Elite roleplay: Q&A and OOC

Okay, but that's only presuming they make it to the pod right? I'm thinking of a script in Mostly Harmless, when Angel escapes her Cobra by jumping into an escape pod.
In addition, does it imply that the pilot goes into stasis? And then waits the XXX amount of years it takes for such a tiny vessel to make it back to port? I can believe that it'd have stasis-like cababilities- but, how does it travel then? It wouldn't be instantanoues.. right?

It's quite simple... ships goes bang, you eject in the escape pod, *mumbles and waves hands*, and you're back in the station!

That works for me!

This is one of those moments where Gameplay trumps Realism.

In terms of reaching the escape pod, I just assumed it was an automatic thing that closed around you during an emergency ejection. As for time taken, it's instantaneous in game because the alternative is tell the players "HA, YOU DIED. SEE YOU BACK IN 15 YEARS SUCKER!!!"

For story writing I find it easier to just say, "he/she awoke after what felt like an instant" or words to that effect.

I think you've got to look at time being an abstract concept in ED's gameplay vs lore for anything to make sense!

Today, I docked at an outpost, found a fence for 190 tons of illegal battle weapons, unloaded said weapons, reloaded a few dozen rounds of large calibre ammunition and took on 20 tons of fuel... in around 10 seconds!

In other news, I was going to see if any other comments came through but it already seems unanimous. I kinda had an inkling that would be Liliths response but perhaps I overthought it.

Cheers to MacPhisto, Marra, Stryker and Isaiah.

Hurmmmmmm.. I'll put it at realistic intervals then. Based on that report you shot at me in the Discord, I'll alter my writing to allow for quicker jumps, but when it comes to fuel scooping, and unloading.. you know, tons and tons of crap, that'll be what changes from gameplay to loreplay. You think that would be a good balance?

Just my two cents. With my written Things, I try to keep it as real as possible. Stuff like unloading a ship takes time. Not everything in game play directly transcribes over well to written stories. My plan of attack is to keep it vague.

I was about to say just what Stryker said.

If you need to keep the pace of the story moving, just use phrases like "once the cargo was transferred" or "a relatively short wait later", that sort of thing. It establishes time has passed but without slowing the writing to a grinding halt.

Otherwise, if you're aiming to keep it 'lore and gameplay friendly' avoid giving specific timescales if you can avoid it. It's the easiest way to avoid clashes.

Well yeah, that makes sense lol. I did write a few of those "quick time events" in my first log, but there was a part where the mc actually did something that needed to be detailed.

We all find ourselves in odd spots when it comes to how long something takes.

For example, I see fueling and refilling ammunition and module charges as something that takes a little longer than ten seconds. And fixing a beat-up ship with twenty percent hull? Good luck. I'd say that even with the technology of 3303, that seems like at least a two or three day job.

But really, it's hard to make a journey to Colonia seem all that epic when it only takes a day at the very most.
08 Jan 2017, 8:43pm
Where is Colonia?

Markus OmniWhere is Colonia?

It's a newly-settled region of space thousands of light years away from the Bubble. You can find it on your nav map if you type in "Colonia", I think.
08 Jan 2017, 8:53pm
If you view the Galaxy Map and put Sol or the Bubble to the bottom (South) of your screen, Colonia is positioned to the Left (West) of Sag A* it's roughly 22000Ly away. Given there's usually a Community Goal running there, it ought to have a Gold Star above it provided you haven't got the filters switched off. Failing that, and providing the name hasn't been changed, search for Eol Prou RS-T d3-94. If the nane has been changed, simply search for Colonia or maybe Jacques Station.
