Elite roleplay: The docks

THE DOCKS (Dockyards)

The Docks is where all pilots berth their ships. It is the first place that pilots find themselves upon landing their ship. Docking and launching is controlled by the Citi Gateway’s Traffic Controllers while each individual dock is controlled by a dockmaster and a team of orange clad dock crew workers.

The Docks is a sparse and desolate, 0.1G environment, littered with service vehicles, cranes and landing pads. While cool, the air is dry and lightly filled with the smell of burnt metal and ship grease. Public Service Announcements blare across the the docks reminding all pilots of station regulations. The docks contain 45 individual ship docks, several warehouses storing massive tank of hydrogen fuel, and standard shipping containers of cargo, the dock’s traffic control tower and the local pilot’s market which resides in one of the warehouses.

Ship docks
Each specific dock has a landing pad, a ship hangar and adjoining terminal. In each terminal there is a passenger waiting area, the dockmaster’s control tower and several dock crew vehicle bay.

Warehouses
If the docks were already unpopulated, warehouses would be completely vacant of anyone if not for a small handful of security staff. Warehouses are completely automated and highly guarded facilities as they contain massive amounts of valuable and flammable material.
"Loitering is a crime punishable by death" - Station Announcements

Pilot's Market
The pilot’s market is best described as a tourist trap for pilots. Every person who’s not a pilot is trying to guile a pilot to part with their credits.

"The station administrators would like to remind all pilots that transactions in the pilot’s market are not protected by Citi Gateway or The Bank of Zaonce" - station announcements

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

"Hmmmm," I nodded slowly in agreement. "Anaconda might do fine. It's big and somewhat tasteless. If you need a bulk cargo transport but faster than those Lakon flying cowsheds... Yeah, it'll do fine, I guess."

"With customisations, of course," a gesture towards the pilot seat was unnecessary 'as is', but I decided to give more freedom to that idea. "That friend of ours might be thrilled by the view of you trying to fit into a standard one but we have to get her out of there first."

"And maybe... Maybe our original transport is an Anaconda too," a sudden realisation appeared in my mind so I vocalised it as well. "Having a jump range about or over thirty, and enough space for all that stuff it has to carry, kind of narrows down the list. In that case, we may quickly paint some fake IDs to make our present a little more convincing."
12 Aug 2024, 12:42am
“Once, we’ve found it. Can just copy the ship ID and paint it on mine, well, when we have it at least.”

I used my wrist computer again, to give that new order.

“Will have them install a… custom, seat, in that time, too. Won’t be a great one, like this, but… enough to use once. And I tried to fit into a normal one already. I sat on it… about there. On the arm rests.”

I placed both hands on their respective thigh, just about past the shoulders… which still left a good amount of material sprawled out further to the sides. My hands looked completely dwarfed when on that absurd amount of soft fat which ‘filled’ the skin, and I could still not quite resist the temptation to push into it with the fingers a bit, for… just a second.

“Anyway… was thinking, the same. Could, be a Cutter, too, but you’d need a booster for it to be above thirty, with cargo, and defenses. And… I don’t see them flying anything that fancy, to be honest.”

My gaze wandered outside, even if there was not much more than a hangar bay to be seen. We were probably ready to go soon, at least for that first phase of our plan.
12 Aug 2024, 1:12am
"Hhhhhhh..." I exhaled slowly with a bit of relief and rolled my shoulders with my eyes closed. Not that it was needed, more like a habit, or something instinctive still remaining. Then my gaze slowly turned roughly to the same spot Kasumi was looking at.

"As some major figure from the Old Earth once said, plans are useless, but planning is indispensable. Or something like that."

"Perhaps, we both should depart to the carrier. Maybe a bit of change of pace could help us remember something that we might've left overlooked, and we still have to receive the decryption results I guess. And... I need to send a message to my camp that I'll be absent for a couple of days because there's another arse to be kicked."
12 Aug 2024, 1:27am
“I guess, we should go to it. I’ll have a jump keyed in to near one of those random uninhabited systems… it’s right here, so should not be an issue getting there before it goes. We should still have a bit of time to prepare before the transport arrives, too. EDI did say, it would leave within the hour… so, I don’t know, thirty minutes, maybe?”

I didn’t really have any good guesses as to when exactly that transport would be getting there, or departing. Just hoped we would be on time, else this plan would go absolutely nowhere, and we’d be back to square one. Or zero, for that matter. The only slight positive was that Azimuth were probably not going to touch a hair on their “bait” because that would just make me even less cooperative… if they had any actual understanding of my personality.

“It shouldn’t take too long to change things out for the cargo space and a collector limpet on my Corvette. Might even be done before the jump. So, we’re sticking to the idea that I distract the escorts, if there are any, and you go after the transport? Assuming you don’t need help breaking its shield, or anything like that.”
12 Aug 2024, 2:23am
"...And I need to double-check my gear. Considering what we're up to, I guess I'll need all the ammo I can get. Luckily, there's an entire box of it onboard, only have to fill the mags," I slowly got up from the floor and dropped a quick glance at the airlock door. "And don't worry about the shields or whatever. They won't even know why their engines have suddenly turned into metal spaghetti."

"I also got something they don't really expect... Should be funny. For me. Not for them."

I made a step towards the airlock, yet turned back for a moment and looked at Kasumi, feeling that I'd rather repeat some stuff to be really sure.

"Send the carrier ID to me then. I'll meet you there."
12 Aug 2024, 2:50am
"Sure. Will send it. Hope this will... not take more than a day, though. If that."

Knowing who it was that Azimuth had caught, even a few more hours was too much, but I had to have some patience... so that we actually stood any chance of doing things successfully. I used the same message address as earlier to provide the carrier ID - not that it had changed, but its name had, so it was probably better to be sure. Then I waited for her to be off the landing pad before I hit launch - safeties wouldn't allow me to anyway, while somebody was on it, and this... was not a scenario where I had any reason to bypass them. Except to be silly, and bring the pad to the top and into the bay, without actually making the ship take off... would not want to be stood underneath one while its thrusters were firing.

As soon as I had clearance, I quickly exited the docking bay and set up the carrier jump to system "Nowhere" near our planned ambush location, also remembering that I would want an interdictor module to pull that Azimuth ship out of supercruise, adding it to the list of changes to the Corvette's internal loadout. I'd be sacrificing some hull protection for that, but ideally I wouldn't be losing the shield, anyway. The rest, I would double check once I was on the carrier. It was pretty much right by the station, anyway, and I expected the 'Marshmallow' to not be far behind.

There wasn't a single room on the Honour Promise that wasn't a work of art, including the head by the cockpit. But the living quarters was on another level entirely. She stood in the door way slack jawed, taking in the opulence offered by the large room she could only call a club lounge.

She was very proud of the of the living quarters she had made out of Saud Kruger parts for her Python, but what the designers had made for the Honour Promise shamed her own home. From what the readout on her diagnostics unit was telling her, Creamy had spent three of the ships largest slots on custom living quarters. There was a pool, stream room and sauna in here somewhere.

It would be polite to wait for Vasil and Maul to get here, but she could at least let her diagnostics unit get a full read on all the systems the Honour Promise had fitted. If Maul knew what the ship could do, he'd have a better idea what he was looking for she guessed.

The lounge had a three long sofas in a semi circle, half enclosing what Willow assumed to be a small dance floor. Each sofa had soft looking throws and scatter cushions that called to Willow, asking her if she would like to rate their softness. They didn't need to ask Willow twice. Sitting on one of the end sofas, Willow turned her head so her cheek could brush against the throw.

"Ohh my god!"

It was the very essence of softness, and so where the cushions. It was wrenching to lift her face off the throw, but Willow just had to take her boots off and give the sofa the lay down test. In moments, she had wrapped her self in the throw and snuggled up in a cornucopia of cushions.

"Nooo waaay! I'm like, totally smothered in chinchilla hugs right now" said Willow wondering if she could get away with taking her overalls off, but that'd look weird when the guys turned up.

"All I need now is glass of wine and maybe some like, soft cheeses" mused Willow as she stared to drifted off in the soft embrace of master worked comfort.
14 Aug 2024, 12:05am
Vasil, having been running monthly diagnostics in the SRV bay of the Always Lost, immediately felt out of place at the top of the Honour Promise’s entrance. His well-worn mav suit with all the dings and other “personality traits” from nearly 20 years of use better fit the decor of and old Lakon vehicle bay way more than the bespoke Saud Krueger interior in the Honour Promise.

Even being minor Imperial nobility, Vasil found everything a bit over the top. It was all very well crafted, expertly designed, and luxurious even by Imperial standards, but he had the feeling the interior was meant to impress a certain type of person. And that type was definitely not him since he had both an X and Y chromosome.

Searching through the ship, he found Willow in the lounge nearly drowning in blissful luxury.

“Careful, Willow. I am sure you are not the first young woman this ship has ensnared in luxurious rapture.”
14 Aug 2024, 7:25am
"Willow isn't here any more, she is lost to the plushiness. I live here now, I am one of the lounge people" said Willow still deep in the land of chinchilla snuggles.

She was thinking just 5 more minuets to enjoy the world of soft, when Vasil's warning echoed in her head. She'd been on this guy's ship for less then 10 minuets, and she was already wanting to take off some of her clothes"

"Like, wow" said Willow sitting up, sending cushions tumbling saved only by magnetic threads within "This guys good"

Swinging her legs off the sofa, Willow sat up with her knees pressed together for no reason in particular, and retrieved her diagnostics unit from under her seat.

"Er so, there is no covas on this thing, and the OS is like, partially uninstalled too, so I'm having to run a manual check on the connected systems. Its going to take a while, so you want to like, poke around?"
14 Aug 2024, 9:16am
Outside of the Honour Promise, Maul stood arms crossed, glaring up at the beast of a ship through a thick puff of smoke he had just exhaled courtesy of the cigarette loosely hanging between his lips. Saud Krueger made lavish ships that always made him feel uncomfortable to be around. Perhaps it was the shape of the damned things, "Phallic", as Lambast had once so eloquently put it. Now that it had been pointed out to him, that was the only thing he could think of when one crept into his view. Having one last drag of the cancer stick, he ripped it from his lips and slipped the thing into a small silver tube for later.

Inside wasn't much better than outside, the decor was all a bit much for his taste. Physically shaking his head, he hoped to rid his mind of the vague coital imagery that had been conjured by merely glancing at the furniture dotted around within the confines of the "Honour Promise". Odd choice for a name of a ship. Choosing to focus on the meaning and possible importance behind the ships name as a way of distracting himself from any further wandering thoughts, he had suddenly found himself within the presence of Vasil and Willow.

"About time we all came together again." An accidental innuendo that completely slipped his own radar. "Y'all find anything juicy yet?" This one however felt odd rolling off the tongue, causing him to stop just short of finishing his sentence. "Actually, you know what, just pretend I said 'Hey guys' instead, okay?"

“I’m not sure about anything juicy, but Willow has found a cushy couch which has probably led her to a Nirvana most Buddhists would envy.”

Vasil looked around the lounge. “Not my particular style but it fits what we know about Cream- uh, Goodness, I mean.” Ships were often a reflection of their owners and this one was giving Vasil the feeling it was a party boat for a wealthy playboy. “I tend more towards the utilitarian.”
14 Aug 2024, 4:34pm
With Maul's innuendos and Vasil mentioning the playboy aspect of the ships owner, Willow was starting to get embarrassed. She crunched up her toes feeling like having them out side her boots was somehow wrong. When she noticed she was still letting the back of her hand enjoy the amazingly soft throw, Willow stood up abruptly holding her pad in both arms.

"Um so, we, or that is, I started a diagnostics check on my unit" Willow explained to Maul "Because like, there is no covas, and its like large chucks of the ships OS have been uninstalled too"

The guys didn't say anything right away, and Willow felt she had left a suspicious silence that needed filling.

"Yeah, and um, so Saud Krueger have their own plug-in that helps run their luxury quarters, and that all works, so that's why I waited here" It sounded so much like a lame excuse now she'd said it out loud. There was nothing to do but press on.

"So yeah, that's where we are. Vee and I were about to like, snoop around and see if we could find anything" Another heavy silence squeezed a last word out of Willow. "About his where abouts"

That was too many abouts. Silence was probably best now.
14 Aug 2024, 5:56pm
Vasil found Willow's nervous and embarrassed rambling charming. He almost said nothing just to see how far she would go to keep filling the silence but decided it best not to torture her.

“Judging by the layout and decor, we will probably find an unusual number of undergarments scattered around.” Vasil picked up one of the couch pillows, looked under it, and tossed it back on the couch. “They probably won’t be of any use to us but maybe there are other connections to people that we could use.”

“Saud Krueger also has a VIP maintenance service that records and monitors ship functions. Mostly, it looks for opportunities to overcharge the owner for preventative maintenance. Goodness does not seem like the kind of person to do his own work, so maybe there are records or maintenance that could provide an idea of his whereabouts prior to disappearing with the pirates.”

Vasil did not think much would come of the SD maintenance idea, but with so little information available about Creamy’s disappearance, any other information might help.
14 Aug 2024, 10:15pm
His eyes roamed the walls as he listened to Vasil speak on the technicalities of Saud Krueger's predatory business practices. The absence of exposed wiring and obviously marked maintenance panels further drove Vasil's point home. Fuck big corporations. Something had caught his eye though. A camera in the corner that looked a little more feature heavy than the standard security camera, even for such a luxurious ship as this. There were no markings or indications upon the camera that proved significant and that's exactly what had caught his eye. Maul knew security, he had to. "If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles", and this wasn't his first rodeo.

"That's weird right? That's not included in the standard security package from Saud that usually comes factory built with these things." he said, stepping closer to the lens of the camera secured to the corner of the room, pointed directly at the couch Willow had been lounging on. "I know Achilles has been dabbling around with the idea of expanding into security with their 'Advanced Security & Saftey' branch of devs but that shit is A.S.S. and more of a rumor than anything else. Nah, this baby looks custom."

When he turned back around to face the two, he had already began disengaging the secure mag holster that held his backpack in place that was hidden beneath his loose and rather baggy black jacket and sliding the straps from his shoulders that only served to secure the thing in place if the mag holster happened to fail. By the time he’d made his way to the couch, he already had his laptop in hand.

“Sounds like we all have some avenues to snoop, so shall we?” He said, confident that one of them was bound to find a trail of some sort, and if the stars aligned, perhaps all their paths would too.
14 Aug 2024, 10:37pm
"What camera?" asked Willow looking into the corner Maul had inspected.

From the sofa, she couldn't see anything, so she went over to get a closer look. Thanks to the low gravity on the docking bays, she could jump up to get a better look.

"Oh yeah. Like, those fancy eyes you got were worth the credits, right Em?"

Bouncing around the room like a balloon hunting for cobwebs, Willow noticed a few more micro lenses now she knew what to look for.

"So I've been running a systems inventory for a while now" said Willow, looking for her diagnostics unit she'd put down before flitting around the lounge. "Let's see if this surveillance system like, turns up on the network. Or gets listed at all, right? Maybe Goodness wanted to keep his all seeing eyes a secret"
