Elite roleplay: Q&A and OOC

HappyComrieWow, That sucks...

I know the feels. Wanted to join the police or customs (really important in Holland) but can't because of my shit-useless eyes... (I have glasses)

But what do you mean too old? You're never too old unless you're retired, right?

Or unless you want join a military service with an enlistment age of 16 - 36!

It's ok, it doesn't bother me anymore - it was just one of those phases that teens go through, y'know where you want to be a submariner one minute and an astronaut the next

I'm sorry, I've completely derailed this!

Why were you asking about Ramius and Mancuso?
20 Mar 2017, 10:33am
Don't worry about it!

I was asking about it because I thought Ramius and Borodin would make great higher officers for the storyline, and since I'm quite bad at figuring out names by myself I was hoping to just use theirs if nobody's ever heard of them.

But scince people do I won't be able to get away with that...

Hunt for Red October?  Dang.  There's something from my personal pantheon of "Good Things." Loved the movie too - though it's got so many familiar faces in it I call it The Hunt for "That Guy!"

HappyComrieIs anyone here coincidentally familiar with the name Marko Ramius, and / or Bart Mancuso?

My all time favorite Tom Clancy book!

Did anyone ever read Clancy's non-fiction book about submarines?

SSN? Great read, that.

Not yet, I perhaps should. As I just about finished the book with the world's most unrealistic canine behaviour... -.-

The one where they go under the Arctic Ice I think and and go to Antarctica I think Delta something

I myself went through a fierce Tom Clancy phase in my early teens. I lost interest as I got older, though. In my view, they stopped being compelling stories and rather devolved into right-wing "military stuff with long acronyms solves everything" porn.

Not sure it ever wasn't that but on the bright side, Hunt for Red October was one of my earliest sparks of empathy.

I mean, that Soviet just wanted to see Montana.  They can't be all bad, right?

I actually still love that book, and like all of them up to Executive Orders. And yeah, they were all pretty "wave the flag", but seemed to have a lot more character development than the later ones. Jack Ryan Junior and the video game spinoffs never really grabbed my interest. It seemed like Tom Clancy was running out of ideas at that point. That, or too much of his work was being influenced by the video game franchise with his name on it.

IMO, the last good Tom Clancy novel was Bear and the Dragon, which was the book after my favorite (Rainbow Six.)

The one after that was Teeth of the Tiger, which is where the Jack Ryan Jr. stuff starts. Incidentally, that's also where he lost me.

To be fair, naming your character after one in another book shouldn't be an issue. Just don't make your character actually be the namesake. Or alternatively, just switch their first and last names. So you end up with Marko Mancuso and Bart Ramius. Those are still decent names and you keep your little 'Easter Egg'

Also, I like the Tom Clancy Games. There, I contributed....
