Elite roleplay: Q&A and OOC

PhelboreK-casts...

... are very much an official aspect of ED lore, since they are mentioned in several of the official novels. They are depicted as (more or less) instant two-way comms, either with or without a holographic image of the correspondents. There's also a recorded messaging facility, rather like Instagram.

How k-cast works is never explained; I imagine there's a system of relays built into starports all over the bubble, with satellite beacons spread out in uninhabited systems as they are visited. But, as Matt says, that really doesn't matter!

Instant, holographic, canon. Excellent answer, thanks!

Attention Hob:

Think of it like an online Pilot's Fed message board or something - it's not called Banter in RP.

Just so you know - pilots won't refer to "Roleplay: Banter" as the banter board in RP. It's just called that for the purposes of identifying what it is for.

Just a friendly FYI and maybe a little nitpicky but eh.

Still working on those details, but stay tuned.

Out of curiosity, would anyone here be interested in a list of 'lore friendly' explanations behind Major Updates?

It's not something I've seen done, although I believe it was touched on a little bit here with things like Passenger Missions being added in, but I've just finished making one to go with a thing I'm writing for the Buckyballers. It mostly focuses on stuff that directly affects the racing, but I'd be happy to extend it if enough interest is shown?

I'm thinking in terms of SLFs being added, alongside the ability to hire a Crew Member to pilot them. Not necessarily things like Thargoids coming, which already has its own explanation.

There is no "lore friendly" explanation for major updates.

Pilots weren't forbidden from carrying passengers until 3303, SLFs have been around for as long as there's been ships capable of carrying them and I doubt ships went crewless before then, people weren't confined to deep space until 3302 when Horizons dropped.

Assume that most of the things contained with updates were always a thing, aside from tidbits like the FDL being given a buff which was explained by lore. Otherwise you risk crap like "The plots fed finally lets us land on planets, woopee!" type stuff.

I'd like to see what you write, but I have to agree with Simon.  I'd generally treat it as "I finally got around to" as opposed to "We finally figured out how to".

What Simon said.

I swear, when Atmo Landings become a thing, if I see "The pilots fed finally lets us land on Atmospheric Worlds," I will commence orbital bombardment on their home world.

I've already seen "When the Pilots Federation finally allows us to land on atmospheric planets"... does that count?

Nuke their homeworld.

That seems like a perfectly rational and well thought out response. *backs away slowly*
