Elite roleplay: Q&A and OOC

Apex and I have been in an RP taking place in the docks since the end of August. The conversation so far has probably spanned an hour, maybe 2, tops.

Depends on the parties involved. But there is nothing formal or set in stone.

The situation Bryan and myself are in is already taking place since a few months and hardly 6 hours have passed.

Hell, I stepped into the Bar seven months ago and barely one day passed for me!

Simply put, time does not flow steadily in RP. Rather, it moves with each action the participant(s) take. As you said Cuisinart, "5 day long dinner". It's entirely possible and not uncommon here.

As a rule of thumb, keep specific timescales out of RP. Don't say "5 minutes later" where "Shortly after" will do. It can be confusing to have a short conversation last as long as someone elses entire storyline, but it's a hazard that allows people to take care of RL issues if needed.

The alternative is have people join in, then get abandoned because their timezone means that they are at work when their RP partner is relaxing for dinner. That would exclude a fairly large percentage of RPers unfortunately, or at the very least make certain characters interacting impossible. (For example, I am in Scotland UK and Phisto is in Florida US. The timezones would prevent us RPing if we had a rule in place just to keep timelines tidy.)

Alright, thanks for the clarification, everyone!

Scenes last as long as they have to - and this is both the strength and weakness of forum-based role-play - you may or may not know when other participants may be on to contribute, and it can sometimes take several days or more for everyone to make their contributions, even when those contributions only span a few minutes. Coordination is key.

I quite agree.

I quite agree.

As in just about any relationship, communication is paramount.

So...plugs plugging plugs plugging plugs....or "if you can't beat them, out-plug them"?
10 Oct 2017, 11:03am
or just unplug their plugs so whatever they have plugged doesn't work?

Well that'd be one heck of an admin job, and I'm a preacher, not a sparkie...

What is the consensus on musical instruments in this galaxy?
12 Oct 2017, 12:33pm
Instruments that involve hitting something or blowing into something have already lasted millenia, so they're unlikely to have gone anywhere.

Roland's D-beams have been around for nearly 20 years and could be seen as a precursor to holo-instruments. Holographic stylophones would be fun!

So it wouldn't be against the grain to say Luke owns a drumkit and a guitar?
12 Oct 2017, 1:49pm
A little creativity to bring them into 3303 wouldn't go amiss.

I'm sure you're familiar with V-drums - take that concept and maybe add some holo tech.

Just try to avoid the "relics from the 21st century" cliches.

Naturally.

Thanks Marra =)
