Elite roleplay: Q&A and OOC

Nah, why should we? They're both sensible adults and have Idris around.
27 Jul 2017, 3:28pm
Adults, yes...

I'm not sure "Sensible" describes Phisto though

Eh, Idris is enough, but Stryker is nearby for added measure if needed.
27 Jul 2017, 5:03pm
Stryker is snuggly though =P

Business with Marra can be quite beneficial and Phisto is professional. What's the worst that could happen?

When he wants to be.

Just a friendly reminder that Banter is In Character. If people are a bit antagonistic, remember that is part of their character and how they are likely to respond in given circumstances.

I get this feeling some of you are taking interactions in there personally.

Edit: Of course that is not an invitation to be complete dicks. Remember to keep the antagonism within the realms of the character and the interaction.

You know, we have an opening at Scheerbart Casino... As a janitor.

Heya guys, just clarifying. I was IC, my only confusion was with regards to the board name. I wasn't taking anything personally - I'm an long-time RPer and enjoy mixing my Elite with some pretendy-fun-time games.

I recently started writing logs (I'm not proud of them, but not really looking for advice, I'll work that out in time) and want them to at least feel in character and in universe, so I need clarification on something...
K-casts, I see them in a lot of logs and some of the rp here... what are they? How do they work? Are they instant or delayed? Is any of this defined in universe (the books, other games) or is it just a kind of community accepted placeholder for something unmentioned elsewhere? I haven't read any of the novels or played any of the other games.

Thanks for answering (or politely ignoring)!

K-Casts are essentially holographic Space Skype. I always picture it as a two-dimensional projection like your in-game info panels, but others might write it as a full "person" in front of you.

In my view, it doesn't matter, since detailed explanations of everyday technology don't typically add to a story. After all, if you were writing in the present day and had a character drive someplace, would you include a meticulous description of the car's gauge cluster or its engine's firing cycle?

Edit: Now that I'm home, this sounds a lot more combative than when I wrote it on my phone, that wasn't my intent, sorry!

I see your point, thanks.  Mostly I just want to be consistent with everyone else, but I could see instances where a time delay would matter.  Off the top of my head I could contrive a scenario where a delay could influence how many pieces a hostage is returned in (or maybe I watch too much TV).
