Elite roleplay: The docks

THE DOCKS (Dockyards)

The Docks is where all pilots berth their ships. It is the first place that pilots find themselves upon landing their ship. Docking and launching is controlled by the Citi Gateway’s Traffic Controllers while each individual dock is controlled by a dockmaster and a team of orange clad dock crew workers.

The Docks is a sparse and desolate, 0.1G environment, littered with service vehicles, cranes and landing pads. While cool, the air is dry and lightly filled with the smell of burnt metal and ship grease. Public Service Announcements blare across the the docks reminding all pilots of station regulations. The docks contain 45 individual ship docks, several warehouses storing massive tank of hydrogen fuel, and standard shipping containers of cargo, the dock’s traffic control tower and the local pilot’s market which resides in one of the warehouses.

Ship docks
Each specific dock has a landing pad, a ship hangar and adjoining terminal. In each terminal there is a passenger waiting area, the dockmaster’s control tower and several dock crew vehicle bay.

Warehouses
If the docks were already unpopulated, warehouses would be completely vacant of anyone if not for a small handful of security staff. Warehouses are completely automated and highly guarded facilities as they contain massive amounts of valuable and flammable material.
"Loitering is a crime punishable by death" - Station Announcements

Pilot's Market
The pilot’s market is best described as a tourist trap for pilots. Every person who’s not a pilot is trying to guile a pilot to part with their credits.

"The station administrators would like to remind all pilots that transactions in the pilot’s market are not protected by Citi Gateway or The Bank of Zaonce" - station announcements

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

"Wait, what???" Lilith stuttered as she was told of Isaiahs predicament. She was a bit stunned but at Bloodfeathers command she holstered her gun, clumsily given the space available and began crawling through the cramped tunnels.

"I'm going to need directions." She whispered as she commando crawled towards a T-Junction, "Where's best to avoid Glaboski? Is Isaiah ok? Where's Cait?"

She was throwing loads of questions at Bloodfeather, and she knew it, but she felt it was needed in order to keep herself going steady.
01 Dec 2016, 9:59am
"Go straight, then right, then follow that to the cargo hatch access point. It'll drop open once you're there. But be careful, I can't see Glaboski, he's in a camera blind spot." Bloodfeather remained calm in giving Lilith directions, given that an urgent tone might further panic Lilith. "Don't worry about anything else right now. Isaiah is..." she seemed to hesitate. "He collapsed. I can't do anything to help him. You have to go. Glaboski's right there and if he gets you..."

* * *

The Misanthropy's shook violently as Caitlin guided the Assault Ship through a solar prominence, watching carefully as the heat readout climbed steadily. The hull groaned with the strain as the ship's fuel scoop collected just enough precious hydrogen to make the final jump into the Inara system.

"Cait?" Bloodfeather said over the comms. "There's a situation."

"What is it now?" Cait deadpanned, examining the dossier she'd been sent on Lilith. The rap sheet on her was impressive... for a low-level criminal. Some of the more enthusiastic Kumo Crew prospects could barely hold a candle to this one's misdeeds. The fuel scoop completion notification appeared in her vision, and she dismissed the file, pulling the Misanthropy away from the star and pointing it towards Inara.

"Isaiah's in trouble."

"Isn't he always? I mean, he's practically a magnet for misfortune."

"You don't understand. He's in danger."

"From who? Lilith?" I swear, if she lays a finger on him...

"No. Glaboski."

"Glabba-who-whatski?"

"Forwarding what I found on him to you. He's... done something to Isaiah, I can't say what it is. But he's not in good shape."

Caitlin's demeanor changed at the drop of a hat. Her gripped tightened on the Misanthropy's controls, grinding her teeth. "I'm jumping into the system now. Can you patch me in to him?"

"No, but I can put you through to Lilith."

"Do it."

* * *

"Lilith, Cait's on with you. She's about to jump into hyperspace so you'll have to bear with me for a second while I reacquire her signal."

A hiss of static crossed the link, then a very quiet, almost growling voice came across. "Listen to me. If you value your freedom and your life, you'll go back and help Isaiah. Right now." Her voice was calm, measured, collected. "I am not going to let my better half die for a grimy, insolent guttersnipe like you. So do as I say, or so help me, I'll..."

She couldn't finish the sentence. It took everything she had to maintain her composure and not scream at the woman on the other end. For all she knew, Isaiah was already gone. As she pointed the ship towards Citi Gateway, she felt a hard lump form in her throat. "Do you understand me?"

Lilith followed the directions quickly and carefully so as not to make a noise that might attract the Doctors attention. Not happy that she had no way to know where he was, and even less happy that Isaiah was incapacitated. Or she hoped he was, the alternative meant she would have to shoot him herself. Not that the problem was pulling the trigger. The issue was that having to do so meant he'd outsmarted her, and Lilith hated the idea.

Eventually she reached the stretch of tunnel leading to the panel when Bloodfeather announced Cait was on the line. At first, it brought some small level of comfort, until she heard the tone in her voice.

*Value my freedom and my life?? Who does this cow think she is??* She thought to herself, *Wait... Go BACK to Isaiah??*

"So... Cat? Katy?? Is it??" Lilith chided, deliberately getting the name wrong to wind her up, "Let me get this straight, you're using the threat of losing my life or my freedom, to force me into a situation that might cost me my life or my freedom?? You realise there's a maniac chasing me right?? Feel free to tell me how you expect that to work..."

Reaching the hatch, she heard the click signalling Bloodfeather unlocked it and gave it a shove. Watching it swing open she manoeuvred herself feet first and prepared to drop. Pausing to think, she considered her options.

Drop down and run? She didn't doubt for a moment that Cait would chase her to Beagle Point if that's what it took. But one more glorified bounty hunter was nothing really. She'd be free of the Doctor too, and she could probably utilise her material on him to help keep Cait at bay.

But then, Isaiah had ample opportunities to kill her and get the bounty Glaboski had offered. So either this was an incredibly elaborate plot against her, or he had genuinely been trying to help. For better or worse, there was really only one surefire way to know.

Lilith took a breath, and dropped from the roof hatch to the floor, bending her knees and using her hands to cushion the landing. She turned and looked at the slowly opening Cargo Hatch. Her route to freedom. Then with a huff headed back deeper inside the ship.

"You're in luck Cathy. It just so happens I left something in the quarters we shared." She said softly, letting the implication hang. What did she care? Lilith wasn't one for being bossrd around at the best of times, and today was far from a good one.

Spotting the storage locker that marked the access panel she'd hidden behind, she mentally cringed.

"Bloodfeather... Next time there's a shorter way to the escape route, remind me to take that way instead of climbing through narrow tunnels..." She said quietly, drawing her gun and keeping on guard as she made her way towards the door.

Dr. Glaboski raced up the ramp, his feet clanging on the metal sending the sound reverberating around the immediate area, He dropped to his knees next to the fallen man and started taking his pulse. With his other hand, he swiped the the credit chip and pocked it.

"Not good," he mumbled. Excellent... He pulled out his communicator and called for a medical emergency at bay 33. He knew that the medic sent shouldn't be too far off, and a few moments later the medic returned, with the drone and the static chamber.

"This had better...." He started to say, then saw Isaiah on the ground.

"He's gone into tachycardia." Dr. Glaboski said with a somber tone. "5 CC's of Norbaline."

The medic looked at him. "Norbaline?"

"Yes, are you deaf, 5 CC's. Stat, hes gone into shock. We don't want cardiac arrest."

The medic drew up a syringe. He grabbed Isaiah's arm, and injected the fluid.

"That will keep him unconscious. It should also help slow the synaptic pathways along the sinoartial node." He placed his head on the mans chest. "Pulmonary dysfunction. His breathing has become shallow. Prepare a drip of saline."

The medic did as he was told, inserting a I.V. into the mans hand.

"We need to get him into that statis pod, quickly." Dr Glaboski moved around the front and hooked his arms under Isaiah's. The medic grabbed the feet and they hoisted the man up into the pod. The medic fastened the restraints around Isaiah's arms and legs to keep him from thrashing, or being jostled too much. Dr. Glaboski was programming the pod. The lid closed and sealed with a hiss.

The two men and the drone raced down the ramp, along the corridor to an elevator. They called up the emergency protocol that gave them priority to the lift. After a short ride, and a bit more running they found themselves at the emergency entrance to the medical wing.

Dr. Glaboski pushed past other medics and physicians, yelling something about cardiac arrest. They made a hole, and he took a surgical suite. He looked to the medic accompanying him and dismissed him. "I have it from here. Go about your tasks. I well get some nurses and we will do what we can."

The medic nodded and left Glaboski, who in turn sealed the door...

The Misanthropy flared as it approached its assigned landing pad - 37, right next to pad 33. It had come in at full burn, much to the irritation of station traffic control, but Cait didn't care. She'd cut off her link to Lilith as soon as she'd started mouthing off, too angry to sit through her remarks. The second she was docked and in the hangar, Cait departed from her ship, ignoring as the maintenance teams started going over the Misanthropy with a fine-tooth comb.

Instead, she stormed through the corridors of the docking bay, making the relatively short journey to Pad 33. She weaved through the crowds, all of them staring because she'd not bothered to change out of her up-armored Remlok flight gear. She looked more like a machine than anything else; helmet covering her face, all hard angles and sharp edges.

She arrived at the hangar in time to find it empty - or so she thought. Quickly she reached for the handgun on her hip, drawing and holding it at the high ready, quickly covering the distance between herself and the Bloodfeather. Ascending the boarding ramp, she cleared each corner of the interior of the ship until she came upon Lilith.

"Drop it! Now!" Cait shouted, her voice laced with venom. She kept her pistol pointed squarely at Lilith.

Lilith stopped at the shout, she had been searching for wherever Isaiah had allegedly collapsed but to no avail. Worryingly so, was the fact she hadn't encountered Glaboski either.

Recognising the voice, and deciding the lack of Isaiahs presence wasn't going to do her any favours, she decided to ignore what she was instructed and instead turned quickly and aimed her gun squarely at the source of the command.

"How about no?" She spat, "I didn't appreciate your tone over comms and I certainly don't appreciate it now." She was no stranger to stand offs. They happened frequently in Liliths lifestyle, and while she hadn't won all of them, she was still here, which definitely counted for something.
01 Dec 2016, 5:58pm
"Stop it, both of you!" Bloodfeather chastised, shutting the lights off in the cabin and slamming the door to keep both of them separated. "Both of you are too late. They carted him off."

"Who?"

"Glaboski and a medical team. They put him into a holding pod. I can't raise him on comms."

"Shit!" Cait swore loudly, lowering her firearm.

"I was able to follow the pod on security cams, they went back to the medical wing. I can't see where they took him in the wing though, the security protocols there are different. I can't gain access without setting off some red flags."

"Do it. Whatever it takes," Cait said sharply. "Find him. I'm going to get him out."

"You're not thinking clearly. You need to take a few breaths and--"

"Was he alive when they carted him out?"

"By all indications. But I can't say for certain."

Cait swore again, holstering her sidearm. She unsealed her helmet and tossed it across the corridor, leaning back against the wall and sinking into a curled, seated position.

"Breathe, Cait, just breathe," she whispered to herself. She buried her face into her hands, exhaling shakily.
01 Dec 2016, 6:33pm
Lilith holstered her gun. Still not conviced the woman wouldn't turn on her but feeling an obligation to help.

"Come on... We'll go to my ship and get his data. It'll have to be a bargaining chip now." She said angrily
01 Dec 2016, 6:59pm
"Bargaining chip? Right." Cait scoffed, listening to Lilith on the other side of the door. "You don't get it, do you? He's not interested in the data you have. He wants you. You didn't see the picture of his ex-wife? Your resemblance to her isn't hard to miss." Cait ran a hand through the loose locks of auburn hair, silently thinking to herself.

This woman's your only chance to get Isaiah back if Glaboski's holding him hostage... if he's even still alive.

Thoughts flickered through her mind. She'd hunted him once. She'd been ordered to kill him. She'd shot him down somewhere in the wilderness of Chione and she stood right over him, watching him struggle to breathe through cracked ribs and a collapsed lung, and she'd almost done him in when his passenger, an old woman, bounced a bullet off the back of her skull.

It was a hell of a way to meet.

She'd survived. So did he. They recovered in the same room at the hospital in Leeson City. At first there had been silence between them, neither of them wanting to acknowledge the other. She'd undergone surgery twice - first to reduce the swelling on the brain, the second to replace the piece of her skull they took off to help with the former. It was the second time around that Isaiah had started to express some concern, some passing interest in her welfare.

And it took her completely by surprise. He had no reason to trust her. No reason to even care. And yet for days after, as he recovered from his injuries, he'd sit alongside her, bantering back and forth with her as she acclimated to the possibility of never flying again.

Right. They couldn't keep me out of the cockpit.

They parted ways not long after, but he'd already left his mark. She got the Misanthropy back and, after thinking about the conversations they'd had during their hospital stay, she rejoined The Reach, a privateer organization hell-bent on finishing off the Kumo Crew.

When Isaiah started stopping in to share notes and intel, Cait couldn't help but wonder if the fates themselves were colluding to bring them together.

They'd been through so much already. He was totally unlike her in his approach to things: where she wanted to go in guns blazing, he would always provide the voice of caution. When she thought of things in black and white, he was quick to fill the gaps with gray. He tempered her, made her more aware of herself and her actions. The thought of losing him...

Stop. Focus.
01 Dec 2016, 7:40pm
"Ah right. I see... Because YOU'RE already completely familiar with what he has already done to me?!?! Well in that case, perhaps you can tell me how far it went!! Was it just pictures or should I be getting tested?!?" Lilith had had enough. She was shouting now. Not caring how much she spilled, not giving a damn whether her aggressiveness caused Cait to pull out her gun and shoot the second the door between them opened.

Standing there, seething and breathing heavily she focussed her thoughts and brought her voice down, but still kept the anger running through every word.

"It's not just me you know... I just had the misfortune of finding it. He wants me so he can declare me insane. Or just kill me. Either way, if his hobby gets out... He's ruined, unless there is some way to prove I'm nothing more than a shit stirring criminal." She spurted out. "My plan is simple. We use the data to buy us time. Unless you want Isaiah under his thumb, unchecked, with no one to help."

With that, she looked around in an attempt to find another exit.

"I'm going to my ship. I'm going to see if I can help him. If you want to, you can come. If you'd rather do it yourself, I'm happy to leave you to it."

"So that's it then? Just give the bastard exactly what he wants?" Cait was doing her best to compose herself. She let out a long sigh, listening to Lilith on the other side.

"At this juncture, I don't see an alternative," Bloodfeather said. "Isaiah could be in a lot of trouble right now. Cait, you need to put aside your distrust of Lilith or neither one of you will get what it is you're after. She wants to get away from Dr. Glaboski, and you want Isaiah safe and sound. It's in both of your best interests to work together on this."

The door was unlocked and parted, and Cait gave a sidelong glance at Lilith, biting back on the urge to scowl.

"If it's any consolation, Cait, she did come back for him."
01 Dec 2016, 10:40pm
"Well we did leave the bar, arm in arm." Lilith sneered, while holding her hand out to help Cait off the floor. She was going to have a lot of fun winding her up she reckoned.

"For the record, I didn't say we should just give him what he wants, I said use it as a bargaining chip." She added, "We tried to keep Isaiah clear of any suspicion but judging by his capture, it didn't work. There's two possibilities here. Right now Glaboski is slicing Isaiah apart, trying to get information out of him. The alternative is he's hoping there's a connection between us, probably romantic, and he's hoping I'll come out of hiding to save the damsel in distress."

She thought back to the first conversation they'd had.

"Oh, and for the record... I'm not some petty guttersnipe. If I need to prove it by kicking your ass from here to next Wednesday, name the time and place but after we sort out our mutual enemy."
01 Dec 2016, 11:07pm
Cait took Lilith's hand and rose to her feet, glaring at her as she listened to the insinuation's of Isaiah's infidelity.

She must take me for a fool.

"Bloodfeather, were you listening to the conversations between Isaiah and Lilith here?"

"Of course."

"Did they, at any point, engage in any sort of... romantic or lascivious behavior?"

"None that would fall within the purview of such. They did walk arm-in-arm though. It was her idea."

"Ahh, I see." Cait cracked a gruesome smile, narrowing her blue eyes at Lilith. "Real cute. If you're going to get under my skin, you'll need to do better than that. And until you prove otherwise, you're still a guttersnipe in my book." With that, she turned on her heel and proceeded down the corridor to the exit, leaving her helmet where it had landed. She'd be back for it... one way or the other, with or without Isaiah.

"So where is your ship parked at, Lil? You don't mind if I call you that, do you?" Not that it particularly matters.
01 Dec 2016, 11:23pm
"Not a problem, Katy, is it?" Lilith mocked, "Besides, Bloodfeather could have been instructed to hide certain things. She is, after all, designed to follow the instructions of the ships Commander. Last I checked, that wasn't you."

Following in Caits wake, she announced the pad her ship was on.

"It's Pad 20. Python named Spearhead." Her heavy boots clumping loudly on the floor as she marched down the corridoor towards her ship.

"Bloodfeather, can you track down the appropriate channels to contact Glaboski? I'd prefer a private channel, but go public if it's quicker. We can stall him if we keep him talking to us." She said, "Oh and please don't take any offence about earlier. I like you...'
