Thanks for the guidance and feedback. Glad you like the bio but now I see comments about Intercepted Transmissions being frowned upon. So now I'm feelin' a bit foolish and intimidated. I may just stick to lurking for a bit until I learn more.

Don't worry, that stuff wasn't directed at you or anything you were doing. Your bio had the style of an intercepted transmission. You weren't using it to metagame. To avoid that kind of thing, just make sure to keep in mind what your character should know, and what they shouldn't.

Got it, thanks. My wires got crossed between RP in the discussion boards and my logbooks. I was just confused is all and appreciate the support. Thanks.

Having trouble understanding where the bar and docks are supposed to be in the galaxy tho. Gotta think of how my characters would fit in here. Tryin to think but nothin happens

You just had some...unfortunate timing with regards to this disagreement. As a fellow RP noob, welcome to the RP forums! If you go back a page, you should see some suggestions given to me by Giari, Luke, and Jemine after my intro post- all good suggestions.

I checked out your bio. I like it- it's an interesting format, and still leaves enough to the imagination that you can do some interesting stuff with it. The weird symbols are a little jarring, but I guess they're supposed to be decryption errors? Either way, it's good. Try starting out by posting something in the bar/docks, leaving a little hook for someone like Jemine demonstrates.

If your not making mistakes, your not trying. Most of us offer a lot of grace and will point out things that don't work. If your willing to listen, and learn, RP can be quite a bit of fun.

In the case of intercepted transmissions, reverse the setting. How would you the player feel, if a character stepped in and claimed to know information via "intercepted transmissions?" I can tell you, I would be quite annoyed. If your not sure, shoot a pm to the party you are RPing with and ask if they are okay with it. There is no harm in asking.


Thanks but I just realized I misunderstood the context of the intercepted transmissions feedback. Mine was in my logbook and I'd never do that in RP.

Definitely willing to listen and learn. Any feedback on RP or my logs is very much welcomed.

The bar and the docks and all the rest are considered part of Citi Gateway in the Inara system (real in game place, btw! Took me way to long to realize that ).

There have been other in game events I will be putting on the logbook soon re moral dilemma. Its something that began near the start with Estae, seeing the Feds dealing in slaves and other issues. I dont mind if he gets smashed up and leaves the pegasi bitter and broken. I guess in game events will drive that.

The logbook was really just to keep track and give meaning to my characters in game path. It makes the game grind that bit more acceptable. Apologies for the sloppy writing - i bring absolutely no rigour to it and its not comparable to others who put real effort in which shines through.

Finally the banter - i have always been conscious to only engage those who engaged with my characters material, and not impose it on them if they break it off. Yes the character is full on. Such is idealism. He takes it as well as giving it.

It really is just a bit of fun and baiting from my side - its not mandatory for anyone to respond and i certainly dont take any of the responses personally.

I suggest reading and posting while drunk may not result in the most edifying posts - the one i was referring to has since been removed

Irrespective I will tone it down to avoid offending sensibilities any more than already. And I apologise for any unintentional hurt and breaches of yr conventions. I am not a serious RPer and its not something i am doing beyond this little episode related to elite - and you can blame BO for dragging me into it.

Obviously if in the meantime i get shot down by someone and they post the vid my character will fight his corner

I will also say, that I've noticed your character evolving and changing. Your logs are improving and your story is showing more depth and I love it.

Keep on stretching, learning, and trying it's been a lot fun to watch the character develope. As Matt said, he's starting to fit into the lore established out in the Pegasi region.

I'm a little confused about the RP here. Someone recently posted that the RP here is separate from the stories we post in our logs? and separate from the actual gameplay? True?

I've been thinking of ways I can incorporate the characters in my stories into the RP here. But it sounds like that's not kosher?

Best I can explain it is like this:

Logbooks are usually stories outside of the RP forums and often contain knowledge that would not be privy to characters in the RP forums.

RP forums are the RP forums. Stuff happens in there and we try to have a good time.

Gameplay itself... lot of folks approach that differently. For some, RP and logbooks follow their in-game actions very closely while some are simply inspired by their in-game actions while other ignore it completely and do whatever.

It's a bit of both, depending on your own view. I've posted RP in the bar which I've then converted into a log story,with the agreement of the other participants ofc.

Some consider the RP rooms to be outside of their personal head canon, while for others it's all in. It really comes down to what suits you best. If in doubt, ask whoever you're RPing with.

It can be separate, but doesn't necessarily have to. Luke, for example, is one of the roleplayers here who takes direct inspiration from his roleplay for his logs. I myself have taken several in-game events and written about it. (the loss of my character's eye, for example).

If anything, this statement may be talking about other people's logs, not your own. Meaning you may have read someone's logs, but that doesn't equate to your character's knowledge of that person's private affairs.

As long as it follows the roleplay etiquette, there is nothing stopping you from bringing your characters into RP. I personally have brought my mentally unstable cyborg co-pilot to Ingabar a number of times now, and it has lead to some fun moments.
