CrimsonShadowIf I remember correctly from some of the lore books, the pop music in 3303 is autotuned vocals and synth music, with techno, edm, dubstep, and the metal genres as the secondaries. Anything acoustic or nautrally vocal is largely counterculture, favoring more insturmental. (This may differ author to author)
Hmm, today I learned it'll take 1300 years for my music tastes to become mainstream.

As far as actual music tastes go, I've permitted myself this one cliche in that Luke prefers the 20-21st Century stuff. The two reasons were simply I listen to that stuff while playing the game, so it seemed fitting since my RP and logbooks often reflect in game actions I take, and that I had no idea what to do in regards to music of the 34th century anyway.
Odds are I've probably got several cliches in my character design, but this one was deliberate =P

To expand on my statement when I say autotuned/synthetic this also includes having AI singers as well (think like Hatsune Miku(sp) or vocaloids for the anime fans). Having completely holographic tribute band's and androids that sing, some lore books mention androids being a thing but I don't remember how advanced they are (on a scale from Data to Ghost in the Shell).

You have my apologies. Apparently, some guy from Idaho was left in charge of the copy-pasta from Google Docs to MS Word, and he foolishly chose some pretty ungodly hours to perform the process. But the story now makes a lot more sense, in terms of the logical progression.
The person in question has been warned.

In Gavin Deas' ED novel Wanted, a character is wearing a Jjagged Bbanner shirt.
An F:FE site describes them as "flash-rock".
Throughout these mentions, there appears to be references to some kind of "DREAM" format which the band use as their medium. Not sure exactly what this is, but to me it implies some kind of multi-sensory experience, which is the kind of sci-fi twist I was hoping for when it comes to how music is portrayed in Elite!
