How does 'Illeana' grab you. Seems as good a name as any to me.

Illeana Grimm-Turner

Luke3107Oh wow. This could be interesting. Someone hide the link from the IWG so illiterate fools like me stand a chance!!

Honestly speaking, considering some of the talented writers we have here, I'm too intimidated to go anywhere near that. Excited to see how it turn out though.

Oh don't be like that you two! If you avoid trying things just because someone might be better at it than you, you'll never do ANYTHING!!! I think I might enter it myself with something, you never know!

Crikey, fair enough Illeana. I think I'll do it then! Like you said, you never know =D

*Clicks his mechanical claw*

You will if I tell you too...

Do you tell me to?

Sure sure but where's the fun in that?

AWOL - Banter is for in-character dialogue. Why would Phisto know anything about a 21st Century television show?

So you're saying I can't discuss the plot twists of Season 7 there??

Shuts off data-slate

Well ain't that a waste...

So, how does the Banter board work exactly?

If I'm reading it correctly, it's basically a sort of, Instant Messenger but for our CMDRs instead of us.

Yes

Exactly that.

Oh good. I might pop in soon then. Anything else I should know before doing so?

Also, I began writing a Thingtm, what's the rules regarding things like language? I noticed Marra uses what I Googled to be Welsh in hers. Apollonia has some French in there now and then. I would have thought those would be dead languages by then, or are we waving that aside?

Also relating to language... Swearing? Completely abolished or Free for All? From what I've read, it's certainly not the former, but some people don't do it at all, or very rarely at least. I get the impression there's an unwritten rule regarding it since I can't see anything in 'Rules and Etiquette'...

Anyways, I hope my story entices you all as much as my backstory appears to have done.

Thanks in advance CMDRs o7 x

That's less a rule than how you want your character to be viewed. If your character swears a lot, she might be taken less seriously and be less talked to. So, there's no general rule forbidding swearing.

For an inexperienced writer, expletives can swiftly become a crutch. There are certainly situations where they're appropriate, but I've also seen certain artists (Oliver Stone comes to mind) seem to use them for shock value and little else.

In regards to language, it's established canon that old-Earth languages survived into the 34th century (as I gleaned from reading Drew Wagar's Reclamation). English as your primary written language is recommended, but the occasional foreign turn of phrase can work very well to bring a character to life!

Oh cool! I haven't fully established a 'nationality' for Illeana yet. Is it too late to do so now?

I mean, the ship has a Greek name. But I was going to just wave that aside, now I can actually have a great excuse to use it.
08 Nov 2017, 10:46pm
No, I don't think so. What's your ship name mean?
08 Nov 2017, 10:53pm
Elefthería, or more accurately - Ελευθερία

It's the literal pronounciation for the Greek word meaning 'Freedom'

I know it's a bit clumsy, but I felt it better than trying to find a way to use the actual Greek alphabet in game. Especially since people might not know how the letters are pronounced.

Good ship name. Got a story behind it?
