M. LehmanI hate to nit-pick, but it was Chris Roberts who was behind the Wing Commander games, not Braben
I stand corrected.
At my age, these games and authors are becoming a blur.
Thanks for pointing it out.
Be safe.

With all the barnacles and other things to be found, how high is the probability that at some point a human would be infected and turned into something else? Unknown bacteria or virus?
How are the chances the found alien shipwrecks were once of human origin but changed into the alien ones? Considering when you found and transported UA's they messed up your ship or entire Stations.
Or the worst possible idea: Space magic. With the aliens being from another plane of existence using humans to anchor themselves in our reality. Like the bugs from the Shadowrun franchise.

Ryan MurdocJust to add ideas regarding the aliens...not necessarily good ones mind you...

If Frontier introduces Skyrim-style space magic into Elite lore, I will burn every word of fic I've ever written.

I'm already working on writing my own universe in case I want to make anything out of my things

I think Elite's lore and storyline have been vague since day one.
I dunno; there's a canon timeline, 10 official books, 2 years of GalNet articles and in-game system descriptions - I find that plenty of background to work with, but leaving enough blank canvas to paint in personal stories.

You just have to fill in the blanks a little bit.

I was speaking about when Elite was first introduced in 1986. Most of this "lore" has been written in the past three or four years, because the original lore was very thin. As with other space genres, the lore was established vaguely, and more included in each episode or version. When I say Wing Commander, most get it, and at least that one was fleshed out somewhat with a movie backing it up.
So, Elite lore is just now (within the timespan of the New Elite) being fleshed out by mostly those who never played the original, or even heard of the original until the new version arrived. In fact, I actually forgot all about the original Elite and how much fun it was, for at least thirty years, until this new one came up. So, I would have to say the lore you mention is new stuff (because there was little old story line) and there are many voids to fill and it is mostly a clean slate.

Of those who played the original 1986 version of Elite, does anyone remember the "cloaked ship"?
It was an NPC (of course they did not call it this then) which had a special feature (vague) which made it hard to find, hard to see and hard to track. I managed to find it, coming out of a station, and managed to destroy it.
Just one of the not so obvious "lore" bits forgotten over time, and never re-introduced into the new Elite.
I actually wrote a bit of lore for Elite, which was published at the time for the game (1987), but since the internet is not that old, and I can find no record of it, I am now looking through my old Elite boxes and docs for it. I vaguely remember the storyline, but I would rather locate the original and bring it back into the light.

The original source of the game's lore back in 1984 was the Dark Wheel, which Frontier have clarified as now being non-canon.
The existing canon is now the sources I mentioned, which were written by players and fans of the original game (Michael Brookes, Drew Wagar, Kate Russell and others) - I don't know where you got the idea of it "being fleshed out by mostly those who never played the original, or even heard of the original until the new version arrived." ?

It's now non-canon - cloaking devices don't exist in the Elite universe. The closest thing we have to cloaking is silent running, which works in a different way.

It has certainly been an interesting experience here, and I will return you to the forum's original intent of RP, as it was not the proper place for posting my rattlings and fading memory.
Unfortunately for me, life events dictate my time and contributions these days, as medical conditions supersede all other priorities in my life.
Be well and safe.
Sincerely.
