Elite roleplay: Q&A and OOC

M. Lehman
Markus OmniWhere is Colonia?

It's a newly-settled region of space thousands of light years away from the Bubble. You can find it on your nav map if you type in "Colonia", I think.

I don't have the game yet lol!

Luke3107If you view the Galaxy Map and put Sol or the Bubble to the bottom (South) of your screen, Colonia is positioned to the Left (West) of Sag A* it's roughly 22000Ly away. Given there's usually a Community Goal running there, it ought to have a Gold Star above it provided you haven't got the filters switched off. Failing that, and providing the nane hasn't been changed, search for Eol Prou RS-T d3-94.

A day? Man, you're hauling ass along Neutron stars then Lehman. I just did the trek, gathered about 35 million in exploration data, took about a thousand pictures, and put my name on god knows how many systems. It was absolutely epic. It also took weeks. Its the journey not the destination for sure, and it's not for everyone. But the Colonia community is a great one. Their discord is filled with wonderful people, all player driven content, and they've put a ton of work in making it something entirely unique. It has been argued, by many more than myself, it's the most interesting aspect to happen in ED, ever.

I'd argue that they are right.

Out of anything in ED, the introduction of Colonia is the most Player influenced event since release- so much so that the Devs are writing in content specifically for them, and giving factions their own settlements? Unheard of.

Depends on your definition of epic and what you're after in Elite. For those interested in immersion and actually making a notable difference in the game where a point of reference can be made,, Colonia's where to be.

Well, I was assuming that the player had a dedicated ship with long legs. Forty or more light years crossed with every jump, and not stopping at all to smell the roses. Of course, the journey can take weeks or even months of you're out to scan every thing in every system.

It's basically like the trip to Saggitarius A*.

The average user is likely to take a few days to get there. But there are those who will take weeks to make the trip, and others who have managed it in mere hours.

If you are inexperienced with long range travel, I recommend setting aside two weeks to complete the journey. (Note: To tell if you are inexperienced, ask yourself if a trip from the Main Bubble to Sothis, and back constitutes 'Long Range' to you or not. If the answer is anything other than "Pfft, that's barely off my doorstep" consider yourself inexperienced.)

True. But even just honking and scooping at 40ly that's over 8 hours straight. No, nothing epic about that at all I couldn't do it, that's for sure. That's some serious boredom.

Id consider myself a pretty experienced pilot to be honest. And I'd never race to SagA, or any other long range destination. The idea (for me) is to enjoy the ride. Lots to see and do along the way.

Did the Beagle Point to Bubble backtrip in four days

Never, never again.

20 kylies a day was horrifying.

Each to their own. I don't mean anything by it at all, positive or negative.

My first trip to Sag A* and back took the best part of two to three weeks. But it was totally worth it. So much so I did it again. Only this time I was intrigued by the fact no one had done the Buckyballers Sag A* Challenge on Xbox. So I went again from Galileo Station in Sol and did it in a time just shy of 14 hours.

I don't consider myself an expert pilot by any means. But that time difference between just two trips ought to demonstrate just how daunting a task it can be to a first timer. Granted, in the Galactic Core, route plotting becomes an instant nightmare whereas, on route to Colonia, those issues are mitigated by having a much less dense collection of systems. But it still requires a certain mindset and determination to complete long trips such as that.

Basically, if you are sightseeing, it will take a much longer time compared to someone doing the Buckyball method of Jump/Scoop/Jump/Scoop etc...

And this is all why I have yet to go beyond 10k outside the bubble...

I know its a little late (and therefore probably pointless), but I always liked to think that the pilot's chair was part of the escape pod, with the rest of the capsule hidden underneath the floor and other systems, kind of like a high-tech airbag. To me it helps explain the near instantaneous ejection with minimal risk of the ship detonating before you can react.

That's exactly how I pictured it too Cartlidge. With a few liberties taken for the sake of gameplay

I've got mad respect for the people out at Colonia. Doubt I'll ever do the trek myself, but you never know. Too much fun in the bubble.

Marra Morgan<snip>

Today, I docked at an outpost, found a fence for 190 tons of illegal battle weapons, unloaded said weapons, reloaded a few dozen rounds of large calibre ammunition and took on 20 tons of fuel... in around 10 seconds!

This is the biggest immersion-breaker for me at the moment, along with no atmospheric landings.

If you want it to take longer, click slower!

Personally, I'd get sick of the delay after a while.  I've already disabled the pre-flight check nonsense for the same reasons, but in my fiction and mental roleplay, more realistic times are involved for everything.
