Elite roleplay: The docks

THE DOCKS (Dockyards)

The Docks is where all pilots berth their ships. It is the first place that pilots find themselves upon landing their ship. Docking and launching is controlled by the Citi Gateway’s Traffic Controllers while each individual dock is controlled by a dockmaster and a team of orange clad dock crew workers.

The Docks is a sparse and desolate, 0.1G environment, littered with service vehicles, cranes and landing pads. While cool, the air is dry and lightly filled with the smell of burnt metal and ship grease. Public Service Announcements blare across the the docks reminding all pilots of station regulations. The docks contain 45 individual ship docks, several warehouses storing massive tank of hydrogen fuel, and standard shipping containers of cargo, the dock’s traffic control tower and the local pilot’s market which resides in one of the warehouses.

Ship docks
Each specific dock has a landing pad, a ship hangar and adjoining terminal. In each terminal there is a passenger waiting area, the dockmaster’s control tower and several dock crew vehicle bay.

Warehouses
If the docks were already unpopulated, warehouses would be completely vacant of anyone if not for a small handful of security staff. Warehouses are completely automated and highly guarded facilities as they contain massive amounts of valuable and flammable material.
"Loitering is a crime punishable by death" - Station Announcements

Pilot's Market
The pilot’s market is best described as a tourist trap for pilots. Every person who’s not a pilot is trying to guile a pilot to part with their credits.

"The station administrators would like to remind all pilots that transactions in the pilot’s market are not protected by Citi Gateway or The Bank of Zaonce" - station announcements

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

News bulletin

News update  concerning the disabled Asp Explorer and its missing pilot .

The past few days the technicians from Lakon Spaceways have been investigating
how the Asp got disabled and the disappearance  of its pilot.

Over to the Head off Lakon spaceway Research and Development:

The technicians found some strange energy weapon imprints on the hull witch look
similar to the Cyto scrambler used by the Archon Delaine faction
However the energy matrix shows that the phase shift of the emitters are more refined than the Cyto scrambler used by Archon Delaine ships and are beyond the technological capabilities to develop such advanced weapons .

Reporter : Some of our older viewers and Commanders speculate the return of the Thargoids can you shed some light on that ?

Head R&D : I can be clear about that the energy imprint is not of a biological nature so we can rule out the Thargoids this energy signature is of human origin ....

In a quiet corner of the bar an elderly Commander puts down his glass of pearl whisky  and looks up to the view screen ..

Head  R&D :.... all of the data cores and exploration data has been lost so we can not say what actually happened .

There was a fused circuit from the signature tracking computer with an image burned in to it, and this makes it even a bigger mystery.

The elderly Commander :  He looks at the image drinks his glass of pearl whisky in one swallow as a tear runs over his cheek  .
he walks to the door of the hanger and mumbles they are back .

The Asp Explorer settled onto its pad, and hovered in place for a moment as the forcefield reached out, grabbed the vessel, and lowered it into its resting place. A few moments later the pad itself descended into its hangar.

The pilot watched the proceedings with boredom - after all, if he'd seen one docking sequence, he'd seen them all, and he unbuckled the safety harness before it had finished.

The cockpit's door slid open, and the pilot moved through the ship, passing through the living area, down the stairwell, and into the cargo bay at the bottom of the ship. Once there, he slapped a wall control, causing the ship's cargo scoop to open. This he descended, tossing a passing glance at the various repair robots that had gathered around the vessel - unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on how one looked at it, they didn't have much to do.

A brisk walk across the pad led him to, and then through, the personnel door that led into the rest of the station. Just outside of this door hung a small holomap which displayed the various locations for visitors.

Of course, most stations are more or less laid out the same, he thought, but he stopped to study the small map anyway.

The elderly commander sits in a chair of his sleeping quarters , He poor's another glass of vintage Pearl whisky he starts to think about what he saw on the view screen a few days earlier.

Was it real , did i really see what I thought is saw ,or was my mind playing tricks again it could be I have been drinking a lot lately .
as he takes a sip he looks at his glass and walks to the sink and empty's his glass.

Its no time for drinking i must keep my head clear I must get a copy of that news bulletin .
He walks to the corridor and as he's going around the corner he bumps in to a commander looking at the stations map.

Sorry about that I was not looking where I was going...

Landing Pad 22

Landed on LP 22, La Kuraja Kuniklo stands proudly on her three legs. Her 4 fusion engine ports cooling, and her radiator ports fully extended, The starport docking crew, decked in orange suits, scurry from their utiliatarian yellow low gravity vehicles to attach all sorts of thick pipes and exhaust covers to almost every maintenance hatch they could find. Their movements are exacting almost clock work.

*********
Olivia Vespera had her Python docked at Citi Gateway so that she have her ship outfitted for the next leg of her journey.  From La Kuraja Kuniklo's bridge, she transfers payment for berthing fees and fuel levies before ordering several module refits she desired. It will take several hours before the refits and refuels will be complete. Enough time for her to visit the pilot's market.

As a public announcement broadcasts the penalty for loitering (death), Olivia Vespera exits La Kuraja Kuniklo via the ship's ramp entrance and enters, the terminal for Landing pad 22. Going through the automated customs, she then boards the starport tram which takes her to the starport hub. Located in the hub, at least according to one of the dock crew, is the Pilot's Market.

Pilot's Market
The Pilot's market is semi permanent assortment of shop houses, vendor tables, seedy bars and establishments. Every person who's not a pilot is out to make a profit from pilots. Trinkets, local delicacies, clothes, and to the discerning eye, weapons and drugs, can seen out in the open and haggled down to appreciable prices.

A few of the sounds one can hear:
"Come right here! have a look at what I have all on offer!" cries one vendor
"5 postcards for only 25 credits! You want one, come here, you see, you choose, all very nice! no? no?!" Cries  another

Olivia ignored all of them. But she was indeed interested in the some local inara charms. Maybe next time. She was already a registered fuel rat. She didn't want to become a pack rat as well. She continued down a corridor of shops.

Xeknos was about to turn away from the holomap when something bumped into him, forcing him to sidestep a few paces to regain his balance. He took a moment to brush off his jacket before directing his attention toward the other man. "It's... all right. Everything all right? Wandering aimlessly through a spaceport can be dangerous - you're liable to wander into a furnace, or something."

"My apologies , i have not been my self for the past few days ever since that news bulletin ".

I am heading to the data archive now, to retrieve that message ...

"Docking successful. Engines disengaged" came out of the internal speakers like so many times before. He could've muted it, but for some reason he didn't. Felt good to be adressed, probably. Only that "Under attack" warning when his adversary was already turned to space dust was a tad bit annoying. But aside of that, he didn't mind.

Coragon stepped out of his ship, the Umbra Vorago, and slowly strolled away, knowing it would be taken care of thoroughly. Or let's say it in other words: he made damn sure that the Docking personell wouldn't mess around with this expensive Federal Military craft. He invested too much time, effort, blood and payments for so called Charity organisations to have it not treated like the gem that it was. So, they better should do their job...

He was stopped cold in his tracks by a eerie loud siren going off. Yellow and red flashlights everywhere, he turned around to see what was going on. The very next second he noticed that some moron obviously didn't attach the refueling hose properly, and the moment they started pumping the liquid in it detached itself from the ship, spilling fuel everywhere. They were quickly getting the situation under control though, but to say that Coragon was angry would've the understatement of the century. He searched for the person responsible for this mess and didn't have to look long, or rather he heard it, for after the sirens went out, there was one loud voice, screaming at another. "Must be the superior of the blind mole that started all that" he thought to himself and went towards the screams.

"...and if you think that you get paid this week, forget it. Actually, you might forget to get paid for the whole damn month. I told you time and time again to check not once, not twice, but three times if everything is attached correctly. But what do you do ? Go freaking daydreaming when it's clear that one tiny mistake can mean the injury or even death not only of you but your co-workers as well. Not even to mention what kind of paperwork would pile up if there would've been damage to this Ship here, which in case you didn't know is one if not THE most expensive one out there. You know what ? You're FIRED, i am not putting up with a loser like you any longer, grab your belongings and get the hell out and don't dare to show your face here ever again ! And best get yourself a ride off this Station, because i make damn sure you'll never get ANY job here at all"

That sure was one hell of a verbal slapdown, and the big guy who screamed down at the small one really made this look quite stereotypical on top of it all. At any rate, Coragon didn't even get to voice his own anger as the one responsible for the mess rushed past him without a word. The big one calmed down immediately as he looked into his own mirror image, since Coragon was still walking around with his helmet on, yet was bright enough to realize he had the owner of the aforementioned ship standing before him. He apologized profusely for the mess and promised to clean everything up and give it a extra careful treatment for no extra fee. That eventually calmed Coragon down enough to a level where he let out a cold "You better live up to your promise, or else we'll have a talk with the Authorities, understood ?" turned around and went away.

He went on down several stairways, and as he turned a corner he was clashing together with another person, sending both of them to the ground."Ok, this Station sucks, only idiots in here !" he exclaimed aloud as he was collecting himself off the floor and up again, then getting a look at the one that ran him over. Not having his Helmet removed til now, he decided to let it on for the remainder of his visit, or at least for until he was in a somewhat safe area where he couldn't be pummeled, beaten, ran over, and all the other possible mishaps one could face. Fighting inside a Asteroid field at full speed was a cakewalk compared to trying to survive on this pile of junk it seemed.

"Wait, aren't you the guy that almost lit my ship up ?" Coragon said, his voice cold and barely able to contain the anger welling up inside again. Though in the very next moment he corrected himself. This wasn't a guy, it was a girl, well, woman. And she wasn't pleased to meet him either, as the cascade of swear words rained down on him like bullets.

"You miserable piece of trash, what you think you're doing now ? Not enough that because of your rusting wreck i've got no job no more, now you're trying to walk me over like if i'm under you ! Listen up you son of a bitch, i don't give a damn where you're coming from, but if you treat me like dirt one more time you'll find my foot where it really hurts,  Now move out of my way and make sure you don't come across me no more, or i'll leave a mark on you that you'll remember me for the rest of your life !"

She was at least one head smaller then him (he was around 5'9''), yet her body was athletic in build as he could see now. No Working Overall shrouded the view on the petite two hills going up and down under that skin-tight black and blue colored bodysuit of hers, but the last thing that came to his mind currently was to have a date with her or anything in that direction. He was a mix of anger, surprise and respect, even though both of them knew quite well that Coragon wasn't the reason she got fired. But she had to let the pressure go, and he was as good of a target for her frustration as any other. And those green eyes literally erupted with fire under that shortcut black hair of hers, letting out daggers of disgust and hatred towards him.

The moment she tried to rush past him, his arm shot out and grabbed her wrist. "Wait, i've got to talk to y..." was all he was able to say before she moved like water, using her smaller frame to get free of his grasp and returning a kick to his lower abdomen, sending him flying against the wall. "Ok, sucker, you asked for it !" she screamed as she came flying towards him, trying to land a kick to his head. Coragon was able to get out of the way as she slammed her foot into the wall instead. For the next 5 minutes he was dodging her attacks, until both of them were exhausted, barely able to move at all. "I hate you..." she said, but the words were without fire, and he wasn't even sure they were directed at him at all. Maybe she was talking to herself, maybe she ment the guy that fired her, who could tell. At any rate, she was not attacking him anymore, so he had a chance to speak to her again.

"Alright, that was one hell of a display right there. You sure got some fire in you, and i'd have a suggestion you might find interesting. If you promise not to try to  crush my nuts again that is, would be highly appreciated you know...." he said after getting most of his breath back. "And what would that be, hm ? Want to give me lots of money for to sleep with me ?" she said, voice cold as ice. "I just said i value my family jewels, so no, i don't want you to get close to them, wouldn't make a difference if you kicked them to mush or bit 'em off, right ? Anyways....the guy back there said he make sure you don't get no job on this Station at all anymore, don't think he's in the position to do so or is he ?" Both of them were standing again, at about a arms length distance between them, she with crossed arms, he standing in a more casual manner, hands to his sides. Also, more people started frequenting the area again, and Coragon was kinda surprised nobody noticed their little fight, let alone that Station Security didn't dispatch no cops to "solve" the situation.

"As a matter of fact, i think he can. He's a slimy fatso, but he's got connections to some people in higher places. So yes, the scumbag can wreck my life here, and i think he already did, knowing him. All i did was one freaking slip-up, i worked harder then any other of my co-workers, and i did check everything three times. I think either one of my so called colleagues or he himself tampered with the hose so it would fall off, i don't know,i didn't watch it as i was occupied with other work around your ship. But it doesn't matter now, i need to find a way out to another Station or down on the planet. Anything but staying here is a option now...."
she said, voice almost fragile now, filled with doubt and worries. All the fire in her seemed to have burned out.

"Got any connections on the Station that could help you with such ? Have enough Credits saved up to get yourself a ride out ?" he asked, trying to sound cool and casual."I started working about 2 months ago, and most of my money i had to pay to get a tiny little hole they call a "affordable appartment" here. Which means, since i won't get no pay for this month i'll be kicked out and, yah, no savings either. Guess i have to ask someone if they want my body for, lessay, a Million credits, eh ?" she replied, her tone going from resignation to utter sarcasm towards the end, for it was clear she wouldn't ever sell herself to anybody, not for any amount of credits. Coragon smirked under his helmet. "Well, i thank you for your offer, and honestly, if i didn't know you could tear my insides out with ease i'd be wanting to agree to your offer, but....i give you that million without the need to get yourself naked. How does that sound to you ?"

She looked at him, her eyes blinking in disbelief. "I am pretty sure i didn't kick you in the head that hard, or why are you spewing such nonsense now ? Are you trying to make fun of me ?" she said, voice getting louder again. "You don't know me at all, not even my name, and i tried to severely injure you just moments ago. And now you're wanting to give me money for nothing ? Where's the catch, assuming you're not trying to get me mad again for a second round ?" His voice in return was calm as he replied "I am not making fun of you. There is no catch. I'll help you to get off this Station, with your own completely A-rated Sidewinder, so you can be your own boss and won't need to answer to anybody but yourself. And i don't need to know your name nor do you need to know mine, let us just be two strangers where one helps the other out. What do you say ?"

He extended his hand to her, all the while she stood there, seemingly still processing his speech. "No catch, you won't ask me any favors, right ? I don't need to go to bed with you, or kill anyone to "pay up" ? For i swear if you come around with that crap you won't survive our next little dance...." He shook his head, hand still holding out, and after a few more moments she placed hers into his. "It's a deal, then....but i want a custom-made pilot seat for me, the generic ones are too big for my stature.." she said with a cocky smile on her lips. "Anything you say, boss..."  Coragon replied, and both of them walked off as if nothing happened only a short while ago

After visiting the local Shipyard, buying a regular Sidewinder and beefing it up to the maximum with what it could hold, the woman was ready to depart and put as much distance between her and this dreaded station as possible. Coragon nodded towards her and turned, finally wanting to find a bar of sorts where he could relax. "Hey, stranger, wait a moment !" he heard her yell once more. "Name's Judy, what's yours ?. He stood there for another moment, then said loud enough for her to hear "Name's Coragon, fly save, maybe we'll see each other again out there. And try not to kick too many guys in the nuts before you know them better, you hear me ?" She laughed. "No promises, i love guys on their knees before me ! At any rate, thank you for giving me a fighting chance for a new life. Don't find many people willing to do so here, let alone in the rest of the Universe. Who knows, maybe next time i'll be wanting to pay you after all with...you know..." she said and stuck her tongue out at him before turning around and boarding her Sidewinder.

Coragon moved out of the Hangar area, yet not before he watched her depart. "Fly safe Judy, there's more danger out there then you might imagine. Survive and get stronger, and perhaps we'll meet again someday. Hopefully on the same side, too...alright, time get this damn helmet off my head and a cool, refreshing, revitalizing beer down my throat...or anything for that matter, damn i'm thirsty". He set himself into motion on the search for a not too shady bar where one could relax...

Although battered, the MKIII Cobra, Defiant Glare, descended lightly into the hanger, with all the grace and poise of an imperial dignitary at a fundraising dance.

Unfortunately, the demeanour of the pilot did not match the quiet elegance of his ship.

The clank and whir of the docking mechanisms locking the ship in place, echoed throughout the station, the loading ramp descended and the sole occupant stepped out, surveying the docks around him.

The green HUD, blinked off the front panel of his helmet, and the pilot raised his hands, depressing two buttons at each side of his neck to release it. He removed the helmet slowly, deliberately, and drew back his heavy worn brown leather coat and clipped it to his belt.

Stepping down into the cold, environmentally controlled dock, he watched the docking crew hurriedly move towards the cargo bay. He let each of them pass, eyes of the palest blue boring into each of them as they moved towards his haul.

It was a look colder than the docking bay, and it spoke volumes.

Any damage to my cargo, or ship, and I’ll nail your hides to the hull.

He probably would have been more civil, had his latest sojourn not resulted in two measly tons of Indium and a close call with a pirate crew just off of the third planet of the Wolf 1301 system.

After unloading the cargo, the pilot took his coat off, and laid it in the cargo hold, he would have no  further need of it once he was further into the station. Stepping out, he caught his reflection in the reflective plating of the ship.
He raised a hand to his face, and scratched an itch that was not there, moving his fingers along a pale scar that ran from his left cheekbone to the right side of his chin.

Taking a mental inventory of everything he had on his person, credits, datapad, pistol, helmet, and his lucky serrated combat knife, sheathed on the inside of his boot. He made a note of what he needed to do now that he was on the closest thing to terra firma he'd been on in weeks.

Pilots market first, to get that bloody helmet fixed, then the bar. Today of all days he needed a cold one.

As he strode out of his ship into the cold, with nothing to guard against it but heavy boots, combats with as many pockets as there were ships in the system and a loose grey shirt that left his scarred arms exposed.

He walked to the chief officer on the landing pad, who directed him to the market. The dock chief watched the pilot move off, there was something odd about him, he didn't have the usual extreme build of a pilot. Typically the Commanders that moved through here had the heavy gut of a long distance hauler, or musculature of a guy who spent way too much time lifting weights in low-gee. This guy wasn’t tall, he wasn’t short either, but everything about him screamed fast.

Fast feet, fast fists, and a faster tongue.

The dock chief shrugged it off, he had work to do, the guy was just odd, that’s all there was to it, he took one final glance at the pilot as he disappeared towards the exit lost in the crowd, instantly unremarkable in a space dock bustling with people. The dull echoing murmur of the crowd filled his ears, punctured by the shrill yelling of a dock chief on an adjacent platform.

As the elderly commander (Marcus Franconium) continues his journey to the data archive not noticing that some one is following him .

Marcus enters the data archives and walks up to the receptionist “Excuse me miss ,can you help “
Receptionist: Certainly sir ,what can I do for you?

“I am looking for some news bulletins, from a few days ago and some older historical documents “
“News and media files are on rows 24 to 32 on you left side and older historical documents are on rows 45 to 99 ”

"Thank you very much" as Marcus fills in a user form ,the receptionist asks.

If you found what you are looking for we have a workstation to upload the data to your ships data core,

Marcus smiles and says “I might take you up on that offer “.
And hands over the user form and walks to one of the desks in the centre of the archive.

There has been one thing in the entire galaxy that Olivia had been searching for. She just had not found the time to make a trip to the system where they were made but it just so happened when her ship had logged onto the info link on Citi Gateway. The search program that ran in the background had found one of the keywords in the market that might interest their commander; 'Pet Shop'.

The Star Wanderer's Pet Shop
Olivia entered through the synthetic wooden doorway and walked down the aisle of what appear to be large bags of food pellets. Aligned on one side of the aisle are display pens of plexiglass. Resided in them are assortment of felines, reptiles, hounds, birds and simians, looking curiously at the white haired woman decked in her flight suit and jacket.

biological pets on a station are a weird sight. They create a mess had hair that fell off and clogged ventilation and food for them was often very expensive. They were simply not conducive to the strict protocols of station life.  Olivia believes that there were only two people in her home station, Dalton Gateway who had pets but they were either a rich entrepreneur or part of the station's command crew. These pets must have cost a fortune for people to purchase. That said, she didn't want just any pet. She wanted one specifcially.

Having reached the counter "excuse me.", an elderly plum women who must have been about 200 years old turned from watching her galnet show that held her attention. She looked annoyed as her faced scrunched up to scrutinize the young pilot before her. She said nothing.

Biomorphic Companion" Olivia stated, unfazed. "One. Do you have any?"

The petshop owner looked down and back up Olivia, regarding her. Finally her mouth, she spoke, "Pilot?"

"Are you going to charge me more if I said, 'yes'?", Olvia snapped back.

"My shop. Pilot?", responded.

"...Yes."

"500 000, including levies. Once you buy, no refunds."

"I want to see it first."

The sage turned her head to the side, and started screaming in a language Olivia did not comprehend and soon after a younger man came over. They exchanged what appeared to be sharply tongued vicious insults and soon after the man returned with a small cryogenic pod propped upon a dim-green hand trolley. The shop owner took a data pad and tap the canister, then turned the screen to Oliva. it read out the vitals, the date of manufacture and the expiry date of the pod. "There. Still fresh. Unopened. happy? Are you going to buy or not?"

Stifling a smile, she replied. "Where do I sign?"

"Data transfer ready " echo's through the now empty data archive .

Finally Marcus said and puts down his cup of tea .

He takes the now weakly purple glowing  data crystal from its socket and inserts it in to the slot of his desks workstation .

So lets see what we can find .

"Please make your request" . the computer asks

What wouldn't I give for a manual input .

"Please find all news of 24th of December 3301".marcus replied.

As the computer retrieves the data Marcus gets up to get another cup of Fujin tea .

and notices that another commander is sitting in the science section sorting through a pile of data pads and crystals .

Marcus takes his hot cup of Fujin and gets back to his desk .
As he sifts through the galnet news files from December 3301 he finally finds the message he was looking for .
" Okay ,lets see what we got here ".

As he enhances the picture he sees the clear profile of the upper starboard section of an Anaconda
It looks like and older type he mumbles as he scrolls over the picture his breath stops and drops his cup of Fujin tea on the floor.

Rimliner Galactic is clearly visible on the hull but an almost illegible insignia and part of a ships registration

that says "UNS Vang....."

"It cant be," and he copies the picture and news bulletin to his data pad .

CMDR Warjo walks slowly to his ship, looking around other commanders doing their stuff, he is a big guy but still stays pretty unnoticed while others are busy with their own stuff. He nods to those who he knows, but doesn't stay to chat this time.
Warjo arrives to his docking pad and checks his MKIV Cobra quickly before going to the cockpit.

"Hmm, now, off to the blackness" He mumbles while he launches out of the letterbox
