny economy, in Bubble terms, cannot fight a swarm alone, so the selected pilots must be capable of taking orders from imperials and federation personnel. Forget your independence if you end up fighting with them. Look for very seasoned fighter and warship Commanders and do what they do, or submit to their command, a large thargoid ship is likely capable of destroying any of these ships if you try to take one down on your own. May the Alliance survive and may our effort be not in vain. Now gentlemen and gentlewomen, check your ships, they still need heat sinks to be installed, so they're not quite ready. Once you get into a fight, please don't resort to desperate measures, get out if you can, there's plenty of Milky Way outside the bubble.

Fine, they've found out how to take out one of thargoids' weapons, we sent out one support food cargo ship to the empire and when they visited a system with an imperial rescue ship they heard of this. The guy was in good terms with the place, paid a bit of a bribe, and got himself eight of these devices. We don't yet know how they should be used, only that they can prevent the shutdowns that usually occur when dealing with thargs.

And I've heard of another that would make our ships withstand more of the damage they do by their normal attacks. I've not located them yet but maybe they're doing the job better than decontamination limpets. Try also find some cargo racks that can manage the damage if you ever get to a thargoid wreck.

And remember your limpets! Onwards, go find stuff to use!
