Elite roleplay: Q&A and OOC

I may not be a writer myself, but I know how a comic artist named Stjepan Šejić, an artist who works as a freelancer for DC and Marvel from time to time, resolved his: He started to draw BDSM related smut. Over time those pictures he drew of two women started to form up into a rough storyline. Now he's working on the 7th chapter of his very own IP "Sunstone", a romantic graphic novel. You can read it for free on deviantArt (His accountname there is "shiniez" ), but it's so good of a story that I bought all 6 completed chapters so far once they were available as print. They are so good, they all managed to lead Amazon's charts in that category.

Is there a good place to read up on lore, people, places, etc?

There's a lot of stuff in your ship's codex, you find it on your right-hand display. Then there's the Elite Dangerous wiki, but it's fanmade, so there might be some outdated info on there.

I'll study up on that more. I wouldn't mind taking a stab at writing here.

I generally read a friend's writings. Sometimes a good comic sets the tone I'm looking for.

But in all honesty... I just can't find the will to write anymore. Hell, I can't even find it to continue the RP on one of my favourite discords, and I really want to be a positive part of things. But maybe that's the problem? Maybe I don't find that I can be a positive part in things, or that I don't fit really well.

Meh, it'll come back sometime. Maybe the quarantine got me loopy.

Well you know what they say, sometimes we need to face our demons.

Conveniently, Doom Eternal exists.

LordPsymonOkay question...

How the hell do you people kill writer's block? Especially you, Matt.

I've been dealing with it for months now and it's actually driving me crazy. I have ideas but I can't seem to get them down.

I will give you a few of my favourite tips.

1. Write and don't stop. Aim for three pages. Do this for a week. If possible write with pen and paper. Even if it means writing "I don't know what to write any more" I see this as clearing the pipes of gunk, so to speak. I find by day seven I am writing again...

2. Remove distractions from your writing. If you want to write, write, but don't have your playstation on at the same time.

3. Find prompts that work for you - By prompt I mean a starting point or a finishing point for what you want to write. Work towards that prompt or away from that prompt. You will see the Journal Entries for my CMDR start with a prompt - Sure he is a bit artsy, but these are also my prompts to start his dialogue with himself.

4. Try something different - There are a multitude of ways to write - fiction, non fiction, poetry, etc... Try writing a users manual - and lookout for things that get you writing - I like word association bubbles, lists, drawing a picture of what I want to write, having a dialogue with an imaginary character about the writing. That part is really up to what you like and what you do. Write one short scene from many different points of view - this is one of my favourites to get depth of character/scene.

The last few years I have changed how I write so that I compose ditties on my phone which save to cloud and then work on the files at set times at a laptop/desktop. It means for me when I sit down I have plenty of material to work through, it also means I don't loose lots of little ideas I have in journals. The only down side I am not writing with paper/pencil. I truly feel this kind of writing has the strongest connection me - and was surprised when someone told me the same thing recently about their process.

If you wanna go the full hog checkout a book/training system called "The artists way" I did that approx 20 years ago and still use a lot of the process these days - its a 12 week course you do on your own for the cost of a book - its for all kinds of art but I used it primary to extend on my writing

Good luck and hope to see your writing soon

Have I told you lately that I love you?

No homo.

Now to kill demons...

I just started my Nightmare run. Wish me luck.

Goodness... I seem to have missed quite a bit in my unintentional hiatus.

I'll just say that depression & anxiety are not fun flatmates. The only way to write is to write, however, so I'm carving out the time.

Glad to see everyone's been so active! o7

I'm one of those mad people who likes to collect everything if possible. So I'm doing that in my first save before I start up on Nightmare.

Not looking forward to Marauder encounters...

For me, I always figure out ahead of time how I want a story to end, which gives me something to work toward. Then it's a matter of mapping out how you want everything to unfold, though I tend to keep this part of the process a bit vague because the details will change.

Knowing what you're driving at is probably the best way to stave off writer's block!

Two questions here: How does one add a picture to Inara?

What is the best way to get started in the roleplay sections?

1. Go to Gallery, or add screenshots to your own collection; afaik, they currently appear in Gallery automatically.

2. Looks like you've already gotten off to a good start, IMO.

Each section has a general info & guidelines available at the top.

Yes I meant, how does one get a profile photo to show up next to their posts, like everyone else here in the discussion section?

You can do that under "Settings" -> "Account Settings"
