Well, according what I was told it's actually...

Oh, come on guys! If you want to travel in style and want your personal carrier than there's not much other than the dolphin, no?
It's like a Bugatti or maybe a Jaguar. It has style, it is fast and it is luxurious.

Sadly enough, it's way too cheap. So everyone can have one.

When I fly from the bubble to Sag-A* for the Extra Life gaming marathon this year, I plan to do it in an Exploraconda. Not the flashiest of ships, but tough and with that long jump range.

Here is a nice little comparison sheet on which ship jumps how far...

I'm rather partial to my lil 'Broomstick' of a Cobra Mk III, if for nothing else, its iconic design & shape.

Most assuredly, I'll be getting other ships. My Cobra will always have a place in my 'fleet' & my heart. We've been through a lot together & more is yet to come.

Jason, a somewhat technical question: What's the reasoning behind the use of a foam for a fire within an electrical panel? Is there any lore on this? It seems impractical to use something which render the ship useless until the foam can be cleaned out, though I realise it's convenient for the plot.

I think it's more the need to be able to put out a fire as quickly as possible on a starship (or anything artificial containing an equally artificial atmosphere) as fires can consume oxygen very quickly... and you don't want to be stuck on a ship without oxygen.

While it is true that a fire supression system in server rooms or for other fragile electrical systems are usually using halon it is not an option inside a spaceship as that stuff results in highly toxic sideproducts when exposed to high temperatures. And you don't want to kill the ship's CMDR just to supress a fire now, do you?

Looking at some safety for halon, the concentrations used in fire distinguishing systems seems to have no effect on human health at short exposures. There's also different gasses (such as carbon dioxide) which could be used to remove oxygen. On the topic of carbon dioxide, that's something that the spaceship have to be able to remove regardless, as we produce it as a byproduct of breathing.

Considering that we travel in a space suit with an automatic visor, it shouldn't provide a technical problem to use gas systems which would ordinarily disable a human either, as the atmosphere could be vented or cleaned. Presumably in 3306 we might also have something better than Halon (though halon works well to prevent the reaction that produces fire).

I think it seems as deadly, if not more, to use a suppressant which disable the ship controls.

Maybe the foam is designed to still be good in zero g, adhering to the applied surface, rather than floating off, and thus preventing the fire from restarting...

Just spitballing here..

Note that I was referring to Halon 1301. And gasses doesn't need to adhere, they won't make a mess!
