I have had a thought on what you may be able to do about the Buckyball run issue Luke3107.

Instead of trying to rationalise a viable reason for the time difference in witchspace, perhaps you could simply break the competition into a series, e.g. series 1 (original mind numbing slow grind to Sag A*), Series 2 (the slightly disrupted grind to Sag A*) and then Series 3 (the optimised grind to Sag A*) or something to that effect. This would certainly kill two eagles with one sidewinder.

Just my thoughts and hope it may help.

As for the skimmer... Haven't you seen?
